00:00The organizers of the Georgetown Festival 2024 have apologized for a teaser video that

00:08received flak for only promoting Indian and Chinese culture.

00:13In a statement, the organizers said they tried their best to ensure inclusive, comprehensive

00:17and balanced representation.

00:20Project owner Georgetown World Heritage Incorporated said it is taking the disappointment expressed

00:25by local communities seriously.

00:28The company has advised the festival contractor, Curzon Media Global Senyuran Berhad, to increase

00:33the promotion of local programming as soon as possible.

00:36Penang PAS Information Chief Fawaz Jan reportedly said the teaser video, titled Here and Now,

00:42seemed to deny the existence of Malay culture in the state.

00:46Penang UMNO Head and Bertam Assemblyman Rizal Merikan Nainah Merikan also said the video's

00:51narrative was not inclusive and did not display the true variety of Georgetown's heritage.
