00:00I'm here at Buckingham Palace the morning after the night before a general election
00:06in which Labour has won by a landslide. Those national results have also been reflected
00:13right here in the capital too. But the biggest change in London will be the man living at
00:18number 10 Downing Street. On the morning of July the 5th, Rishi Sunak has left and headed
00:24here to visit King Charles before travelling back to Yorkshire. Keir Starmer was triumphant
00:30in his constituency Holborn and St Pancras with the leader of the Labour Party soon to
00:35be moving to Downing Street. He has actually just left Buckingham Palace too after a private
00:42meeting with the King. So there are 75 seats here in London. Labour have won 59 of them
00:48gaining a fair few Tory strongholds including the cities of London and Westminster which
00:53have never been read before. With Chelsea and Fulham and Kensington and Bayswater also
00:59switching to Labour there are now zero Tory seats in inner London. There were also big
01:06wins in South East London after Liam Conlon won Tory held Beckingham and Penge and Hendon
01:12where Labour's David Dachinsky won the North London Borough by just 15 votes. Another big
01:19story here in London is Jeremy Corbyn. Polls originally suggested it might be difficult
01:24for him to win running as an independent against Labour but he has held his seat in Islington
01:30North. Diane Abbott also retained her seat in Hackney North and Stoke Newington despite
01:36recent controversies as well. Now Wimbledon is busy hosting the tennis at the moment but
01:41it was also a big night there for the Liberal Democrats who took the seat of the Conservatives.
01:48The Lib Dems won 6 seats in the capital with all of them coming in South West London. Other
01:53seats included Twickenham and Richmond Park as well. Now despite a heavy loss for the
01:59Conservatives they still won more seats than the Liberal Democrats in the country and that
02:05is the same in London as well. They secured 9 seats here in the capital including Croydon
02:10South, Orpington and Chingford and Woodford Green as well. That was Ian Duncan Smith's
02:16seat. In total then out of 75 seats Labour have secured 59, the Conservatives have won
02:229, the Lib Dems have won 6 and an independent seat by Jeremy Corbyn was the only independent
02:28seat. So what does this election actually mean for London? Well the Mayor Sadiq Khan
02:33has said that this government will bring a sea of calm. He adds that he thinks Keir Starmer
02:38will bring people together. For what he thinks it will do for London the Mayor said that
02:43he wanted a government that won't put obstacles in his way and that the capital should be
02:48a focus point for housing projects claiming that London is in a housing crisis and an
02:53example should be set in the capital. For more on this election head to Londonworld.com.
