00:00Over 10,000 enthusiastic runners participated in the Sunway Rapid KL Good Run 2024, held
00:11in the early morning at Sunway City Kuala Lumpur recently.
00:16Flagging off the run was Subang Jaya Assemblyman Michelle Ng, alongside Sunway's senior management
00:22and representatives from Rapid KL, MBSJ and Subang Jaya District Police.
00:34I mean actually for our line of work this is quite common to wake up this early for
00:38something like this, but more importantly so because today we are gathering together
00:43about 10,000 people, over 10,000 people from around the world actually, which is very encouraging,
00:50not just for a run, but for a good cause and also raise awareness about a lot of things
00:55that are close and dear to our hearts, from health to public transport, and I made to
01:01understand that the proceeds of everything that is collected today will also be given
01:05to five selected NGOs, which adds more meaning to the entire event, on top of the entire
01:11cost being absorbed by Sunway.
01:13So when something so noble comes together, it's only right that we too lend our support.
01:18She noted that what differentiated this from other runs is that it took place on Southeast
01:22Asia's first specially designed elevated bus rapid transit lanes.
01:28Sunway Group Chief Brand Strategy Officer Nik Tasha Nik Kamarudin says the run is yet
01:32another initiative of Sunway's year-long 50th anniversary celebration.
01:37The story of Sunway, as most of you know, it starts off by our founder and chairman
01:42Tan Sri Sir Jeffrey Cha looking at building something out of nothing, which is from wasteland
01:47to a wonderland that you see in Sunway City.
01:49So the story has to continue in terms of the legacy, in terms of the importance within
01:53our community.
01:55I think it's every Sunway person, including myself, feel proud that we want to do more
02:01for the community and this is just one part of it.
02:03More than RM430,000 has been raised and all proceeds generated from the event will go
02:09towards supporting five charitable organisations for a good cause.
02:13Mock checks were presented to the five beneficiaries, namely UNICEF, Generating Opportunities for
02:19the Learning Disabled, National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Women of Will and Rumah Perlindungan
02:24Darul-Ukhwa.
02:25UNICEF in Malaysia is fully funded by private sector contributions both from partners like
02:31Sunway as well as individual people like you guys that donate on a regular basis and without
02:38the contribution of Sunway and other partners, we couldn't do the vital work we do for children
02:43in Malaysia and in other countries in the world, so definitely very important.
02:48The run was divided into three categories, namely the competitive 21.1km half marathon
02:54and the 10km race, as well as a 5km fun run.
02:59It was okay, it's my second 21st KM and I think I did well.
03:03I got a PB which I'm very happy about.
03:05I didn't train for a week and I got into the half marathon, it was a bit painful, but
03:11it was okay, I got a PB of 1 hour and 50 minutes for the 21km category.
03:16I feel like a lot of people participated in this event, so I'm looking forward to the
03:21whole process of running, the awards after the end, and some of the prizes.
