00:00Congratulations nominated tonight your first Tony nomination. Yeah, what's going through your mind?
00:08Not much really just being out here with my peers and like seeing people whose work I've respected in their mind for years
00:13I'm just taking it all in. I'm glad it's not you know, it doesn't feel bigger than what I can handle
00:19You know, it feels very good. It feels right like I'm supposed to be here because I am you know, of course you did
00:24Yeah, I avoid that word, but I know that I've trusted God
00:29I've put in work and I just want to keep giving to people that's all that matters to me
00:32Yeah, the outsiders of course produced by Angelina Jolie
00:36What was it like working with her and what was the most insightful thing that you learned by putting together a production with her?
00:44It's been beautiful working with her the most insightful thing has been watching how she navigates a space
00:51Navigates conversations, you know how intentional she is in her words in her language
00:57She says so many beautiful things to me that have helped me both in my character development
01:02But also off the stage outside of the work, you know, you can't you can't replace that
01:06She has steep legs in this business, you know
01:08And when she walks into a room you feel that and it's a blessing just to share space with her
01:14Obviously, it's a really wild political year right now. Why is live theater and something like tonight important now more than ever?
01:22Because to a degree, you know the way the world is going, you know with the advent of so much
01:26So many other ways of communicating
01:29it's almost like people don't know how to be people or losing the ability to be themselves in certain spaces and theater and
01:36Live shows in general you bring people into the same space together
01:40You know, if you're able to put your device away long enough you're sharing breath
01:44You know
01:45You might share the same heart rhythm and those things matter and to walk into a theatrical space and feel that to feel the energy
01:50To feel somebody else's shoulder or forearm because you're sharing seats
01:54We need that as humans, you know, and that can never be replaced and if it ever goes away
01:59I feel sorry for humanity in that moment and but it never will because we crave it at the same time
02:05Obviously being a part of a Broadway production. It's a very demanding schedule. How do you find that balance?
02:11What balance balance in your life your personal life your?
02:15like the only way to
02:17In my opinion the only way to continue to thrive as any type of artist is to live life, you know
02:23So yeah
02:24Well, we have work to do and jobs to do if we can squeeze in an hour of time with family and friends or you know
02:28A release, you know, maybe hit a bar if that's what you do
02:31You know walking a park a hike like those things are necessary and we get that time into
02:36Finally your favorite show on or off Broadway right now outside of your own
02:41Stereophonic
02:43Yeah, heck. Yeah, I haven't seen much but I love that show you're gonna see their performance tonight 100% and I can't wait
02:50Yeah, thanks so much for stopping by. Good luck tonight
