Transcript
00:00Seeking to make their presence known, these Venezuelan nationals say they want to express
00:11what's in their hearts, as they call for political change in their country of origin.
00:17Among them, activist Yesenia Gonzalez.
00:20She voted at a Venezuelan embassy on Sunday.
00:22I always vote here for the past 30-something years.
00:26I vote here, and fortunately, we always vote for the opposition and we always win here.
00:33Only Venezuelans who are registered at the embassy and have residency can vote.
00:38Not all the opposition supporters among the gathering were eligible.
00:42From her standpoint, a win for the opposition leader Maria Corina Machado and her coalition's
00:47candidate Edmundo Gonzalez is a win for her country.
00:52She says democracy is desperately needed.
00:55For Gonzalez, it means justice, prosperity, and the rights of citizens, all of which,
01:00she says, the country lacks at this time.
01:03Because they take away all the rights, millions of people left because of the fear of their
01:09life and because of persecution and because the right to say, to express yourself.
01:18And basically, you know, we are here for that change.
01:21Living in TNT for the past 40 years, Gonzalez has made a home here, but she says her spirit
01:27does yearn for Venezuela.
01:29For other Venezuelans like Camila Rodriguez, the hands of time have not spun enough to
01:35relieve the void of leaving their relatives behind.
01:38Rodriguez has only been in TNT for seven months, and she's grateful to this country for opening
01:44its doors, but the longing for home is ever-present.
01:47But she knows that eventually, freedom will be back in Venezuela, where I will reunite
02:02again with all my family.
02:05Within the group, a prayer for a peaceful transition, if there is to be one.
02:10And above all, a prayer for protection.
02:34Polls at the embassy were expected to be closed at 6pm, following which the votes were
02:39to be counted.
