Rescue workers began looking for people trapped under debris early on Wednesday, a day after
00:07
landslides caused havoc in the Wayanad district of India's Kerala state. At least 151 people
00:14
are dead and many still missing.
00:16
We are starting the rescue in 10 minutes. This is the Chaurmala river that you see here.
00:26
On this side is the Mundekai village. Our team is going there now. Yesterday, the injured
00:36
victims were taken out of there. Now, we are working on the collapsed building where some
00:41
victims may be trapped.
00:44
I have come all the way to this part of the jungle. There were about 300-400 houses here.
00:56
There was a school a little ahead. There were more than 300 houses in front of the school.
01:03
There were 300 houses in the other place. Now, we are rescuing those people.
01:09
I don't know how many bodies have been lost.
01:13
Heavy rain in one of India's most attractive tourist destinations collapsed hillsides and
01:18
triggered torrents of mud, water and tumbling boulders on Tuesday in the worst disaster
01:23
in the state since deadly floods in 2018. Most of the 350 families living in the area,
01:30
surrounded by tea and cardamom estates, were caught unaware by the landslides early on
01:35
Tuesday morning.
