00:00I want to get the reaction from our journalist Peter O'Brien, who's at the party headquarters
00:05this Monday.
00:06Peter, then, this huge embarrassment for Macron after he called these snap elections just
00:14three weeks ago.
00:15Yeah, it's been a complete disaster.
00:19I mean, even those close to him, his inner circle, his party camp, were terrified about
00:25what would happen when he did call that surprise snap election on the 9th of June.
00:29We were hearing there about this three-way race, right, that's coming up next Sunday
00:34in 300 constituencies.
00:36That's a record number.
00:38And how Macron's coalition, you can't really call it that anymore, the message discipline
00:42is not there.
00:44Yes, the prime minister, Gabriel Attal, came out a couple hours after the results came
00:49in last night to say, if we have a third-place candidate, they will stand down so that the
00:55Rassemblement National has less of a chance of winning the seat.
00:59But François Bayrou, the head of MoDem, one part of the coalition, Edouard Philippe, head
01:04of Horizons, another part of the coalition, they've said, actually, we're going to be
01:08out to block both the Rassemblement National and the far-left LFI, which is the main part
01:13of the left-wing bloc.
01:15So we're seeing that there's this confusion and a complete lack of message discipline
01:20from what was the presidential majority in parliament as to what to do in this three-way
01:30race.
01:31And obviously, the more confusion there is, the more likely it's going to play into the
01:35hands of the far-right.
01:36All right, Peter O'Brien from the Renaissance Macron's party headquarters.
01:42Thank you very much.
