00:00Sometimes it feels great, even if only temporarily, to grab the nearest junk food and indulge.
00:06But new research shows that not only is this unhealthy,
00:09it can lead to serious memory and medical problems.
00:13The research, published in the Medical Journal of the American Academy of Neurology,
00:17found that eating more ultra-processed foods is associated with a higher risk of memory
00:22and thinking problems, as well as stroke.
00:25Some examples of these foods are soft drinks, salty snacks like chips, hamburgers, and ice cream.
00:31Experts say these foods are high in added sugar, fat, and salt, while also being low in protein and fiber.
00:38Researchers looked at more than 30,000 adults, aged 45 and older,
00:42who were followed for 11 years on average.
