00:00His first thing to me was like,
00:01do you like to do any hobbies?
00:02Do you like skydiving or flying helicopters?
00:05Or I said, no, I like to keep my feet on the ground.
00:09But that's what makes Tom Tom.
00:11Hi, it's Jon Hamm.
00:12I'm here with The Hollywood Reporter
00:13sharing some of my close collabs.
00:16♪♪
00:21Kristen Wiig.
00:22I love Kristen.
00:23I love working with Kristen.
00:25We've known each other for a long, long time
00:27and met the first time when I did Saturday Night Live.
00:30She told me she was working on a script.
00:32She didn't even really tell me what it was about,
00:34but she was like, did you ever consider being in it?
00:36I was like, yeah, I'd love to be in it, that'd be great.
00:38Kristen, whatever it is, I can't wait to do it.
00:40When we shot Bridesmaids,
00:41which is when we shot all of the beginning of the movie,
00:43the sex stuff and all the funny stuff,
00:45we had a very hard time keeping it together.
00:47But that was part of the fun of the whole shoot
00:49was that it was so silly
00:51and we were so comfortable with one another, obviously.
00:52So it was just pure, pure fun.
00:55This is so awkward.
00:56I really want you to leave,
00:57but I don't know how to say it
00:58without sounding like a dick.
01:00Oh.
01:01I think all of that joy in the making it,
01:03not just from my perspective, obviously,
01:05but from Kristen and Maya and Melissa,
01:08everybody involved in it really came through the screen.
01:10♪♪
01:16Tina Fey.
01:17Tina's another person that I got to know
01:18through Saturday Night Live.
01:19First week I was hosting,
01:20the phone rings in my dressing room in 30 Rock.
01:23Hello?
01:24We have this part for you.
01:25Do you want to do a part on the show?
01:27Oh my God.
01:28Yeah, yes, I do.
01:29Great.
01:29What is it?
01:30Well, we haven't written any episodes.
01:31Oh, okay.
01:32Again, me saying yes to something
01:33that I have no idea of what they're even doing.
01:35But unbeknownst to me,
01:36Tina had called Lorne after the read-through
01:39and said, is this guy funny?
01:40Is he any good?
01:41Because she had only seen me on Mad Men.
01:42So I got the blessing and I got to be on 30 Rock.
01:45And then over the course of our careers together,
01:48I've worked on several things,
01:50including Kimmy Schmidt and Mean Girls.
01:52And to be a part of that kind of cultural moment
01:54feels very good.
02:01Jen Aniston is another person
02:02that I've known for quite some time.
02:04I met Jen a long, long time ago,
02:06although she probably wouldn't remember it.
02:08I met her at the premiere of a movie
02:10called The Object of My Affection,
02:11which my friend Paul Rudd is starring in.
02:13It was one of the first Hollywood premieres I got to go to.
02:15That was back in the 90s.
02:16So she was still like very Friends oriented.
02:20And then when the opportunity to work together
02:22finally came up, it seemed like a no-brainer.
02:26Hi.
02:26How do you do?
02:27Pleasure to meet you.
02:28There's a mutual respect and admiration and trust
02:30and all of that wonderful stuff.
02:31So to be able to come into such a fully formed,
02:35well-oiled machine of a show
02:37that The Morning Show was at that point,
02:39populated with such incredible actors,
02:41it was a pretty nice honor.
02:47Jeremy and I got to know one another on the town.
02:50Neither one of us had sort of burst through
02:52the kind of crust of the working actor kind of situation.
02:57And we both had a blast on the town.
02:58We both had really good parts in it.
02:59Jeremy's career went, you know.
03:01So it was nice to keep that friendship up
03:03and we ended up getting a chance
03:04to work together again on Tag.
03:08Oh God.
03:11I don't understand how he came back
03:13from that unbelievable injury so quickly,
03:16but he's a lovely guy and a very good friend
03:17and a tremendous actor.
03:19And, you know, he's kind of gotten a second chance
03:21to live again.
03:22My gosh, it was devastating when we heard
03:23about this tremendous accident,
03:25but he has come through it unbelievably.
03:27So, big ups.
03:34Elizabeth and I obviously worked on Mad Men for many years
03:37and tremendous relationship on that show.
03:39Obviously Don and Peggy were invested in all of that.
03:43So now this is my fault?
03:44Well, it's not my fault.
03:45Over the course of 10 seasons of, or 10 years,
03:48seven, eight seasons of a show,
03:50you develop a shorthand with everybody.
03:52I mean, it wasn't just Elizabeth at all.
03:54It was Vinny in January and John Slattery
03:56and Bobby Morris and Christina.
03:58We all were very close over the course of that run.
04:02We made something that we were very proud of.
04:10Tom Cruise is the last movie star.
04:14A one-of-a-kind force of charisma and nature
04:19and talent and everything.
04:22To be around him is to sort of bathe
04:24in that reflected light.
04:26I was tremendously honored to get the offer
04:28to be a part of Top Gun Maverick
04:31and to be invited into that world
04:34that meant so much to me when I was a teenager
04:37and a young man,
04:38and even before I even considered being an actor,
04:40was pretty inspiring in many, many ways.
04:42Your reputation precedes you.
04:45Thank you, sir.
04:48Wasn't a compliment.
04:48Tom is very loose on set.
04:50He's very prepared and he's very serious as well,
04:52but he's also,
04:53you can tell that he very much enjoys
04:56what he does for a living.
04:57He loves being on set.
04:59He loves engaging with people.
05:00He loves having conversations.
05:02He loves to find out about people and have,
05:04you know, what are you into?
05:06His first thing to me was like,
05:07do you like to do any hobbies?
05:09Do you like skydiving or flying helicopters?
05:11I said, no, I like hiking and tennis.
05:14So I like to keep my feet on the ground,
05:17but that's what makes Tom, Tom.
05:18You know, he is a full tilt representation
05:22of what it is to be pure charisma.
05:29Jamie Foxx exudes talent in everything he does.
05:34He's a tremendous energy on set,
05:36working on Baby Driver with Jamie.
05:38Obviously we had a lot of dangerous
05:39sort of choreography and things,
05:40and so you really wanted to feel comfortable
05:42around everybody that you were on set with.
05:43And Jamie was the consummate professional,
05:46and not only so good and so fun and funny,
05:49but just loose, you know,
05:50he would bring his bipod or whatever
05:52and just kind of keep music going
05:54and everybody would be in a good mood.
05:55A friend of mine described Jamie
05:56as the mayor of every room he walks into,
05:58and that's sort of tracks.
06:01I feel like I'm always learning.
06:03I watch people.
06:04Part of doing what we do is understanding
06:07that a lot of people do things differently
06:10and there's a lot of ways to get to the finish line.
06:12People can find their own way to their truths
06:15and hopefully interesting permutations
06:18and combinations of what can be.
06:21That's the fun part of it,
06:22is sort of figuring out what it's gonna be like
06:25and then enjoying it while you get the chance to do it.
06:28It won't be too long before the computers
06:29take all our jobs away,
06:31so we might as well enjoy it while we can.
06:34This has been Jon Hamm.
06:35Nice talking with you, Hollywood Reporter.
06:37See you next time.
