00:00I'm not a big fan of trucker hats.
00:02That's super annoying.
00:03Why are they in?
00:05Hi, I'm Josh Hartnett,
00:06and today I'm gonna let Elle ask me anything.
00:11Okay.
00:12What's your most embarrassing on-set moment?
00:14Oh God, I've had so many.
00:15One of my most embarrassing
00:17is the parachute scene from Pearl Harbor
00:21with Kate Beckinsale,
00:22where we are making love in the parachutes for some reason.
00:27She decided to bring her young one-year-old daughter
00:31and her boyfriend to set for the first time that day.
00:35I felt terrible the whole day.
00:37That was super embarrassing.
00:39Thanks, Kate.
00:41What's the last concert you went to?
00:43I went to Taylor Swift last Sunday
00:45with my eight-year-old and my almost seven-year-old
00:48and my wife, and it was surprisingly exciting.
00:52I was definitely not prepared for the Taylor Swift experience.
00:55We were in Wembley Stadium in London.
00:57There were 90,000 people.
00:59It was huge.
01:01And everybody knew the lyrics.
01:03It was crazy.
01:04Did you get any bracelets at the concert?
01:07I didn't get any bracelets myself.
01:08My kids got a lot of bracelets.
01:10Nobody approached me to give me bracelets.
01:12What's wrong with me?
01:14Have you ever stolen anything from set?
01:16It's not stealing
01:17if you're the one that created the character, right?
01:21I think I still have Tripp Fontaine's wig.
01:23I think I've got some of the BIC pens
01:25that were filled with scat from the faculty.
01:27I think I have the glasses
01:28that my character incongruously wore suddenly in the lab.
01:32Little things that maybe the art department wouldn't miss.
01:36Okay.
01:37Which of your past roles do you get asked about the most?
01:39People come up to me and talk to me
01:41about Tripp Fontaine and virgin suicides all the time.
01:44People come up and talk to me
01:45about Unlucky Number Slevin all the time.
01:47I think those are the two
01:48that people always want to talk about.
01:50Maybe it's because they're sort of more niche
01:54and people feel like they've come to it themselves
01:56as opposed to a bigger movie,
01:58but people love those characters.
02:00What is the best career advice you've received?
02:02I think it was George Clooney who said it
02:04to either someone who I know
02:07or someone who I know
02:09who knows someone who knows George Clooney.
02:11You're never as good as they say you are
02:13and you're never as bad as they say you are.
02:14And by the way, he might not have said it.
02:17It's probably just a rumor, but I like that advice.
02:20Which of your past co-stars were you most starstruck to meet?
02:23Probably Harrison Ford.
02:25I was born in 1978, prime Star Wars fanatic age.
02:30And then there was Indiana Jones.
02:31It was just like a one-two punch.
02:33I couldn't get away from the guy when I was a kid.
02:35And then I got to work with him and he drove me crazy
02:40and I drove him crazy.
02:41And I think we loved each other by the end.
02:43But yeah, I was very starstruck by Harrison.
02:47Do you remember the first time that you met?
02:48Yeah, I remember.
02:50Yeah, we met in a deli.
02:51He wanted to go get lunch.
02:53I ordered a bagel with salmon and cream cheese or something
02:58and stood there shaking,
03:00sort of like not being able to eat it.
03:02And we talked about our characters and about the film.
03:04And yeah.
03:07Describe your style in three words.
03:11Easy, available, comfortable.
03:15Name a 90s trend that needs to make a comeback.
03:17The Macarena?
03:24Not a big fan of trucker hats.
03:27It's super annoying.
03:28Why are they in?
03:30It's misrepresentation, you know?
03:32You're not a trucker.
03:33It's confusing.
03:35I consider this a fly-fishing hat.
03:36Oh shit, are you wearing it?
03:41I'm so sorry.
03:42I call it a fly-fishing hat.
03:46Oh, I'm so sorry.
03:48Ted Ford, good buddy.
03:52What's your favorite red carpet look?
03:54I don't know.
03:55Shorts and a t-shirt and a trucker hat.
04:00What's the best gift you've ever received from a co-star?
04:02So I've received some really good gifts over the years.
