00:44on my own mind the two guys that have the best chance of winning mvp today are kate cunningham

00:56slapped down and abused last night by the san antonio spurs that's a good room for the spurs
01:01bad loss and kate cunningham was terrible last night five of 26 uh but he didn't have 10 assists last
01:08night and the second guy that i think is in the running is sad to say a certain player on

01:16boston celtics jaylen brown jaylen brown is hiring the celtics without jason tatum
01:22to as of right now you know second or third best record in the east basically there's four teams
01:27at the top it's um yeah it's the detroit pistons the boston celtics the new york nicks and the
01:33cleveland calves and then there's everybody else but those are the top four and obviously detroit's
01:38going to be the one seed two three and four it's going to change a bunch i think over the
01:43last month
01:43and a half and i don't want to knock kate cunningham's game kate cunningham is a terrific basketball
01:48player and if i was voting today i'd probably vote jaylen brown one and i'd vote kate cunningham two
01:55but if you want to reverse that i'm also good with that but then when i was thinking about it

02:00take anything away from those two guys it's a watered down mvp award this year because i just
02:06gave you four guys that if they played 65 games would at the minimum be in the running for it

02:46other games we got sga doesn't load manage he got injured he got right when you're looking at it you
02:52should have just trusted that the riders know what they're doing and by and large they have known what
02:57they're doing and we should not have a diluted mvp situation now i think it's fine if the best player
03:04on the best team meaning the best record wins i have no issue with that right now if you vote

03:25luxury tax the ownership was almost conceding hey this isn't our year and it still could be
03:31solely because of jaylen brown and that's great but if we're being honest i don't think anybody
03:37thinks those are the two best players in the nba and it's unfortunate that they will have earned it
03:42but based on the current rules but most people will look at it and say the best player or the

03:48important player didn't win mvp yeah i'd say the only thing i'll push back on what you just said there
03:53is i don't trust the writers because the year that your favorite player joel and bead won the mvp
03:59that was the joke uh the joker was clearly mvp that year and that was because as you remember
04:05and i'm not saying it was you say it so i'll be very clear i'm not putting words in your

04:09but back then there was the whole narrative of well you better give it to a black guy who's never

04:14it before as opposed to a white guy that's won a back-to-back year there's a huge narrative about
04:19how joel and bead had deserved it by the way and beads been a terrific player obviously is most
04:24likely going to be in the hall of fame and he'll certainly be in the sixers hall of fame when

04:27all said and done but that year that was a gift kind of like when the nfl writers gave josh

04:35the mvp because lamar had already won two and they did the exact opposite thing give it to the white

04:41with none as opposed to the black guy with two well the nba did the opposite of that give it

04:52to vote appropriately and i do think it's watered down as you and i are discussing because we put in
04:58this kind of cockamamie rule that if you're gonna either a load management or in the case of being
05:05legitimately injured like sga is right now i think it's his stomach right he's strained some muscles in
05:10his uh his core whatever it is and he said and he said some ankles earlier in the year as

05:14that you just don't play enough games but then the flip side to me is could a guy play 60

05:22miss a quarter of the season and i'll still sit here and say that is the best player in basketball
05:28even though he missed 20 games this year he's still deserving of the mvp and i'm not sure how i

05:40if you pick any one of those guys there's not gonna be a huge argument from any of us i

05:45i still think if i played 75 games and i'm in the running and you played 60 games and you're

05:54running i think by default i should get the nod because i played in significantly more games than
06:03you played it not to detract from what you accomplished not to take away from whatever
06:08your stats might be but i think if i'm playing 75 games and you're playing 60 or even 65 games
06:16which is the number that you have to play i i do think if you and i were pretty closer

06:23where you know six of one half dozen of the other i think the fact that i played more games
06:28should count enough to give me the award
