A heatwave has officially arrived in Lincolnshire - we visited Skegness to see how people are keeping cool.

00:00 After a changeable summer, it's officially a heatwave in Lincolnshire

00:05 with five days of late-season sunshine promised. We visited Skegness to see how

00:12 people are keeping cool.

00:15 Hiya, I'm Naomi, I'm the Director of Operations here at Magna Vitae.

00:20 Now it's officially a heatwave but it's come a bit late in the season hasn't it?

00:25 Yeah I mean obviously I think we've had fairly rainy season this year in

00:31 comparison to last year but it's always nice to have a little bit of sunshine

00:34 into September. Normally we'd be closing our swimming pool the first weekend but

00:39 when you've got a national heatwave on the way we'd be fools to put the covers

00:43 on and say goodnight so it's been really nice that we've extended it a little bit

00:46 and as long as the sun keeps shining we'll keep it open.

00:50 It's a bit misty in Skegness at the minute but it is lifting isn't it?

00:56 Yeah it's set to be a really nice day, we had a really nice day yesterday as well.

01:00 The weekend's looking really bright so hopefully we've got a few caravan owners

01:03 that are going to be enjoying that and getting the most out of their stay as

01:07 well. So yeah once this little bit of mist and fog lifts it'll be a glorious

01:10 day. The joy when it's a little bit like this is you get to see just the steam

01:14 coming off the heated outdoor pool and it's glorious I mean what a way to start

01:18 your day. Yeah absolutely, now as well as being a fabulous way of cooling off

01:25 swimming is becoming more than just that isn't it? Yeah I mean for us

01:32 we find that I mean one straight away if you've had any injury or anything like

01:36 that swimming is a great way because there's no impact on your joints and we

01:40 find that for a lot of our local community that's what it's used for as

01:44 well but we've also got the young ones having their swimming lessons. We live

01:46 right on the coast, swimming and having the ability to swim is so important to

01:51 us but as well secondary to probably exercises or should I say firstly against

01:58 exercises the social interaction that the members get here you know we see

02:03 them coming in rain or shine just having that you know weekly chat getting to

02:08 know each other getting to know the team and making friendships that's the

02:11 important thing. Now we've got one of the swimmers coming up to us now what's it

02:18 like in there? It's beautifully warm. Now I understand you're local aren't you?

02:24 Why do you come? Well in the midst of a busy life I look forward to coming

02:32 swimming most days really because it's just such a wonderful facility we have

02:38 here in Sleign Ness. And you know what does it mean to you to have this

02:45 facility? Well first of all in a seaside town to have something like this is just

02:52 great and it's a place to meet other people. I've got a lot of friends that I

02:59 meet at different times here and to swim with friends and with a great staff here

03:05 as well that's what's not to like really. The beach was deserted while the early

03:11 morning mist was rising but kiosk owners were already setting up hoping for a

03:16 late-season rush on ice cream. We're at the Chunky Monkey kiosk on Tower Esplanade.

03:20 Craig we've got a heatwave coming are you hoping you're gonna be selling a few

03:25 more ice creams? Yes we're hoping to sell ice creams slush we do doggy ice cream

03:30 so lots of dog walkers want that as it gets too hot. So what's it been like

03:35 during the summer? Pre-July was really good July was pretty bad it was about

03:42 half of your normal turnover August was flat and now September starting to look

03:47 good. So you're hoping for a few more visitors over the next few days? Yes we

03:51 are yes so far it's been good and hopefully for the rest of the week and

03:54 the weekends that's going to be good as well it's looking nice and hot, dry and

03:59 sunny which people want. Well I can smell the doughnuts warming up already so it's

04:04 all smelling very good so here's hoping lots of people come. Yeah thanks for that.
