00:00A nightclub DJ claimed trial at a magistrate's court in Ayer Kero on Monday to a charge of
00:06obstructing police officers from carrying out their duties.
00:09Ngo Wei Kian entered the plea before Magistrate Kairunisak Hasni.
00:14Based on the charge sheet, the 26-year-old allegedly obstructed the police officers from
00:19performing their duties as public servants by speeding off in a car to evade arrest after
00:25being instructed to stop.
00:27The offence was allegedly committed in Tenkera at around 1.20am on June 21.
00:34The charge was framed under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries up to two years
00:39imprisonment or a fine of up to 10,000 ringgit, or both, upon conviction.
00:47During mitigation, Lawyer Kashin Anthony, representing Ngo, told the court that his
00:51client was a passenger in the car driven by his elder brother before the vehicle was stopped
00:55at a police roadblock and a summons was issued to the driver.
00:59He said Ngo alighted from the car to inquire about the summons before being allegedly assaulted
01:05by the policeman and leaving him requiring medical treatment.
01:10Anthony also told the court that his client would be filing a separate report on the incident
01:15to the police's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department.
01:19The court granted bail at 2,500 ringgit, with one surety, and set July 24 as the next
01:26mention date.
