00:00Here's your boy Bielema from Illinois.
00:02As a player, I actually was a walk-on that earned a scholarship.
00:05And think about that phone call when I called my parents to tell them I earned a scholarship.
00:09And they were crying on the other line, and I thought they were just happy.
00:12But I also realized, you know, that scholarship made a big payment difference in that household that I was raised in.
00:17And to now have a system where, starting in July, we actually paid our players through PayPal.
00:24Holy s***, the world has changed, right?
00:25Like, it's just a different, different world.
00:27Yeah, maybe they could get a light in the Big Ten press conference, you know, so we can see the coaches.
00:36I mean, I thought Dave was mad or not.
00:38That's even worse.
00:39Like, it's like they're doing it in the dark.
00:42They are in Vegas.
00:43You know, they don't have many lights out there.
00:45They like to keep it dim out in Las Vegas.
00:47So that could be a reason for it.
00:49They're all for the strip.
00:50They don't have any indoor lights.
00:51And everyone, all the people who think they know, say that Illinois is going to be the team that takes the jump this year in the Big Ten.
01:03That they're the team that is going to be this year's Indiana win 10, 11 games and find their way into the college football playoff.
01:12In fact, their odds, I think I have for the college football playoff.
01:15Plus 540.
01:17It's a little bit less than Indiana.
01:18Their win total is 8.5, which is the same as Indiana.
01:21A lot of people think 10 wins for Illinois this year.
01:24Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.
01:26I don't doubt.
01:27I think they have a good quarterback.
01:29And I thought they were tough last year, tough to play.
01:32So I think they're the same team.
01:34Let's see if they can do a little better.
01:36Let's see if they can.
01:38Let's go to this Maryland head coach, Mike Loxley.
01:41Now, I thought he had one of the better ones from yesterday.
01:44So NIL really hurt him last year.
01:48He said it, the haves and the have-nots, it was definitely a problem on his football team.
01:54So he's found a way to hopefully change all of that.
01:57Here's Mike Loxley.
01:58Because I had to decide whether to pay a freshman coming in or take care of a veteran player that helped me go to three bowl games
02:07and have success and do something that hadn't been done in 130 years in the history of Maryland football.
02:13And it was hard to do both.
02:15And so what I've decided now is if you come to Maryland and you look outside of our locker room, there's a sign.
02:22And that sign reads, you can leave your Louis belts, your car keys, and your financial statements outside of this locker room.
02:28Because when you enter those doors, we'll all pay the same price for success or failure.
02:34Yeah, good luck.
02:35Fair enough.
02:37Good luck with all that.
02:38Then they just won't go there.
02:41See, that's the thing.
02:42You know, you can try to be a tough guy and give that kind of stance.
02:47You know, we're not, we're leaving all this outside the locker room.
02:50And that's all fine and good.
02:52But at the end of the day, they're all getting paid different amounts of money.
02:58And they're kids.
03:00And they know it.
03:01And that's, it's just, it's probably, this is not the NFL where it's, you know, it's just, I know it's getting there.
03:08They're trying to be the NFL.
03:10But they're not yet.
03:11And I don't think that the whole, you know, drop your Louis belts and your car keys and your financial statements at the locker room door.
03:18I don't think that works, especially at Maryland.
