00:00Wicked fans, we're getting our hands on the musical adaptation sooner than we expected.
00:10Fans won't have to wait quite as long to see Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba
00:14and Glinda in action in Oz, as Universal Pictures announced that the musical feature will hit
00:18theaters November 22nd.
00:20The film has been moved up from its previously scheduled release on November 27th, the day
00:24before Thanksgiving, with a new date giving the movie more time to build momentum heading
00:28into the holiday weekend.
00:30The new date also allows the John M. Chu feature to avoid Disney's Moana 2.
00:34However, with a November 22nd release, the film will now compete against Paramount's
00:38Gladiator 2, which also hits theaters on November 22nd, and stars Paul Meskel in Ridley Scott's
00:43follow-up to his Oscar-winning 2000 historical epic.
00:46Wicked adapts the Tony-winning Broadway musical of the same name, which is itself based on
00:50author Gregory Maguire's 1995 book Wicked, The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of
00:55the West.
00:56The film stars Erivo and Grande, with Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Jeff
01:01Goldblum, and Bowen Yang rounding out the cast.
01:04The film is the first title in a two-part release, with Wicked Part 2 still scheduled
01:07for November 26th, 2025.
