We're gonna get real corny.
00:01
Is there a corny joke to start with?
00:04
F***.
00:06
Save that one for the chickens.
00:08
Today I'm bringing you three viral corn recipes.
00:12
These are the recipes that are all over TikTok
00:15
that have highlighted the sweet, juicy summer corn.
00:19
Some of them just include canned corn.
00:21
So these are gonna be easy and just a whole new way
00:24
to enjoy the flavor of corn.
00:26
Starting with the viral Wingstop fried Cajun corn.
00:31
I, for one, have never had Wingstop,
00:33
but I've been able to taste it through that phone screen
00:37
as I watch these viral videos
00:38
and my mouth just waters every time.
00:40
What I love is that it's just like
00:42
little manageable corn cob pieces.
00:45
They're crispy fried and then they're coated
00:47
in this really seasoned butter mixture.
00:51
So you just start by cutting your corn on the cob
00:53
into just two inch thick pieces.
00:57
And then they deep fry it.
00:59
I'm going to air fry this because it still gets crispy
01:02
and I think you need another use for your air fryer.
01:05
This ends up looking just so flavorful.
01:08
I just feel like I have corn all over my face.
01:11
I do, I can see it.
01:14
This is that corn that you wanna eat
01:15
on the side of like your boiled shrimp or your chicken wings
01:19
because I hear that Wingstop isn't necessarily known
01:22
for their wings as much as they're known
01:24
for this or their ranch.
01:28
So at this point, this, per their recipe,
01:30
just goes straight into oil to fry.
01:33
I'm gonna coat it in butter and oil and air fry it.
01:37
I'm gonna go ahead and add a little salt,
01:39
get some flavor in there while it cooks.
01:43
So I'm gonna air fry this.
01:45
Everyone has an air fryer now, don't they?
01:47
So we're gonna do this one high, so 390, 400
01:50
because you can eat corn raw.
01:52
I'm not trying to overcook this.
01:54
I want it to be kind of crispy on the outside
01:55
but still juicy on the inside.
01:58
So while that cooks,
02:00
we can make the flavorful butter to pour on top.
02:03
So I'm gonna take the rest of the stick of butter
02:05
and melt that down with quarter teaspoon of oregano,
02:10
quarter teaspoon of thyme,
02:12
whole teaspoon of garlic powder and onion powder,
02:16
quarter teaspoon of cayenne.
02:19
I didn't want smoked paprika.
02:22
We gotta go get regular.
02:25
Just plain, plain paprika.
02:28
We're not trying to make barbecue.
02:32
About a teaspoon.
02:34
I'm gonna go in with a little more salt and pep.
02:37
I'm just gonna melt this all together in the microwave.
02:41
When you heat the butter up with all the spices in,
02:43
it has a chance to like really get in there
02:45
and flavor the butter.
02:46
Cause you can smell it.
02:48
Look at that.
02:49
That's flavor.
02:50
All right, let's check the corn.
02:52
Look at that.
02:54
Fried crispy bits.
02:55
I'm not trying to overcook it though.
02:57
Corn can go to overcooked real fast.
03:03
While it's hot, let it soak up all the flavor.
03:09
Gotta have some green confetti in there.
03:12
Oh yeah.
03:13
I'm just gonna platter some up.
03:15
I left this space because you have to put ranch.
03:18
I think the wing ranch is just the classic
03:21
Hidden Valley packet with some buttermilk.
03:23
That's what I did.
03:24
Okay, here's the taste test.
03:26
My first Wingstop corn on the cob.
03:29
Look at that.
03:29
I mean, you can taste that.
03:31
I saw a lot of people eat it like this.
03:33
My gut is to eat it like you would corn on the cob,
03:36
but everyone I saw ate it up and down.
03:39
Decisions.
03:45
Oh my God.
03:46
Did I just get it on my nose?
03:48
That's better than street corn.
03:51
That might be the best corn on the cob I've ever had.
03:54
You hear it?
03:56
Doesn't need the ranch, but let's just taste it anyway.
04:01
I mean, what's not good dipped in ranch?
04:03
But for me, it is all about this corn.
04:05
I can tell you right now,
04:07
I'm 100% invited to the barbecue with this corn.
04:10
Mm-hmm.
04:13
This next one I have been seeing everywhere,
04:15
the Frito corn salad.
04:18
I'm gonna call it salad slash dip
04:20
because last time I made a corn salad,
04:21
everyone ate it as a dip.
04:23
All the videos I've seen have used like the canned
04:26
Fiesta corn.
04:28
This, using fresh corn is actually cheaper
04:30
than buying all the cans of that.
04:32
So we're gonna use this,
04:33
but I'm gonna do the old shuck it from the microwave.
04:36
Make it easier for us.
04:39
I want my corn to still be like really crunchy,
04:40
so I'm not trying to cook it in the microwave,
04:43
but I just wanna cook it long enough
04:44
to remove these husks super simply.
04:48
So you just kind of like cut the ends off.
04:52
And then you just pop it in the microwave
04:53
for like five minutes.
04:55
And then I'm just gonna chop up the other veggies
04:57
that go in it.
04:58
So I think it's pretty loose here.
05:00
You can really do whatever you want,
05:01
whatever kind of flavor combo you want.
05:03
I'm gonna do some bell pepper
05:05
and a little bit of sweet onion.
05:08
A couple jalapenos here.
05:11
So watch this.
