00:00Is it okay I borrowed your robe? Oh, of course. You know what, it looks so pretty on you.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best Easter eggs,
00:09callbacks, and bits of foreshadowing in the first two seasons of The Bear.
00:12Watch out for big spoilers ahead.
00:15Obviously, I think you know the history between The Bear and Mr. Beef and how that all came about.
00:22Number 10. Foreshadowing to Donna Berzato.
00:25Many fans were shocked when they saw Jamie Lee Curtis debut as Carmi and Sugar's mom
00:29during Season 2.
00:30When that timer goes off, I need you to remember to put the Rockefellers in
00:35and take out the artichokes, which leaves an open oven. Stop doing something and just listen.
00:40But eagle-eyed viewers might have caught on to this surprising cameo
00:44much earlier. During the Season 2 premiere, you can see a picture of Curtis as Donna when
00:49Richie's going through old photos. The image is far from the only foreshadowing to her character.
00:54Back in Season 1, Tina admits she had a delicious dinner with an anxious Donna.
00:58When might you make that for me?
01:00Christmas.
01:01My mom's?
01:02She full cycle?
01:04She was in town, but the food was great.
01:06While it seemed like a throwaway line at first,
01:08this dialogue was later seen as foreshadowing to the fishes episode.
01:12The Season 2 flashback story depicted Donna's struggles with anxiety
01:15and how cooking for others can really push her to the edge.
01:18This is beautiful. Am I okay? Am I okay?
01:269. The significance of Go Fast Boats Mojito
01:30What should have been a serious business meeting between Carmi and his Uncle Jimmy
01:34is made hilarious by the fact that the restaurant's crawlspace alarm kept going off nonstop.
01:39Richie could only make it stop by giving a security professional a very specific password.
01:45The password is Go Fast Boats Mojito, all one word?
01:48Yeah, Go Fast Boats and then Mojito, all one word.
01:50While this phrase may have seemed random,
01:53fans theorized he came up with it after watching 2006's Miami Vice.
01:57During the film, Isabella memorably used a fast boat
02:00to take Detective Crockett to Cuba for mojitos.
02:02I take you to the best place for mojitos.
02:06Where's that?
02:08For the key that I met you.
02:09You want the keys?
02:11Fans also believe Richie's phrase will play a small role in Season 3.
02:15After looking at an early image,
02:16viewers claimed that Go Fast Boats Mojito would be the restaurant's Wi-Fi password.
02:21No matter what happens,
02:22it's easy to say that Richie has a way with words and pop culture references.
02:26Hellfire's my speciality.
02:28Oh, you have a speciality, do you?
02:30Natalie, I'm not like this because I'm in Van Halen.
02:32I am in Van Halen because I'm like this.
02:35Number 8.
02:36A Family of Swifties
02:37Eva, I love Taylor Swift too.
02:41I just needed a break, you know?
02:42Season 2 was full of Taylor Swift references.
02:45The show established that Richie's daughter is a Swiftie during a quick and funny exchange.
02:50In another scene, we see him struggle to get heirs to her tickets for Eva.
02:54Is now a good time to talk about those Taylor Swift tickets? How we doing?
02:56But the bear's most subtle references to Swift was hidden in the fishes episode.
03:00Before Richie split with his wife Tiffany,
03:02she showed up to Christmas dinner wearing a distinctive 1989 shirt.
03:07We wouldn't be surprised if she was the main reason her daughter Eva loves Taylor Swift.
03:11Additionally, we don't think it's a stretch to say that Richie probably
03:14didn't know the words to Love Story until he started dating Tiffany.
03:18It's a love story, baby, just say it's love.
03:23Number 7.
03:24Carmi Throws Away Money in the Series Premiere
03:26During the Season 1 finale, it's revealed that Michael Berzotto stashed
03:30$300,000 inside of the restaurant's tomato cans.
03:34Cousin!
03:35Yo.
03:38Help!
03:39This twist led to the unforgettable scene where the staff raced to open
03:42every single container to get the cash.
03:45Unfortunately, they weren't able to collect the full amount.
03:48In the very first episode of the show,
03:50Carmi's attempts to change the beef's menu and system weren't well-received.
03:54Don't say spaghetti! All these knives are dull!
03:57Spaghetti's the biggest seller, Carmi.
03:58A fed-up Richie even screamed at his cousin to forget about doing anything new
04:02and make spaghetti like Michael used to.
04:05Although Carmi started to open a can of tomatoes,
04:07he got frustrated and dumped it before seeing the $5,000 contained inside.
04:12It definitely wouldn't be the last time he threw away money.
04:15$95,000.
04:16$95,000.
04:16Just out of morbid curiosity, how accurate do we think these numbers are?
04:20I think I'm pretty much right on a couple of them.
04:22Number 6.
04:23A Subtle Sharpie Joke
04:25After Sydney accidentally let a ton of customers pre-order food online,
04:29an obscenely large amount of customer orders came flooding through the kitchen's ticket machine.
04:33That means we have 78 slices of chocolate cake, 99 french fries, 54 chickens,
04:3838 salads, and 255 mini sandwiches due up in 8 minutes.
04:43The already tense situation was made worse by Carmi's inability to find a Sharpie that
04:48worked during service. When the pressure became too much to handle, the stressed
04:53chef attacked the ticket machine. Although Carmi's freakout was definitely not played
04:57for laughs, his co-workers still poked fun at him in the very next episode.
05:01Their best jab isn't said out loud.
05:03If you stopped and looked at the battered ticket machine,
05:06you could see that the staff wrote a Carmi-specific insult, with a Sharpie.
