00:00Work to demolish the landmark Littlewoods Clock Tower has begun. Since December 2023,

00:06teams have been making progress to give the long-derelict plot off Edge Lane a new lease

00:10of life as a film and TV studio. Six months into the project, investigations have established

00:15the next phase of works to make the building structurally sound. As a result, the imposing

00:20tower at the heart of the plot is to be dismantled and rebuilt in a major overhaul. Digital analysis

00:26of laser monitoring are placed on the tower to track its movement and condition has confirmed

00:30how in its current condition the tower is unsafe and could collapse if left. A safe

00:35zone has now been put in place around the tower with workers unable to enter that section

00:38of the site. The intention is to rebuild the tower in the same spot, reusing elements of

00:43the original from the overhaul of the site. Capital & Centric is working with Liverpool

00:48City Council as freeholder of the site and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as

00:53project funders. The Combined Authority, led by Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham, has committed

00:57£17 million to the project.