04:05But recently on Fight or Flight, one of my co-stars,
04:08Danny, gave me a signed copy of the script,
04:12Eight and a Half, signed by Federico Fellini.
04:15And it's my favorite film.
04:16And that was just insane.
04:18For this film, my lovely co-star, Ari,
04:21who plays my daughter,
04:22for some reason she didn't have earphones
04:24because her parents, like she's making this money
04:26from the film, but they wouldn't give it to her.
04:28So she didn't have earbuds and she really wanted earbuds.
04:30They were like, don't get them for her.
04:31At some point she'll do enough chores to get them.
04:34And I was like, that's just mean.
04:35So I gave her some earbuds and some other things
04:37and she was just over the moon.
04:39And I was like, kid, you're making movies now.
04:40Like you have to have some earbuds or something.
04:43And she gave me a very nice card
04:45that said that I looked like a ferret, I think.
04:49What's been your wildest fan encounter?
04:50I've had a few stalkers.
04:52That's pretty wild.
04:54Not fun.
04:55Hope not to repeat that.
04:56So I'm gonna try to be less charming.
04:58What's the craziest thing you've done to prepare for a role?
05:00I did this movie called Black Dahlia.
05:03I'm supposed to box in one scene in the film.
05:05So I started training.
05:07The movie got pushed back.
05:08I liked the training.
05:09I kept training.
05:10The movie got canceled.
05:12I kept training.
05:13New director came on.
05:15I kept training.
05:16I trained for about two years
05:18and loved it for one scene in a movie in which I get beat.
05:24Yeah.
05:25What's my nightly skincare routine?
05:27I used to wash my face with water.
05:29I kind of gave up on that.
05:31My wife said that I needed to start using moisturizer.
05:34So I do that once in a while.
05:38You're welcome.
05:40Name a current music artist you can't stop listening to.
05:43This band that I've been listening to
05:44that we keep putting on is like an unnameable band.
05:47They have, like, the weirdest name.
05:50Shit. How do I?
05:52Crumbin.
05:53Yeah.
05:54How do you say it?
05:55Crumbin.
05:56That's not a very exotic-sounding name.
05:59Like, the music is much more exotic.
06:01And I know that everybody plays it all the time now.
06:03It's a little bit, like, kind of cliche,
06:05but I'm going to say it anyway.
06:07Crumbin, I think, is probably the band
06:09that I've been playing most.
06:11What's the last show you binge-watched?
06:13I binge-watched The Bear recently.
06:15And I just was in The Bear today.
06:17So that's weird.
06:19Do you think you can tackle The Kitchen now?
06:22After watching the show?
06:23That's all you need, apparently.
06:26You watch that show and you're a chef, right?
06:30What do you have in common with your trap character?
06:32Cooper and I don't have a lot in common, thank God.
06:36But I was able to sort of get into the psychology of him
06:39and realize that, like, I know some Coopers.
06:42They don't necessarily kill people,
06:45but, you know, they're definitely sociopaths.
06:49How do you get into the mindset to play a serial killer?
06:52You read a lot of books,
06:53and you start to expect things to go your way.
06:58And if they don't, well, there's a way of taking care of it,
07:02which most people wouldn't do,
07:04but these guys have no problem with.
07:07What's the best and worst part of being a teen heartthrob?
07:09I wouldn't know.
07:10I'm 45 years old.
07:13That time of my career was a lot of stuff going on.
07:16I was sure that what I wanted to be seen as
07:18was totally different from what people saw me as.
07:21I was probably a little too worried about that.
07:23The worst part about being a teen heartthrob
07:25is, like, being a teen,
07:26because you're still filled with self-doubt.
07:29Best part is probably that that means
07:30that people are interested in watching you in films,
07:32and you get to make films.
07:34Thanks so much for hanging out with me and Elle.
07:36Please go see Trap.
07:37I think it's gonna be wilder than you anticipate,
07:41and we all love Ebonite Shyamalan.
07:43Bye!
07:44Bye!
07:45Bye!
07:46Bye!
07:47Bye!
07:47Bye!
07:48Bye!
07:49Bye!
07:50Bye!
07:51Bye!
07:52Bye!
07:52Bye!
07:53Bye!
07:54Bye!
07:55Bye!
07:56Bye!
07:57Bye!
07:57Bye!
07:58Bye!