05:14
Microwaving the corn in the husk
05:16
just makes the shucking process a whole lot easier.
05:22
Voila.
05:23
It's cone.
05:24
Mm, cone.
05:25
I miss that song.
05:27
All right, then just take the corn directly off the cob.
05:30
Still has a lot of crunch and juice to it.
05:34
All right, everything into the bowl.
05:35
Going in with some mayonnaise and sour cream.
05:38
I'm gonna go a little more mayonnaise than sour cream.
05:40
And then the version I liked used tajin as the seasoning.
05:45
I just think that sounds perfect.
05:47
And a little cilantro.
05:50
This is gonna be so good.
05:51
And then salt and a lot of pepper.
05:54
Let's see how we're doing.
05:58
Hold on, we're not done.
05:59
We're not done.
06:00
Forgot something.
06:02
Shocker.
06:03
Mexican blend cheese.
06:07
Y'all, look at that.
06:09
And for the final touch.
06:13
We crush them up.
06:18
Does that sound good?
06:19
Mm-hmm.
06:22
Now this gets mixed in.
06:25
And you could just eat this with a fork
06:27
as a barbecue side dish.
06:29
Everybody's gonna want this.
06:32
Let me take a bite like that just to see how we're doing.
06:37
That's so dang good.
06:38
It's so crunchy, fresh, and juicy from the corn,
06:41
that little sweet onion, and those bell peppers.
06:44
But then you get that salty crunch
06:45
from the Fritos, of course.
06:47
But then you hear that like tajin
06:49
with a little bit of that tanginess in there.
06:52
I'll take double the Fritos.
06:54
There's Fritos in it.
06:55
And then scoop it with it.
06:57
Mm.
07:02
That's good.
07:03
These are good ones, y'all.
07:05
Let's keep going.
07:07
All right, now this one is the viral
07:10
restaurant-style crispy corn.
07:12
This is like fried corn that is apparently
07:14
still juicy on the inside, crunchy, crispy on the outside.
07:18
Now every recipe I saw used canned corn
07:21
or they cooked fresh corn.
07:23
So since it's already gotta be cooked,
07:25
I'm gonna use the can.
07:27
Whole kernel sweet corn.
07:29
So you wanna drain this corn really well.
07:31
Oh, I need to be heating up some oil.
07:33
Now this is fried, but because it's such a small amount,
07:36
you don't need like a huge pot of oil.
07:39
We're just gonna be able to do a small portion.
07:41
So just grab like a medium saucepan
07:44
and get you some oil in it.
07:45
So you just need enough to submerge the corn in
07:48
and then we're just gonna use like a slotted spoon.
07:50
So we'll get that heating while I get that corn dried off.
07:54
And now to keep it really dry,
07:56
they add in a little bit of cornstarch and salt.
07:59
So the cornstarch is gonna create a dry surface
08:02
on the outside of the corn
08:03
and it's also gonna help it get like really crunchy, crispy.
08:10
Okay, it said all the kernels need to be covered
08:12
with the cornstarch, so I'm doing it like that.
08:15
A little bit of salt.
08:17
Now let's watch the magic happen.
08:18
I'm gonna do this kind of in batches.
08:21
So we're frying this until it's like lightly golden brown.
08:25
This is good, of course,
08:27
eating just like this as a side dish.
08:28
This also sounds super delicious
08:30
to put on like a taco salad or tacos or any kind of salad.
08:40
When it comes out, you're supposed to season it
08:42
with a little bit of salt and pepper, paprika,
08:45
and then like some fresh chilies.
08:46
You can do lime on there.
08:48
Now we're talking.
08:50
Okay, this is what it's all about.
08:52
Listen, crispy corn.
08:55
Is it still juicy inside?
08:56
We'll see.
08:57
With a little bit of some green chilies.
09:00
It's a little kick and a little drizzle of lime.
09:04
So you get already the sweet from the corn,
09:06
but then you get the salty from the salt we put on it
09:09
and then a kick from this
09:10
and then a tangy, bright with the lime.
09:16
Oh my God.
09:18
That's a way to dress up a can of corn right there.
09:20
I think they call it restaurant corn.
09:23
You probably pay a fortune for this in a restaurant,
09:26
but it's just about worth it.
09:28
You could take that like $2 can
09:30
and make it taste like a $10 side.
09:34
Mm, it's like toasted on the outside,
09:36
like the crunch of like a taco shell almost,
09:40
but the inside of the corn is still juicy
09:42
even after frying in the oil for a couple minutes.
09:45
That little kick from the jalapeno in there,
09:48
quite delicious.
09:49
Do it.
09:51
It's another good one.
09:51
It's another good one.
09:53
I don't know which is my favorite.
09:55
I'm telling you right now,
09:56
you've never had corn like this before
09:58
and every one of these recipes was so easy to make.
10:01
I mean, boiled corn is of course easy.
10:04
These are just as easy,
10:05
but with about a million times more flavor.
10:08
I don't know which one's my favorite,
10:09
but I don't think I can ever eat
10:11
plain boiled corn ever again.
10:14
Y'all have to make these.
10:15
Let me know when you do.
10:18
Mm, such a humble vegetable.
10:21
It's filled with endless possibilities.
10:23
Come on, let me show you what you get.
10:26
It's corn.
10:27
A big lump of not the juice.
10:29
Can't imagine a more beautiful thing.
10:31
I didn't get that corny.
