Transcript
00:00A well-known contractor has made an official police report considering allegations of irregularities
00:06in the volume of diesel delivered to him by a subcontractor and diesel supplier.
00:10The contractor alleged as part of the report that his company had been defrauded millions
00:14of dollars in diesel over several years.
00:17The report was made to the fraud squad this week.
00:20The contractor alleges that there was a conspiracy to defraud him by way of deliberately supplying
00:25a shortfall in the quantity of diesel ordered and paid for.
00:29One of the most recent incidents occurred almost two weeks ago and a whistleblower at
00:33the subcontracting diesel company alerted the well-known contractor.
00:38In that instance, the contractor indicated that he had paid for approximately 2,500 gallons
00:43of diesel at a cost of $50,000.
00:46The contractor, who had secured a flow meter that was certified and calibrated, also attached
00:51his meter to the subcontractor's discharging tanker wagon.
00:55However, the completion of the discharge, the reading on the subcontractor's flow meter
00:59was approximately 10% less than the diesel subcontractor's flow meter's reading, which
01:04indicated that a full amount had been delivered.
01:08The following week, the contractor said his company ordered diesel for four consecutive
01:11days and there were further disparities in the readings.
01:15The whistleblower alleged that this practice had been happening for several years at the
01:18subcontracting diesel company.
01:21When they reported to the police, the contractor claimed that the tanker meter of the subcontractor
01:26of diesel was not properly calibrated and misrepresents the quantity of diesel actually
01:31supplied to the detriment of the contractor.
01:33The well-known contractor, who has been a client of the diesel subcontractor for several
01:37years, believe he may have been defrauded of more than $10 million in the last 10 to
01:4115 years.
01:42One of the main diesel and gasoline suppliers who the subcontractor works for in this country
01:47has also been alerted to the situation and is expected to assist police in the investigation
01:52at some stage.
