00:05Kevin Costner is opening up about leaving Yellowstone and revealing why he finally
00:09made it official. Last week, Costner took to social media to confirm that he won't
00:13be returning to the beloved Paramount series.
00:15I just realized that I'm not going to be able to continue
00:21season 5B or into the future."
00:24He told fans the realization came after working on his ongoing western film series,
00:28Horizon An American Saga, for the last year and a half.
00:31Costner also shared this message with his fans.
00:34I love the relationship we've been able to develop and I'll see you at the movies."
00:38While promoting the first film in his Horizon Saga over the weekend,
00:41Costner spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about
00:43departing Yellowstone and moving on from playing John Dutton.
00:46You just recently announced that you are officially not coming back to Yellowstone.
00:50How tough of a decision was that for you to make?
00:52It wasn't tough. It was a necessary decision to say,
00:56okay, this is, you know, I don't want to really talk about this anymore.
01:00It's time to move on. I gave this thing five seasons. I was really happy to do it.
01:06And I don't need drama. So let's just take that drama away. Let's take the guests.
01:11The fans have been way too good to me.
01:14And my obligation is to go on and continue to make things that mean something to them.
01:20I owe the fans the best movie I can make.
01:23If I give up movies and don't want to make any more, that's my business.
01:26But if I choose to make movies, I have the fans right on my shoulder.
01:30And not to cater to them, but to kind of take them in a direction
01:34maybe they didn't even think something could possibly go.
01:37So I make them for people. It's not my movie anymore.
01:40It's the fans that have supported me. It's for them.
01:45Horizon An American Saga Chapter One hits theaters on June 28th.
01:49Chapter Two will be released later this summer on August 16th.
