00:00It wasn't until like day 30 in treatment that I actually woke up and said you are being given a
00:05gift here. Welcome to Ms. Mojo and today we're looking at celebrities who lost their wealth
00:11and or status. I have to monitor myself because I'm definitely on a budget. Wesley Snipes. Do you
00:19think you've changed as a person? I hope so. I hope so. You know my dress size has changed quite
00:28a bit.
00:28You might not see much of Wesley Snipes these days but back in the 90s and early 2000s he was
00:34everywhere. Action, comedy, drama. He did it all. His role as the vampire slaying Blade made him a
00:40legit superstar. But when Snipes reached his peak everything started falling apart. On the set of
00:46Blade Trinity he reportedly clashed with the director and co-stars earning the difficult to work with
00:59label. We all know how damaging that can be. Then the real blow came. Snipes got a three-year
01:07sentence for tax evasion losing precious time when his career could have soared higher. In a 2020
01:13interview he said the experience made him a clearer man. Maybe so but not just the famous one he once
01:20was. I don't like you. You never did. Michael Vick. Things are still gonna happen. Situations
01:26are still gonna come up but it's all about how you get yourself away from it and you know how
01:32you
01:32persevere through those situations. As the downfall of R. Kelly and others have shown, fame and fortune
01:37don't make you untouchable. Before 2007, Michael Vick was mostly known as one of the NFL's brightest
01:44stars. But his dogfighting scandal changed everything. It all started when a drug investigation
01:49involving his cousin led authorities to Vick's property where they discovered an illegal dogfighting
01:55ring. It wasn't his first brush with legal trouble but it was by far the most damaging.
02:00When police raided a farm he owned in rural Virginia in 2007, they uncovered an interstate
02:06dogfighting operation called Bad News Kennels. His reputation took a hit. He lost his freedom for 21 months
02:14finances took a nosedive. Between losing his NFL salary, endorsements, and drowning in debts,
02:20Vick filed for bankruptcy in 2008. He may be back on his feet now but that stain on his reputation
02:26lingers. Did you even know it was wrong as you were doing it? Uh you know I you know I
02:33knew it was
02:34morally wrong on the inside because of what we was condoning them with the dogs uh but you know I
02:40never
02:40heard about anybody getting in trouble going to prison uh you know losing their freedom.
02:45Kate Gosselin. You still love him? Somebody once told me that if you feel um sadness and empathy
02:53and pity for someone um the root of that is love so. In the mid-2000s Kate Gosselin was soaring
03:01high.
03:01Her reality show John and Kate plus eight which followed her and her husband John raising eight
03:06kids was a massive hit. Fast forward to 2009, the couple divorced. The show got a rebrand and things
03:13were no longer the same. I got those girls cell phones and iPads so that I could take them away.
03:21Yes indeedy and I've learned I'm not the only parent of teens who has discovered that little gem.
03:27The divorce drama painted Kate in a negative light with rumors of her controlling attitude
03:32and parenting style turning viewers off. The custody battles and allegations of mistreatment
03:38didn't help matters nor did her show's declining ratings. Since other tv projects fell flat Gosselin
03:45reportedly went back to nursing. These days she lives a quieter life but her public image is still
03:50shaped by vast controversies and the Karen label. People change and I I was still on the the path that
04:01we had both agreed on and I think I found myself there alone one day. Lenny Dykstra. Of course I
04:09was upset
04:09I was upset and I was angry and I but the reality is when I look back I made mistakes.
04:17It's wild how
04:18someone can go from owning an expensive penthouse to losing it all. That's essentially Lenny Dykstra's
04:24story. Baseball fans from the mid-80s to late 90s will probably remember this gritty player who
04:30helped the Mets win the 1986 World Series. But after he retired Dykstra's world came crashing down.
04:37Before he knew it Lenny through careless spending catastrophic business decisions and defending a
04:45list of legal charges brought against him was broke. In 2009 he filed for bankruptcy claiming
04:52fifty thousand dollars in assets but behind the scenes were a mountain of debts shady deals and
04:58hidden assets. His troubles didn't end there. Legal woes piled up including charges for grand theft auto
05:05drug possession and bankruptcy fraud. Add in erratic behavior and other disturbing allegations
05:11and you've got a cautionary tale of how money fame and bad decisions can collide. Do you have any
05:17money now? Um I mean the federal government's got most of it. They got 50 million probably.
