00:00 Being applauded off the field after a win inside two days was quite the way to
00:04 conclude the first block of county championship matches for Durham.
00:07 Captain Scott Borthwick reflected on the emphatic win against Somerset and the
00:12 batting of David Beddingham.
00:14 Look, I probably wasn't on my radar this morning,
00:18 especially to win today, but I thought the partnership this morning with
00:22 with Rainey and Sid was outstanding and we mentioned that in the dressing room
00:26 there. We pride ourselves on lower order runs from the guys batting from
00:30 seven downwards, but that partnership this morning was incredible and I think that
00:34 almost won us the game because we went into that little session before lunch
00:38 with momentum and then we got two wickets before lunch which was amazing.
00:42 To win in a day and a half is incredible. I think it's as good as I've seen.
00:47 We obviously had Leazy last year who churned them out and was just incredible.
00:52 But I honestly think with the way Bedders is playing right now,
00:56 I've been lucky to play with some very good players. Kumar Sangakkara down at Surrey
01:00 was incredible, but I honestly think Bedders is as good as I've seen for a long time.
01:06 He's going to go and play for South Africa in August, I think it is, and he'll
01:12 do well there because he's just an extraordinary player.
01:16 We're so lucky to have him in the side.
01:20 It's a surprise when he misses a ball.
01:22 Bedingham set a new Durham record by scoring four consecutive centuries
01:26 in the county championship, but was keen to praise the whole team despite his achievement.
01:31 I think the main thing out of this game is I think we got a win.
01:36 I don't want to make it about me. I think the way our bowlers bowled,
01:40 the whole game was quite special and I'm glad we could come away with a win.
01:44 I've worked hard for a long period of time, so I don't expect it to
01:49 happen because you can't guarantee runs, but I think the way that we've all
01:54 worked hard, obviously, so I don't want to make it about myself again,
01:57 but I think I've worked really hard over the last three or four years,
02:00 so to have that hard work payoff is quite cool and special.
02:04 England Test captain Ben Stokes made his second appearance of the season,
02:08 taking a wicket. Bedingham and Borthwick both spoke about his ability.
02:12 Really cool, I think I'd almost hate to be captain because I think after six overs
02:16 I think Scott was trying to take him off, but Stokes was just like, "No."
02:20 So I think the effort that he gives to any team he plays for is probably the reason
02:27 why he's a world-class player. So I think we're very lucky to have him.
02:31 When he's bowling as well as that, he can bowl all day.
02:34 We all know what he's like as a character. He's incredible to have.
02:38 When he's on, he's on. You can't get the ball out of his hand because
02:43 he's a competitor, he's a match-winner, and he wants to do it all.
02:47 When he's bowling well, he can bowl 10, 12 other spells.
02:50 That spell today was just incredible. It was fast, it was swinging.
02:55 Just another level, really.
