Alan Jones-Bratt, aged 81, is to walk fifty miles for charity.
Transcript
00:00My name is Alan Jones-Bratt. I'm about to commence a series of Walk in the Park challenges
00:08in memory of my late wife, Mary, who passed away last year.
00:12I decided, instead of feeling sorry for myself, to do something positive and constructive.
00:18So I organised these five walks in the park.
00:22Each walk comprises of a 10-mile walk in Great Windsor Park in Windsor, Hyde Park in London, Sutton Park in Sutton-Caulfield,
00:37Dartmouth Park in West Bromwich where I had my misspent teenage years,
00:41and the final walk in Cannock Chase on Saturday 17th.
00:45All in five successive days of walking, 10 miles in each park, making a total of 50 miles altogether.
00:52I'm 81 years old, I have visual impairment, and I've also got an artificial hip and a metal plate in my left ankle.
01:05So it's not easy, but as long as I don't put one foot in front of the other, why not try something different?
01:12It's easy to feel sorry for yourself and feel that you're an old man.
01:16I am an old man, but I don't feel sorry for myself.
01:19And maybe it will influence other people to do something similar.
01:23And I hope that at the end of the day we're raising a lot of money,
01:30because my wife was an asthma sufferer for over 50 years, but she died of a pulmonary embolism,
01:36blood clot on the lungs, so the charities I'm doing this for are Asthma Relief and Thrombosis UK.
01:45Anyone caring to make a donation, gratefully received,
01:50you can do it on justgiving.com forward slash crowdfunding forward slash a walk in the park 2024.
