The big boat is back on Skegness Waterway and we joined Captain Raf for a ride to see the sights.

00:00We're at Skegness Miniport about to go messing about on the river.

00:06Now it's a big week isn't it for Teen Spirit because you've got your big boat back on the

00:11water after Covid.

00:14How's it going so far?

00:15So yeah we've had a great response with 20 people who came on it yesterday and it's exciting

00:20for us to bring the riverboat back and so it's something we haven't done since Covid

00:25but it's a great way to get around Skegness and see some of the sights as well.

00:28All right shall we go and see some of the sights?

00:34Raf you're the captain where are we going today?

00:36I'm taking you for a nice ride, show you the sights, you're great for that moment, hopefully

00:43you enjoy that.

00:44Now beside of us we've got the golf course, that's also Teen Spirits isn't it?

00:58Have you had a lot of work to do on this river to get it ready for a trip because I

01:07know the other side have had it all emptied and cleared out?

01:11Yeah so a lot of work has gone into sort of getting the river and also the boat ready

01:12so the boat's a bit restored because we've been sat in a warehouse for a very long time

01:13but the river we're keeping it all nice and clean.

01:14It's a shame some people do end up putting litter and stuff in it so it's a daily task

01:15to keep it on top of it but it's all prepped and ready to go.

01:34Yeah so come in a few looks at the sides we've got some people sort of side waving let's

01:36give them all a wave.

01:40They have no idea they're going to be on a Skegness standard video but that is good.

01:45So we've got the Pleasure Beach that we're coming up to as well.

02:00The waterway is really pretty it's something that people probably don't realise is actually

02:08here when they come to Skegness because very much in your face are all the amusement arcades

02:16and those kind of attractions.

02:20Keep your head down.

02:24Is this a two-way ride or do you take people to the other end and then they'll probably

02:28pop out and go to Natureland or something and then go back?

02:31That would be like a water taxi, if you're coming one way and somebody is coming, it would be an extra small charge for a two-way ride.

02:40Ah right, OK.

02:43OK so hopefully they're not going to make us walk back.

02:46So I've got to slow down now just in case there's any more boats coming around there

02:53because how many of the smaller boats have you got going along?

02:5818 small boats and for that moment it's one big one.

03:03Hopefully in another two weeks coming another big one.

03:06Wow.

03:08So yeah we're fully prepped so we've got the 18 little boats which people can rent out

03:12and they can drive around sort of the front of the course.

03:15Then we've got this big boat here, we've got another one coming soon.

03:20Which gives me the most comfortable ride around Skegness.

03:23I'm just loving this, I mean it's just lovely going through these tunnels isn't it?

03:35Right, head down.

03:48So how long has this waterway been here do you know?

03:53Testing your history.

03:55The first big boat was 1952.

03:59Wow.

04:01Since then, Covid was close, the big one and we started operating the smaller one.

04:08So Teespring have had this since, I want to say 2018 but don't forget that.

04:14We've had these small boats in operation and had them all the way for the past few years now.

04:22But having a big boat like that is great to bring back into the future.

04:27It's a fun addition to the usual.

04:30So we're now going underneath the pier.

04:34Which is probably a bit quieter than it was last night when England scored.

04:40I know.

04:42On that note actually, I might ask another question for you.

04:45So what did you get out of all this to decide to go down today?

04:49Right, I was going to ask about that because obviously you're part of the aquarium as well.

04:54And on the telly this morning they had something, I think it's not ferrets is it?

05:00It's something, anyway, it's one of those kind of animals.

05:05So can you disclose which fish is...

05:09It's not been chosen yet.

05:10Oh right, okay.

05:12One of the puppets should be there.

05:25So we'll go around this little island and...

05:30Ah, the Premier Inn!

05:48The Premier Inn is some of the places that we're able to head if we're coming from Australia to England.

06:06Yeah, yeah.

06:12If anybody wants to ride, when are you open?

06:15So we're open all throughout the six weeks.

06:17We're planning that we're going to be on the top of every hour, so every hour during the day.

06:22Whether that's here from all the way or just one way of the journey.

06:26And it's at affordable prices, so just head to the front piece we've got here just outside the aquarium.

06:32So top of every hour, we're going to go all the way down, hopefully all the way up to Natureland.

06:38That was a lovely ride, and it didn't even rain, so even better!
