00:00All right, just a three-game Major League Baseball slate on
00:08this Monday. We start with one of the hottest teams in MLB
00:12right now. The Astros, speaking of those Mets, take two or
00:15three at Citi Field this weekend, including a victory
00:18yesterday in 11 innings in extras 10-5 to win its 42nd
00:24game of the year. Houston now above 500, a winning record
00:28for the first time this season. Last week, they got to 500
00:32for the first time after taking two or three up in Queens
00:36above 500 for the first time. Now, they go up north to
00:40Toronto to take on the Blue Jays, minus 142, the number
00:44in favor of the Stros and Hunter Brown, total at eight
00:47and a half there in Toronto.
00:50Yeah, let's go. Astros again, take the fork out of them
00:53and maybe they're going to be that new special sauce out
00:56there on the West Coast, or should I say, to win the
00:58American League West. Look at Hunter Brown here, struggled
01:01to start the season. But if we just take a look at 60 days,
01:03five and one overall through 10 games started, 57 and a
01:07third innings pitched. How about an ERA of 2.20? I know
01:10most people don't care about that, but that's just the
01:11bench line here, their baseline. XFIP number 3.25,
01:14tremendous. Take a look at his last 30 days. ISO power
01:17numbers, 090 between lefties and righties combined, 241
01:20weighted on base percentage. Strikeout percentage, if you
01:23include the last 121 batters he's faced, that's at 30%.
01:27He's been tremendous. And also, so many times you're trying
01:30to handicap the game with an opener, which is what Yariel
01:32Rodriguez is going to be here for Toronto. I give the
01:35advantage to the Houston Astros playing good baseball
01:37and have the better pitcher on the mound today. They should
01:39be able to pick up the win, even though they're on the
01:41road once again.
01:44Yeah, they certainly are, but that would be 10 of the last
01:4611 if Houston is victorious today in Toronto, booked as
01:51the favored side. A debut today in Major League Baseball
01:55for the Nationals top prospect at home, hosting the New
01:58York Mets. James Wood, and I was half listening, I'll be
02:02honest to what you were saying there, JRS, because I had
02:05to figure out if the native of only Maryland, only Maryland,
02:11not all that far away from DC, is true. He's 6'7", 6'7",
02:17James Wood, the 21-year-old, called up and acquired in
02:20the Juan Soto trade from San Diego two summers ago. Third
02:25rank prospect in the Major League Baseball pipeline, makes
02:29his debut today against the New York Mets. 6'7", 234,
02:35it's a dead even pick them now at minus 108 both sides.
02:39Yeah, it should be, and like sometimes I just want to lean
02:41with the Mets here at this point. The reason saying that,
02:43you take a look at the lineup today for the Nationals
02:44struggles against left-handed pitching, particularly over
02:47the past 30 days. Peterson's not a great pitcher though.
02:49Over the last 60 days, decent ERA though, Ben, 3.67 overall,
02:52but his XFIP number closer to 5, which is usually that
02:55danger zone. Now, here's the interesting part, something
02:57that we didn't talk about all that much for the Mets over
02:59the past 60 days of the season, but how about the last
03:0230 days? They have been absolutely incredible, which is
03:05rare against left-handed pitching. Take a look at the
03:08first eight batters in the lineup that we're anticipating,
03:10just the weighted on base percentages. Keep in mind, 320
03:13or higher is what you're shooting for. 479, 401, 419,
03:17443, 354, 354, 405, 87.
03:23This is a grimace looking lineup today. So having said
03:26that, I don't like one of these pitchers particularly
03:28a ton, but if you're going to give me one lineup that
03:31is absolutely smashing left-handed pitching, it's the
03:34Mets. That's as good a lineup as you are going to find
03:36on a 30-day stretch from a left-handed pitcher ever.
03:39That's tremendous.
03:41After the Mets took the opener against the Astros on
03:44Friday night at home, they were above 500 for the first
03:48time since the middle of April. They dropped the last
03:51two against the Astros, but despite dropping the last
03:54two in June and the first two in June, New York was 16
03:58and 8 this previous month. And still since grimace
04:01throughout the first pitch, now nearly three Wednesdays
04:04ago at Citi Field, 12 and 4. Can the New York June Mets
04:10and the New York Grimace Mets continue those trends
04:14into the month of July? One more game to break down in
04:18baseball tonight at Coors. Total 11 and a half between
04:22Milwaukee and Colorado. We'll do that next with the best
04:25bet on the other side of the break. You're on the early
04:27line. A matchup tonight in Coors Field is the nightcap
04:31of only three games on this Monday in Major League Baseball.
04:35Again, oftentimes Monday, not a full slate following
04:38the weekend. A couple of teams are off. Thursday, kind
04:41of the same thing. Getaway day, a travel day for the
04:44weekend. The reason there's only a few games today is
04:48because we have a full slate on Thursday. That's July
04:514th, of course, America's pastime on America's B-Day.
