00:00Speaking with TV6 News and The Express, at the Kiddy's Carnival event in his constituency of Tunapuna on Carnival Sunday,
00:08Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander did not mince his words about what the punishment should be for those convicted of
00:15murders as he fielded a question about the double murder that occurred in Coover on Friday.
00:24Unacceptable, ungodly, and I often say this, people who behave like that, the consequences must be quite the same, you
00:33know. That's who I am, you know. That's who I am. I can't move aside from this.
00:37Devon Toussaint and Amelia Hernandez were shot and killed at a play park on Friday afternoon. The Express is reporting
00:45that Mr. Toussaint was holding his three-year-old child when he was shot four times by a gunman, closed
00:52-circuit television footage showed.
00:54The Homeland Security Minister had a direct message for whoever the killer is.
00:59When you behave like that, it means that you have no respect for human life. No respect at all. You
01:08don't care about the children playing in the park. So your effort is to stop the children from playing in
01:13the park, to become like you. Then you should be removed from society by any lawful means necessary.
01:20The Express posed a question about the death penalty, which was last carried out in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999.
01:27We have no problem executing what is still in the books of Trinidad and Tobago. It is still in the
01:34law books. But it seems like government come, government go, they are afraid.
01:38The challenge in resuming hangings in Trinidad and Tobago centers around a Privy Council ruling in 1994.
01:45There are some things that need to be done before. This process needs to be, you need to speed up
01:51this process.
01:53Because a man cannot be killing persons willy-nilly all over the place.
01:57And it's okay. So then he goes, he goes into this nation prisons for the next 15, 20 years and
02:03we, we, taxpayers have to pay that, taxpayers have to pay that.
02:05He want, he want, um, um, chateau pie and, and, and, and chicken, upside down chicken and all, all kind
02:11of thing.
02:12In May of last year, the Prime Minister said of the inmates on death row, only 18 are eligible to
02:18be hanged.
