00:00 >> Mr. President, welcome back to the Oval.
00:11 >> Hi. It's great to have you here.
00:13 Today, we celebrate 60 years of partnership
00:17 between Kenya and the United States.
00:19 During that time, our partners have gone
00:21 from delivering for our nations to delivering for the region,
00:23 and I, quite frankly, think delivering for the world.
00:26 And it's remarkable.
00:28 This visit is not just about our history;
00:30 it's about the future that we're going to do together.
00:33 And there's a lot we can and must do together.
00:36 There's virtually no challenge, I think,
00:38 that Kenya and the United States can't meet together
00:41 and improve the circumstances, no matter what it is.
00:44 Climate change, technology, economic development,
00:46 good health, the whole question of counterterrorism,
00:49 clean energy -- all of which we're working on together
00:52 and you're leaning on as well.
00:54 So I look forward to discussing all these issues today
00:57 and I really am happy you're here.
00:59 And I hope we get to spend some time together.
01:02 Welcome.
01:03 >> Thank you. Mr. President,
01:07 thank you very much for inviting me.
01:09 And thank you for the moments we're going to share together
01:12 during my visit.
01:14 Already, as you've said, we're celebrating 60 years
01:18 of a solid relationship between Kenya and the United States,
01:24 built firmly on the foundation of shared values,
01:27 which we cherish, of freedom, democracy,
01:31 the rule of law, respect for human rights.
01:35 And we're very proud of the relationship that we have built.
01:40 And that relationship, Mr. President,
01:43 has given us the opportunity to face our challenges together.
01:47 And you, Mr. President, and the United States
01:53 have provided leadership,
01:54 and Kenya is working with you in the context of the challenges
02:00 that face our region --
02:01 challenges of security, challenges of peace.
02:05 And together, we have surmounted many challenges
02:11 and we have the wherewithal and the capacity
02:16 to do more together.
02:19 And, Mr. President, we will be exploring opportunities
02:23 for trade or investment,
02:27 working together in the frameworks that exist,
02:31 whether it is on climate.
02:33 You remember, Mr. President, we had the Africa Climate Summit
02:36 that I convened in Nairobi.
02:38 And we changed the narrative on the African continent.
02:42 Instead of us thinking about victimhood,
02:47 we decided that we're going to provide solutions,
02:49 working with progressive democracies like the U.S.
02:53 on how to deal with these challenges.
02:55 And the last three weeks,
02:58 I also convened the International Development Association,
03:03 IDA Replenishment Summit in Nairobi with the World Bank,
03:06 again, to look at solutions
03:08 around the international financial architecture.
03:11 How do we make it much more sensitive,
03:16 agile, and that can respond to pressing economic issues
03:22 compounded -- that have been compounded by climate change
03:25 and inflation and interest rates?
03:31 And I am very proud, Mr. President,
03:33 that the United States is working with us
03:35 towards resolving the challenges that face us,
03:39 but also exploring opportunities for trade,
03:43 for investment in areas of technology.
03:47 And we will be signing one of the most progressive agreements
03:53 on tech between Microsoft and a Kenyan company,
04:00 looking into the future around new technologies, AI.
04:05 And so, Mr. President, I am inspired
04:10 that these moments are giving us the opportunity
04:14 to leverage on our friendship
04:16 and to build a stronger collaboration
04:18 to face up to the challenges that face the globe
04:22 to make our countries freer, safer, healthier,
04:28 and much more progressive. And I'm looking forward.
04:30 >> The President: I'm glad to talk about it.
04:33 >> Thank you. >> The President: Thank you all very much.
04:35 >> Thank you, Mr. President. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