05:24Kurt Schilling. Schilling climbs the mound and prepares to take on this Yankee lineup.
05:29This baseball star was once on top of the world. Fame, fortune, respect on the field. He had it all.
05:36Who could forget his bloody sock from the 2004 American League Championship Series that was sold
05:41for a little over 90,000 dollars. After retiring from baseball he set his sights on the business world
05:47but that turned out to be a colossal failure. Fueled by his hobby for gaming, Schilling borrowed
05:53millions and launched a video game company. This one-time jock created all this opportunity
06:00by turning in his baseball for a broadsword. Unfortunately for him, he also allegedly invested
06:06his entire net worth into this project, resulting in bankruptcy. As for his company, it bled out.
06:13Many lost their jobs and eventually it all collapsed. There's no question he's on the hook and
06:18uh he's taking a serious serious financial hit. Post bankruptcy, Schilling joined ESPN as an
06:24analyst but that gig wasn't without its own controversies. Lisa Marie Presley. Elvis Presley
06:31Enterprises merged with another company and in that merging he bought 85 percent of it. However,
06:37I still own 15 percent. I still have control in what happens and all a lot of that money actually
06:42it was a diversification process is what happened. Elvis Presley wasn't dubbed the king of rock and
06:47roll for nothing. He was one of the greatest artists to ever live. But by the time he died,
06:51most of his fortune was gone. His ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, however, managed to turn his legacy into a
06:57multi-million dollar brand. When Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis's only daughter, inherited the estate at age 25,
07:04it was reportedly worth around 100 million dollars.
07:13Sounds like she was set for life, right? Well, not quite. A trail of questionable decisions led to her
07:18losing control of the fortune her mother had rebuilt. Debts piled up, lawsuits followed, and as of the time
07:25of her death in 2023, she was reportedly 10 million dollars in the red.
07:29There is no way we are going to do anything that is going to at all harm, you know, the
07:35name or of my
07:36father or my father, period. Willie Ames. Trouble's where you find it. You know, you can find it in
07:42Wall Street, you can find it in corporate. It's wherever you choose to find it. I made some really
07:47stupid decisions in my life, and I'm proud of them. Falling from riches to rags isn't exactly rare
07:53in Hollywood, and Willie Ames is a prime example. In the 80s and 90s, he was living large, starring as
08:00Tommy in Eight is Enough and Buddy in Charles in Charge. I bought you a new pet to replace your
08:07snake. What is it? It's a surprise. I don't care what it is. All I want to know is what
08:11does it eat?
08:12Everything. The guy was a teen idol, but stardom doesn't come with a lifetime guarantee. Rolls dried up,
08:19substance use disorder became a problem, and his fortune dwindled. One bad decision after another
08:24left him completely homeless. The same actor who once had millions was struggling to survive.
08:30In a 2017 interview, Ames opened up about hitting rock bottom and taking responsibility for his actions.
08:37It takes sheer determination to reach an all-time low and come out strong. We'll give him that.
08:42No, we won't refinance you. No, we won't lease it to you. And you need to be out.
08:49In six days. We can't help you.
08:51Ed McMahon.
08:52Well, doesn't a shark continually swim? It never stops swimming.
08:56The shark never stops swimming. All its life.
08:59What does that got to do with my swim?
09:00Well, I mean, this is you saying for the first three years, this is all its life. It never stops
09:04swimming.
09:04What happens when you outspend your earnings and go through a couple of divorces? You could end up
09:09like Ed McMahon. Once TV royalty, Ed was Johnny Carson's sidekick on The Tonight Show,
09:14and later the face of Star Search. But in 2008, fans were stunned to learn he was $644,000 behind
09:22in mortgage payments and facing foreclosure on his Beverly Hills mansion.
09:28I can't believe it. Surprise, surprise, surprise.
09:31That's not even all. Citibank sued him for unpaid debts and a neck injury only made his situation worse.
09:39In a candid chat with Larry King, McMahon acknowledged his role in his financial ruin.
