00:00A symbol of France's increased military presence in Northern Europe,
00:04the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier docked in the port of Malmö,
00:08southern Sweden, on Wednesday.
00:09Its second visit to Northern European waters in 25 years,
00:13the vessel had come to take part in strategic NATO exercises.
00:17But within hours of its arrival,
00:20a Swedish ship identified a drone just 13 kilometres away.
00:24Initially undetected by French forces,
00:26the drone went offline following Swedish interference.
00:29The question is, whose was it?
00:32It would not be surprising if the Russians were conducting intelligence-gathering activities
00:37in this critical zone.
00:39Doing it at a time when the French aircraft carrier is deployed here is a strategic signal.
00:45It is unclear if the drone returned to its launch point or was damaged at sea.
00:50The French army says the Charles de Gaulle, as well as its accompanying frigate
00:54and nuclear submarine, were unaffected by the incident.
00:57Swedish defence minister, Paul Johnson, has said the drone was likely Russian.
01:02A Russian military ship was near the Charles de Gaulle around the time the drone was detected.
01:07This army has said that no drone has been detected since
01:10and that an investigation is underway.