04:55So the third and final in Denver at mile high. It's the
04:58Rockies hosting the Brewers, minus 156, the number in
05:02favor of Milwaukee. And anytime we break down a game
05:05inside Coors, 11 and a half. We focus on that total
05:10offense expected tonight at altitude. Yeah, we should
05:14be getting run today. And also keep in mind, sometimes
05:16you take a look at much like Wrigley Field, Ben. Hey,
05:18what are the weather conditions? Not necessarily
05:20with wind, but what the temperatures are. 87 degrees
05:22at first pitch, around five mile an hour wind blowing
05:24out. So it should help. And also we don't have two
05:26dominant pitchers by any stretch on the mound today.
05:28Austin Gombra and Bryce Wilson, both of those guys are
05:31hittable. Now, if we are looking at a lineup that probably
05:33projects a little bit better, it's probably coming from
05:35the Colorado Rockies side, going up against right-handed
05:37pitching over the past 30 days. One, two, three, four,
05:40five, six guys in that lineup with ISO power numbers
05:43at a 165 or higher. That should help. Now, let's flip
05:46it over to the other side here and take a look at
05:48Milwaukee at the plate. Austin Gombra is not a great
05:50pitcher. If I just told you, like, he's got average
05:52numbers, 49 and two thirds innings pitched over the
05:55past 60 days, and he already close to five, but an
05:57XFIP number on 4.46, which again, isn't great by any
06:00stretch. Take a look at his last 30 days. If we're
06:02taking a look at ISO power numbers and weighted on
06:04base percentages, 230 ISO, 417 weighted on base
06:08percentage over his last 108 batters. If we take the
06:10lefties and righties and combine them together.
06:13However, here's where some of the issues creep in
06:16here. If we're looking at the Brewers. Now, granted,
06:17I told you, I still think we're getting runs because
06:19Gombra's not a great pitcher, but left-handed scenarios
06:22for the Brewers over the past 30 days.
06:26Take a look at this. Joey Ortiz, sensational, 27 at
06:28bats against lefties, 318 ISO, 453 weighted on base
06:31percentage. Every single person below him, which is
06:34the final eight batters, all below par on ISO power
06:37numbers. So theoretically, the better offense is
06:39coming from Colorado. I know they're not a good
06:41baseball team, not supposed to win these, but I can't
06:43pass up that plus money here. Don't love the game,
06:45but I'm certainly not going to lay minus 150, minus
06:48160 with Milwaukee in this game today.
06:51Yeah, the Brew crew did take the weekend from the
06:53Chicago Cubs, 50 and 34, Milwaukee's record, a six
06:57and a half game lead over the Cardinals, the Redbirds,
07:00the only other team in the National League Central
07:02above 500. St. Louis has played some great baseball
07:05since the start of June as well. So now before we
07:09say farewell and we say goodbye, it is time for a
07:12best bet on this Monday. It is time for bye-bye-bye.
07:21We got some time to kill here on the back. NDRS,
07:24what is the best bet on this Monday evening?
07:28Should I go real fast and leave you with like two
07:30minutes to spin around to try to find and have some
07:32fun here? Maybe not. I hear I gotta get used to it.
07:36That's true. The last time with Ben, by the way,
07:38is that coming up sooner than later at this point?
07:40Could that be about a week's time? We'll find out,
07:42but yeah, go ahead. You're the only guy that knows
07:45this updated summer schedule, by the way, but we'll
07:47save that in our viewers and listeners for another
07:50day. Go ahead, Deon. Let's screenshot it and put
07:53it up there. Let me screenshot our new calendar
07:55here. Nah, we'll save that a little bit away. Let's
07:57go best bets here. We're going to go with the
07:59Grimace Mets today, B-double-S, to get an RBI.
08:02I told you this lineup looks fantastic against
08:04left-handed pitching. I'm going to go Francisco
08:06Alvarez, the catcher here in the five-fold. Reason
08:08being, four guys ahead of him. All high isos, all
08:11high weighted on base percentage, which means a
08:13lot of people will be on base by the time he gets
08:15up. A 308 iso and a 354 weighted on base percentage.
08:20His number, plus 175 to record an RBI. The Grimace
08:24Mets aren't done making me money. We should be able
08:26to cash in that ticket on Alvarez today to get an
08:28RBI. You know why that bet is even more special on
08:34this Monday, July 1st? Donny Rightside placing a
08:37bet on the New York Mets in honor of Bobby Bonilla
08:40Day. Once again, Donny's favorite holiday should
08:44be a national holiday. He looks at the New York
08:47Mets. Well done, DRS. Well done, indeed.