09:44Overspending, risky loans, divorces, you name it. The saddest part? A man who once made millions
09:50allegedly died with about $2 million in debt.
09:54Nobody has made an offer. I mean, it's just, and it's a lovely home. I hate to leave it. I
09:59want
09:59to keep the home. I want this all to work out.
10:02Lauren Hill
10:09Fame at a young age can be a double-edged sword. Lauren Hill was in her early 20s when the
10:15Fugees
10:15dropped The Score, one of the biggest hip-hop albums of the 90s. But tension in the group,
10:20especially with Wyclef Jean, led to their breakup.
10:24I was drumming my pain with his fingers. One time. One time. Singing my life with his words.
10:33One time. That didn't dim Hill's light. She soared solo with the miseducation of Lauren Hill,
10:38which was a critical and commercial triumph. But after the high, things unraveled. The Grammy-winning
10:44artist slowly withdrew from the spotlight and, over the years, gained a reputation for being late or
10:50unpredictable at shows. Then came the final blow, a tax scandal that landed her in prison for three
10:56months. Unfortunately, not everyone built for greatness is cut out for fame.
11:01I'm out here with Wyclef, the son of Gessner. These days, that's a heroic gesture. We need to
11:07learn to forgive, build a bridge to terabithia.
11:09Tom Sizemore. Once upon a time, Tom Sizemore was Hollywood's go-to for tough-guy roles,
11:15stealing scenes in Heat, Black Hawk Down, and Saving Private Ryan.
11:19Someday we might look back on this and decide that Saving Private Ryan was the one decent thing we
11:27were able to pull out of this whole god-awful s*** mess.
11:31But as Sizemore's acting career was booming, his life was spiraling. Why? Sizemore had a serious
11:38substance use disorder, but that wasn't all the mess he had in his life. The action star was also
11:43arrested multiple times for domestic abuse, drug possession, and probation violations.
11:49Do you still get pretty closely followed by the TMZs? Do you get the feeling that they're
11:54kind of waiting for you to stuff up again? Despite a few comebacks, Sizemore failed to
12:00reclaim the fame he once had. His name became more associated with scandals than talent. He went from
12:07a multi-million dollar house and luxury cars to having almost nothing. Tragically, at 61,
12:14he died from a brain aneurysm, which his lifestyle may have contributed to.
12:18I always did thought I could come back, but in the previous year to me going into treatment here,
12:22the addiction had become, I didn't even like it anymore, but I could not stop doing it.
12:28Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.
12:30How is your financial situation now? It's a struggle.
12:35Lots of Mexican food, you know, at the food shop.
12:37Once the king and queen of reality TV, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt shot to fame in the mid-2000s
12:43on MTV's The Hills. They brought a lot of drama, often overshadowing the show's star, Lauren Conrad.
12:50That's her problem, I guess.
12:52She'll roll on it.
12:54What?
12:54She'll roll up on it right now.
12:56Their lavish lifestyle was no secret. They blew cash on luxury wardrobe, Pratt's crystal
13:01collection, a full staff, all while ignoring their business manager's warnings. Heidi's failed
13:06music career, plus her infamous plastic surgeries done in one day, didn't help matters. Soon,
13:12all the money was gone, and they were living broke in Pratt's parents' vacation home. Sadly,
13:18in 2025, they lost their home to the LA fire outbreak. There's more than enough caution in
13:24this cautionary tale. It's a place that you love, that you live, that's a refuge from the world,
13:30and to have that be gone is a really difficult concept to continue to daily deal with.
13:38Sly Stone
13:38Sly Stone rose to prominence in the late 1960s as the frontman and bandleader of Sly and the
13:45family Stone. The group was groundbreaking, not only for their unique blend of funk, rock,
13:57soul, and gospel, but also for their racially and gender-diverse lineup. Stone's visionary talents
14:03led the group to commercial fame, but his struggle with substance use disorder largely contributed to
14:08their dissolution in 1975. In the years following that, Stone launched a solo career that never quite
14:15took off. On top of that, the substance use disorder persisted, and he reportedly clashed
14:30with his manager and lost access to royalty payments for many years. This apparently put him in the hole,
14:36leaving him homeless and dependent on welfare checks. In June 2025, Stone sadly passed away at
14:43the age of 82. Doug Hutchison
14:46Although he had accumulated a string of supporting film credits, Doug Hutchison's breakthrough came in
14:521999's The Green Mile. Hutchison earned critical acclaim and multiple award nominations for his
15:07performance as a sadistic prison guard in the Stephen King adaptation. He eventually lost all of
15:13that favor when, at the age of 51, he got married to the then-underaged, upcoming singer Courtney Stodden.
