A tense moment at the White House as Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt struggles to convince a reporter on U.S.–Iran peace talks. Despite claims that negotiations are “productive,” questions remain over who Washington is actually negotiating with and whether a deal is real. The exchange highlights growing skepticism as war tensions and diplomatic uncertainty continue to rise.

00:00You addressed this a little bit in the opening, but just to follow up, because Americans are
00:03sort of seeing these conflicting messages between the United States and Iran. I know
00:06the president insists that negotiations are underway. As you just mentioned, he's also
00:10said that Iran has agreed to most of the 15 points. We just heard from Iran, again, they're
00:15saying no negotiations are taking place. They're calling the proposal excessive, unrealistic.
00:20So how do you square that? How do you explain that discrepancy between the two?
00:25I think the American people are smart enough not to take the word of a terrorist regime
00:29that has chanted death to America for 47 years at their word. And I hope the journalists
00:35in this room are wise enough not to take an Iranian regime that has repeatedly lied about
00:40our country, about our values, about everyone in this room, frankly, for nearly five decades.
00:46So I think the American public are smart enough to understand that.
00:49The president has made it quite clear to the Iranian regime at this moment in time, as evidenced
00:54by the statement that you just read that their best move is to make a deal, or else the United
01:00States Armed Forces has capabilities beyond their wildest imagination, and the president
01:05is not afraid to use them.
01:06Do you mean potential more crimes?
01:07That's not what I said, Garrett. And you're saying the word potential for a reason, because
01:11I'm sure some experts are telling you that in your ear to try to ask me that question.
01:16Of course, this administration and the United States Armed Forces will always act within
01:21the confines of the law. But with respect to achieving the full objectives of Operation
01:26Epic Fury, President Trump is going to move forward unabated, and he expects the Iranian
01:31regime to make a deal with the administration.
01:33Well, that's part of the ongoing process that's taking place, and the ongoing negotiations.
01:37Of course, anything that they say to us privately will be tested, and we will ensure that they
01:42are being held accountable to their word. And if they are not, the president has laid out the
01:46military consequences that the Iranian regime will see if they don't hold true to the words
01:51that we are hearing privately behind the scenes.
01:53When the president says more reasonable, again, these folks are appearing more reasonable
01:57behind the scenes privately in these conversations than perhaps some of the previous leaders who
02:02are now no longer on planet Earth because they lied to the United States, and they strung us
02:08along in negotiations, and that was unacceptable to the president, which is why many of the previous
02:13leaders were killed. So again, this is another historic opportunity for Iran to do the right
02:17thing, to rid themselves of their nuclear ambitions, and to come to a deal with this
02:23president and the administration. Or again, they will see the grave consequences of the United
02:28States Armed Forces, which they are continuing to see every day throughout this operation.