05:10It's moments like this that remind us why the show is classified as a comedy.
05:13I don't know, you're not as annoying as usual.
05:18I'm just, uh, tired, I think.
05:19Number 5.
05:21Michael's Fenway Poster
05:22When Sydney was talking about the long road ahead for the new restaurant at the beginning
05:26of season 2, she accidentally fell into a hole in the wall.
05:29It's- it's gonna be okay, you know?
05:31All we have to do is just stay calm and make sure that we don't-
05:34Stop!
05:35Sydney!
05:35She never saw it coming, because it was hidden by a poster of Fenway Park.
05:39While almost everyone was concerned with the hole,
05:41Richie was much more worried about the damage to Michael's old possession.
05:45Why'd you tear Fenway?
05:46Why'd I tear Fenway?
05:47It's been there for five years!
05:49It fell through a wall!
05:51Outside of a brief scene where the poster was seen being taped to a wall,
05:54it was practically forgotten about. But it returned as a framed decoration in episode 8.
05:59It's fitting that the poster reappeared looking like a bona fide piece of art
06:03during the same episode where Richie returned to the restaurant looking more professional.
06:08That's why you're wearing a suit?
06:09Um, I'm wearing a suit because it makes me feel better about myself.
06:13Number 4. Luca's Not-So-Secret Rival
06:16So how long you been a cook?
06:18About a year and a half. You?
06:22Uh, 14 years now.
06:25Oh, so you started when you was three?
06:26The pastry master Marcus was fully eager to learn everything he could about making
06:30desserts when he traveled to Copenhagen. While there, he asked a professional chef named Luca
06:35every question that popped into his head. The two eventually talked about their backstories
06:39and journeys. Luca also explained that he honed his skills while trying to keep up with a cook
06:44who was much better than him.
06:45So I never left this guy's side.
06:48And you got better?
06:49Oh, mate. I got better than I ever thought I possibly could be,
06:54just from trying to keep up with him.
06:56Although he never said the mystery man's name aloud,
06:58the identity of this talented cook became clear later on. In the Forks episode,
07:03Richie spotted a framed picture of Luca and Carmi in a Michelin-star-rated restaurant.
07:07This small moment perfectly captured Carmen's ability to motivate and inspire the chefs around
07:12him.
07:13Marcus?
07:17For real?
07:18Number 3. Unpacking the Opening Scene
07:29In the now-iconic opening scene of the show, Carmi has a dream where he approaches a caged
07:36bear on Chicago's State Street Bridge. He cautiously tries to free it without invoking
07:40its wrath. Unfortunately, the bear attacks without mercy. While the animal could represent
07:46many things, it's likely that it was a metaphor for Carmi's brother. The bridge from the dream
07:50was tragically the same place where Michael took his own life. Through flashbacks, we learned that
07:55he could lose his temper at a moment's notice.
07:57That's the worst I've ever seen her.
08:02Altogether, the nightmare suggests that Carmi still felt like he was being punished by Michael.
08:07It's only after the chef confronts his feelings about his brother that he's able to see the bear
08:11as something positive.
08:13For the guy?
08:17For the guy.
08:18Number 2. A Professional Cameo
08:21Hardcore fans may have already known that the original restaurant on the show was based on an
08:25actual Chicago establishment called Mr. Beef.
08:28Both you and your father, I mean, your family didn't ever expect to find,
08:31you know, fame or notoriety, you know?
08:33Yes, yes, which is, I want to, you know, we're beloved in this city,
08:37sure, we're also probably well hated because of it, too.
08:39In the real world, this neighborhood staple is run by a man named Chris Zuccaro. Since his family's
08:44restaurant helped inspire the Acclaimed series, it was only fitting that he got to be a part of
08:49the show. Fans may have missed his cameo because it occurs so early in the run.
08:54You can get $12.50 for that on eBay tonight.
08:55And I'd still be five and a half short. Add this.
08:58During the premiere, Chris Zuccaro plays the man who's willing to provide premium beef in
09:02exchange for a few of Carmi's most valuable clothing items. Without this deal or the
09:07real family store, we might not be talking about the bear today.
09:10Three hundo. Three hundo plus what?
09:14Plus a 1955 Blanket Line Type 3.
09:17Pleated?
09:18Pleated.
09:19Boom.

09:35Number 1. Carmi's Tattoos
09:45We could honestly make a full list dedicated to breaking down all of Carmi's tattoos.
09:50Fans will universally agree that the 773 on his upper arm represents his hometown area code.
09:56However, there's a good amount of debate surrounding his other pieces.
09:59The tattoo of the globe inside a measuring cup could convey that Carmi values cooking
10:03over all otherworldly desires.
10:05I am, uh, currently opening a restaurant that's providing zero amusement or enjoyment.
10:12Meanwhile, the Grim Reaper shaking hands with a bottle of alcohol tattoo
10:16likely captures his personal experience with seeing people he loves with alcohol use disorder.
10:20The Live Fast Snail tattoo might also represent his feeling that he can never move quickly enough
10:25to get things done. As the series goes on, we may get better insight into his tattoos,
10:30and by extension, Carmi himself.
10:32I have to remind myself to breathe sometimes. I, um, I have to remind myself to, uh,
10:38to be present, you know?
10:40What small detail surprised you the most? Let us know in the comments.
10:44It's so crazy to me that you've never seen the show.
10:46No, no.
10:47And you even were in an episode.
10:48Yes, yes.
10:48And you've still never seen it.
10:50Do you agree with our picks? Check out this other recent clip from Ms. Mojo.
