00:00Tim Franklin says he's an ordinary guy with an extraordinary running goal.
00:07Now he's achieved the ultimate.
00:10Oh, fantastic!
00:12Crossing the finish line after 18 months of pounding the pavement
00:16for 26,232 kilometres straight into the arms of his mum.
00:22Overwhelmed, I've been overwhelmed this whole week.
00:25That is racially so cool!
00:28Tim Franklin's journey began long before he strapped on the runners
00:32realising his poor diet and alcohol could send him to an early grave.
00:37I've been working as a solicitor for a long time
00:40and came across a lot of heartache and a lot of messages
00:43about where due to one thing or another parents were burying their own child.
00:48So in December 2022 he set off from Brisbane to run around the world.
00:53Yeah, the world record was a carrot dangling
00:55but it was never the be all and end all.
00:57The adventure took him across 19 countries, four continents
01:01and some of the harshest conditions on earth.
01:04He went through 21 pairs of shoes and was attacked by wild dogs
01:08and there was great sadness with the loss of his father.
01:11There's plenty of times where I didn't think I was going to get through it
01:15and having the old man upstairs with me the whole way,
01:22I mean I love him, right, he's done so much for me.
01:25He raised more than $80,000 for charity.
01:28He won't run the world again, but he'll be back running tomorrow.
01:32Yeah, why not?
