00:00 Police say it's too early to say whether the wounded man was known to police, but investigators
00:06 do have information to suggest that this attack was not random.
00:11 Four family members were at home here in Carnes Hill when seven men wearing face masks forced
00:16 their way inside about a quarter to one this morning.
00:20 Some of the men were armed with a machete, pistol and a shotgun.
00:25 They demanded money and during a scuffle a 25-year-old man was shot in the calf.
00:32 As the men left, they doused the door with petrol and set it alight.
00:36 The entrance caught fire briefly, but the flames didn't take hold and the fire extinguished
00:41 by itself.
00:42 The shotgun was fired into the side of a vehicle parked in the driveway before the men fled
00:48 in two vehicles.
00:49 Those seven men remain on the run.
00:51 "Look, it's always worrying when offences like these happen and all I can say is that
00:56 generally these matters are targeted, but there's always the exception.
01:01 I would just say that to ensure that your own safety is ensured, that you don't have
01:06 your variables out, that you secure your home and if you see anything suspicious, report
01:12 it."
01:15 The shooting victim was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
01:20 Officers say his girlfriend, mother and a grandparent who were at home have been left
01:24 terrorised by this home invasion.
01:26 Detectives are canvassing the street for CCTV and interviewing neighbours as they try to
01:31 determine a motive.
01:33 They're appealing for anyone who may have information to contact Crime Stoppers.