15:20Why the rush to get married? Because, you know, I felt like, um, this world isn't gonna last forever,
15:26and, uh, you know, life's short. Hutchison was widely criticized for the move, and, according to him,
15:32was completely blacklisted by Hollywood and even his own family. This brought his once-flourishing career
15:38to a screeching halt, leading him to file for bankruptcy in 2017. The couple managed to weather the storm and
15:44remain together for years, although they eventually called it quits in 2020.
15:49It's been the rock for me through so many things, you know, that I've been through, so, um, you know,
15:56it's, it's, it's been, it's been interesting.
15:58Teresa Giudice. Since 2009, Teresa Giudice has been a regular cast member on The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
16:10That same year, Giudice and her husband Joe filed for bankruptcy, citing over $8 million in liabilities.
16:18This, however, was only the start of their troubles. In 2013, they were both indicted on multiple fraud
16:24charges, with some of them related to their 2009 bankruptcy case.
16:28What did you know about any of that? I would love to answer all your questions, and one day I
16:33will,
16:33but, you know, out of the respect of the process, I'm gonna let, you know, the legal matters play out
16:40in court.
16:40They eventually entered a guilty plea and were ordered to pay over $400,000 in restitution.
16:46As a result, Giudice was sentenced to 15 months in prison, which he served at the Federal Correctional
16:52Institution in Connecticut. In 2020, Giudice filed for divorce from Joe, and the couple sold off their
16:58longtime New Jersey mansion the following year.
17:01How do you make a marriage like that work? I mean, it's, it's, it's kind of hard. Like, I want
17:06to wake
17:06up with someone, go to sleep with, you know, with some, you know, I want to, I want to wake
17:11up,
17:11you know, I want to spend every day with that person.
17:13Kelly Rutherford. Kelly Rutherford has been a staple on the small screen from as far back as the late 80s.
17:19The Kentucky-born actress first burst onto the scene with the NBC soap opera Generations.
17:25Listen, I want to, I want to thank you for making my dad's wish come true.
17:31You know, I am so glad he has you for a friend.
17:34Oh, honey, thank you for your support.
17:37She later gained further recognition with major roles in Melrose Place and Gossip Girl.
17:42But all of the money Rutherford amassed from those shows was eventually whittled away by a grueling
17:47custody dispute with her ex-husband, Daniel Gerrish. After filing for divorce in 2008,
17:53Rutherford fought for sole rights of their two children, a battle that cost her about $1.5 million
17:59in legal fees alone. As a result, she filed for bankruptcy in 2013. Regardless, the dispute continued,
18:06and Rutherford ultimately lost custody of both children in 2015.
18:11From the beginning, I said I would fight for my children. I think most parents would.
18:16This was a mother refusing to abide by a court order and forcing the father to do something that
18:24he was loath to do. TLC. With four Billboard number one hits, multiple awards, and tens of millions of
18:31records sold, TLC were undeniable powerhouses throughout the 90s.
18:35Go, go chasing waterfalls. Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
18:45Their sophomore album, Crazy Sexy Cool, was released in November 1994 and sold more than 15 million
18:51copies worldwide. So it came as an absolute shocker when, the very next year, it was announced that
18:58they were filing for bankruptcy. TLC cited their seemingly exploitative record contracts,
19:03which left each lady with less than $50,000 in annual payments.
19:08At the height of their fame, they filed for bankruptcy. Cheated, they say, by unfair recording
19:13contracts. We're so broke, we had to borrow money to go broke. They succeeded in renegotiating their
19:18contracts and bounced back with 1999's fan mail. However, due to the sad and untimely death of Lisa
19:26Left Eye Lopez in 2002, they went on a hiatus, but have since come back together, now as a duo.
