00:00Give me a minute, because I have not gotten to this yet today, and I was waiting for you
00:07to get to it.
00:09Unfortunate passing, and really the NBA and basketball has had now a couple of these in
00:13the last few weeks.
00:14We had Bill Walton a few weeks ago now.
00:16Jerry West, the logo, passing away, 86 years old, obviously part of those Laker championship
00:22teams, 60s, 70s, the architect with the 80s, Showtime Lakers, executive, Hall of Famer,
00:31and pretty much every level of the league, Coach, Jerry West did it all.
00:37It's a sad day in the NBA, Carver Hyde, to lose the logo, a.k.a. Mr. Clutch.
00:44And I'm going to say this, folks, he's not the best player of all time.
00:49He may not even be in the top ten.
00:51You can't name a more, ready folks, impactful, top five, I would say, in regards to impact
00:59on the totality of his career.
01:02Start off coming out of West Virginia, what he did as a collegiate star.
01:08Going to the Lakers, 12th time All-NBA, obviously, you know, not winning a Finals until 72.
01:14Well, folks, he had to go through the greatest dynasty in the history of the NBA in the Boston
01:21Celtics with Red Auerbach, with Bill Russell, with Bob Cousy, and all those guys.
01:28Then he finally got past them, 1970, what does he got?
01:32He gets the Knicks, Game 7, Willis-Reed, every time it was Willis-Reed, he didn't talk about
01:37the play of Walt Frazier getting 36-19 in Game 7, stealing that title, finally getting
01:43his title in 72.
01:45But then there's the next phase of Jerry West, right folks?
01:49There's what he did in regards to bringing back a Lakers team that was done.
01:55He coached them for three years, he was there, they got matched, right?
01:59He drafted, obviously, James Worthy, you know, he made the trades that were necessary, getting
02:06bloody Divas, Kobe Bryant, Nick Van Exel, you can go on and on and on with the Lakers,
02:11and then after 2008 leaves, and then he goes to Memphis, which could be the greatest job
02:16of them all, because that team, Carver High, was awful, and he got Jason Williams in the
02:23trade, James Posey, Paul Gasol, and he brought back, ready folks, one of the greatest coaches
02:29of all time that no one talks about, Hubie Brown, who hadn't coached Carver High since
02:35the 80s, brought that team to relevance.
02:37Oh, I got more?
02:39We got more.
02:40Then where does he go?
02:41To Golden State, right?
02:43And Joe Laker brings him in as an advisor.
02:46What does he do?
02:47Stolidifies that roster, doesn't allow them to trade Klay Thompson, and then obviously
02:52his role with the Clippers.
02:53This guy, from basically, has impacted this game of the NBA from the day he got drafted
03:00in 1960 to the day he died.
03:05That is 64 years of impact of the great Jerry West.
03:11He was Mr. Clutch on the court.
03:13He was just as much as Clutch as an executive for a lot of teams.
