00:00Labour are in the midst of looking for a new leader much sooner than they could have expected,
00:05after Vaughan Gething announced he would be stepping down after just 118 days after he
00:09was first elected as First Minister.
00:12His tenure was chaotic and brief, but the party and the wider Senedd will be hoping
00:15for additional stability in the next leader, who could be appointed without a leadership
00:20campaign.
00:21Welsh Government veteran Eluned Morgan, who has served as Health Minister, Welsh Language
00:25Minister and Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, looks set to run unopposed for
00:30the leader of the party and therefore for First Minister.
00:34She has run previously, losing out to Mark Drakeford in 2018, and was a name many people
00:38thought would run this year against Jeremy Miles and Vaughan Gething, but took herself
00:42out of the running early doors.
00:44With the chaos that unfolded under Gething's leadership, the party will be hoping for a
00:48far more stable situation this time around, and she has decided to run on a joint unity
00:54bid with Huw Irenca-Davies as her deputy, in an attempt to stabilise the ship.