19:33Brett Butler. For five years, Brett Butler played the titular divorced single mother on the ABC sitcom
19:40Grace Under Fire.
19:42Bedtime.
19:44How come I go to sleep when I'm not tired?
19:47Because whether you're tired or not has nothing to do with it, honey. You gotta be when mama's tired.
19:52As the main star, Butler took home around $250,000 per episode. But her struggle with substance use
19:59disorder eventually contributed to the series getting the axe in 1998. Since then, Butler has
20:04come under financial fire, admittedly making careless decisions that ate up most of her net worth.
20:10This is so dramatic, but I felt like my soul was leaving before. I knew I was probably going to
20:15die.
20:15It wasn't what it should have been, which is losing my terrific husband, getting fired.
20:21Although she made a return to the small screen, taking up recurring roles in How to Get Away with
20:25Murder and The Walking Dead, things don't seem to have gotten any better. In 2021, Butler became so
20:32broke that she nearly lost her apartment and hesitantly set up a GoFundMe page in order to save it.
20:39Sinbad. Comedian and actor Sinbad first gained popularity on the TV series A Different
20:45World before landing his own sitcom, The Sinbad Show.
20:49Come on, man. We're a team, right, man? Always been a team. When something good happened to me,
20:53something good happened to you, right? Team, brother. Don't leave me, hand me, brother. Come on.
20:57Although the series was canceled after one season, Sinbad went on to film multiple stand-up specials
21:02and appeared in a host of movies and TV shows. But as his star power kept rising, so did his
21:08spending,
21:09up to the point that it exceeded his income. And it certainly didn't help that he kept defaulting
21:14on his tax payments, ultimately accruing a tax debt of $2.5 million. In 2013, Sinbad filed for
21:22bankruptcy, declaring that he was $11 million in the hole with only $16,000 in monthly income.
21:29Not even saying, when the bankruptcy hit me, people looked at me like, look at you. I said,
21:34bro, look at my life. You can look at me. You ain't never seen Sinbad with something
21:37that he wasn't supposed to have. I helped a lot of people in my life. I pushed a lot of
21:43people
21:43forward in my life. Amanda Bynes. Amanda Bynes spent four years on the Nickelodeon sketch series
21:49All That before landing her own spinoff, The Amanda Show.
21:52Hello, I am Judge Trudy. Now, uh, Jason Fema, I understand you have a complaint against your
21:59parents. Sure do, Judge Trudy. His complaint is ridiculous. Did I tell you it was your turn to
22:05speak, mister? I can't keep my mouth shut. By the 2000s, she was already a teen idol,
22:11racking up credits like What a Girl Wants and Hairspray. But things soon took a downturn.
22:16Bynes faced a tough battle with substance use disorder and found herself in a rabbit hole of legal
22:21trouble. With rolls drying up and so many court cases piling, it became easy for money to go down
22:28the drain. Then she started making headlines for all the wrong reasons. A series of driving
22:34violations, disturbing tweets, even a hospitalization under a psychiatric hold. Even worse, she was placed
22:41under a conservatorship and lost control of her finances. Bynes seems to be getting her life back
22:46on track, however, as she has maintained a long streak of sobriety and had her conservatorship
22:52ended in 2022. Gary Coleman. For his role as Arnold Jackson on the NBC sitcom Different Strokes,
22:59Gary Coleman was, at one time, receiving the biggest salary for any child actor on the small screen.
23:06Get a load of Supermouse. Watch it, Vernon. The last dude who talked to me like that,
23:12I laserized his nose. But after Different Strokes came to an end in 1986, Coleman realized that his
23:19parents, who had been overseeing his finances, had grossly mismanaged it. In 1989, he filed a
23:26lawsuit against them, as well as a financial advisor, and was awarded $1.28 million in restitution.
23:32In the end, when he went to court to compel that accounting, he found that after everyone else
23:37was paid, there was almost nothing left for him. You were fleeced. Pretty much.
