00:00A senior finance officer has warned bankruptcy would be catastrophic for Wirral Council if
00:07councillors fail to approve a budget. At a meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee,
00:12Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrats and Reform members backed proposals for the next
00:16financial year. A final vote is due on 2 March. If rejected, the council would have to issue a
00:23Section 114 notice halting non-essential spending. This means services such as school
00:29crossing patrols, some investments in parks and some leisure services could be cut back
00:34under that scenario. The Green Party has called the budget cruel. Other parties say no alternative
00:41plan has been formally presented.