23:43However, the roles seemed to dry up as Coleman grew older, leading him to file for bankruptcy in
23:481999. He reportedly battled with multiple health and legal issues later in life, and passed away in
23:542010 after falling down and suffering a brain bleed. I just hope Gary's happy, and he's in a better
24:00place, and he's not suffering anymore. MC Hammer
24:03Over the span of a decade, MC Hammer became the quintessential rags-to-riches and back-to-rags
24:09Hollywood story. After releasing two moderately successful albums, Hammer achieved worldwide fame
24:15with his hit single, You Can't Touch This, from his third studio album.
24:19My music hits me so hard, makes me say, oh my lord.
24:23At the time, Hammer's net worth was valued at over $33 million by Forbes. This seemingly overnight
24:30wealth was soon sucked up by his lavish spending, extravagant mansion, and numerous dependents.
24:36Everybody knew that I had 200 employees. It wasn't no secret. So what do you think,
24:40I was paying them in hamburgers?
24:43By 1996, Hammer's musical success had plummeted, and he had to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy,
24:49as he was over $13 million in debt. The California rapper never quite
24:54recovered from his fall, despite a few comeback attempts.
25:03Dennis Rodman
25:05As a professional basketball player, Dennis Rodman became world-famous for his insane
25:10skills on the court, as well as his controversial persona.
25:18Rodman retired from the NBA in 2006 and also performed as a wrestler, actor, and reality TV
25:25star. Rodman's journey to Penery began in the mid-2000s when he became involved with the con
25:31woman Peggy Ann Fulford. Fulford posed as a financial advisor and was able to scam Rodman,
25:37as well as multiple other athletes, of millions.
25:55This ate into his finances so much that he could barely afford to make his child and spousal support
26:01payments. After Fulford was convicted, Rodman was awarded over $1 million in restitution,
26:07which, admittedly, he most likely will never get. T-Pain
26:12Since bursting onto the scene in 2005, T-Pain has racked up a slew of hit singles and accumulated
26:18a fortune of over $40 million. However, instead of making wise financial investments, he bought
26:25a massive house and a $2.1 million Bugatti, which he later sold off for just $800,000.
26:31And then I was like, hey, since I got this Bugatti, you know, I need another house.
26:37I can probably take this one. These people just moved out of a house that's literally
26:41connected to my house. So, you know.
26:43It certainly didn't take too long for that bank account to go low, low, low.
26:52By 2019, the Bayou A Drank singer was left with no option but to file for bankruptcy protection.
27:04He did win the first season of The Masked Singer the same year,
27:07and things seem to be looking up for T-Pain nowadays.
27:11Todd Herzog
27:12Prior to being cast on the 15th season of Survivor, Todd Herzog traveled across America
27:17as a flight attendant for SkyWest Airlines. His highly calculated run on the show culminated
27:23in him winning the season and taking home the $1 million cash prize at just 22 years old.
27:28Winner of Survivor China.
27:35But while he triumphed on the screen, Herzog's entire fortune was in jeopardy,
27:40as he was struggling with alcohol use disorder.
27:43It wasn't until about 30 days into treatment that I realized exactly how bad I was.
27:48And you had no recollection of being on The Dr. Phil Show.
27:52I remember about this much.
27:53After seeking professional help, Herzog was able to turn his life around.
27:57He has since attained sobriety and now lives a rather quiet life with his husband,
28:02Jess Hermanson.
28:03We had the dolphins help me propose to this beautiful man, Jess.
28:09Fantasia.
28:14This North Carolina singer and actress was propelled to stardom after winning the third season of
28:20American Idol in 2004.
28:22The winner of American Idol 2004 is Fantasia Barino.
28:32Her first ever single, I believe, went straight to number one in the US and Canada,
28:37and her debut album was certified platinum.
28:40Things seemed to be off to a good start for Fantasia,
28:43but due to her sole breadwinner status among her siblings, mother and daughter,
28:47and the declining sales of her second album, she soon found herself struggling.
28:52Her $1.1 million house was set to be auctioned off to cover an unpaid loan.
28:57In an interview with Oprah, Fantasia owned up to her mistakes,
29:01blaming her misfortune on her financial decisions and inability to say no.
29:09In 2023, she announced her return to school after dropping out as a teen.
29:15Gary Busey.
29:16Once upon a time, Gary Busey was a mainstream Hollywood star.
29:20The Texas actor gained national attention for his leading performance in the 1978 biofilm,
29:26The Buddy Holly Story, which earned him an Oscar nomination.
29:35He followed this up with starring roles in movies like Lethal Weapon and Point Break,
29:40which were certified box office hits.
29:43Listen, stop those little shit!
29:45I was taking shrapnel and quesad while you were crapping in your hands and rubbing it on your face!
29:49His financial downturn came in 1988, when Busey was involved in a serious motorcycle accident
29:55that left him with permanent brain damage. The once bankable Hollywood player became
30:00erratic on and off camera, and soon struggled to find roles in movies and TV shows.
30:05My brain got altered in a way that's not normal,
30:10and I have a different way of looking at things and feeling things,
30:13and I know how special life is.
30:15With most of his money gone and not enough coming in,
30:18Busey had to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2012.
30:22Lil' Kim
30:27Widely regarded as the queen of rap, Lil' Kim inspired a generation of rappers with her music,
30:32and has sold upwards of 30 million singles globally.
30:35Life really was all about the Benjamins for the hip-hop star.
30:43However, following dwindling album sales and a prison stint in 2005,
30:48Lil' Kim found herself in a free fall.
30:50In 2018, she declared bankruptcy, claiming to be about $4 million in debt,
30:56with unpaid taxes and mortgage loans taking up a large chunk of that figure.
31:01In order to pay off her debt, the Queen B's $2.3 million mansion was auctioned off,
31:06with the opening bid being $100. Yep, you heard that right.
31:17Kim Basinger became a Hollywood fixture for her notable femme fatale roles throughout the 80s and
31:3190s.
31:32But at the height of her acting career, Basinger faced multiple setbacks that severely impacted her finances.
31:42First, she paid $20 million to acquire a small town in her home state of Georgia,
31:47an investment that backfired tremendously.
31:50Next, she backed out of the doomed movie Boxing Helena, for which she was sued and forced to pay
31:56millions of dollars to the studio. This resulted in her filing for bankruptcy. To top it all off,
32:02her marriage to Alec Baldwin ended in a messy divorce that reportedly cost the Oscar-winning
32:07actress another few million dollars.
32:09Um, you know, we're all fine. We all get along, whatever. But he's been,
32:14but he's a challenge. I mean, come on.
32:16She never quite recovered financially.
32:18Toni Braxton
32:19For someone like Toni Braxton, who's sold more than 70 million records worldwide,
32:24it's hard to imagine how she could go bankrupt twice.
32:31Just two years after her smash hit, Unbreak My Heart, Braxton found herself in dire straits,
32:37and had to declare bankruptcy. While her music generated millions, Braxton barely got any of it
32:43due to specific clauses in her recording contract.
32:54She managed to dig herself out of that hole, but ended up filing for bankruptcy again in 2010,
32:59after her Vegas residency was cancelled due to her health issues. But just like the Phoenix,
33:05she was able to rise from her financial ashes, and has since produced and starred in the successful
33:10reality series, Braxton Family Values.
33:13And no one did anything for me. My family wasn't my people that I love. Because when you're being
33:18inducted into something, you call the people close to you. But everybody bailed on me.

33:39Burt Reynolds
33:40Oh, I love your suits. They must be a bitch getting a size 68 extra fat.
33:44Hollywood legend Burt Reynolds was a top box office draw in the late 70s and early 80s,
33:50but he gradually lost his bank ability as the years progressed. This, coupled with his costly divorce
33:56from Lonnie Anderson and some poor investment choices, led to the actor filing for bankruptcy in
34:021996. He made a career comeback soon after with Boogie Nights in 1997, which earned him a Golden
34:08Globe and an Oscar nomination. By 2014, Reynolds was auctioning off personal items and memorabilia,
34:22which rekindled news of bankruptcy. In 2014, he auctioned his most iconic belongings, the canoe from
34:29Deliverance, the Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit, and his 1998 Golden Globe for Boogie Nights.
34:37Until his death in 2018, Reynolds lived at his Florida estate, which once faced foreclosure,
34:43but was then bought by his neighbor, who let him live on the property at a low cost.
34:48Which of these downfalls is the most tragic? Let us know in the comments.
