00:00 Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Lovely to
00:06 speak again to Charlotte Mitchell. Now Charlotte, this time you are making your debut with COS,
00:11 the Crawley Group, and you are at the halls from the 6th of June to the 8th of June with
00:17 Maid and Dagenham. And just hearing the company have made you incredibly welcome, that must
00:22 be so heartening.
00:23 Yes, absolutely amazing, honestly. It was really daunting going, moving to a different
00:29 society that I've never done a show with before. But from the moment I walked in, everyone
00:34 at COS made me feel so welcome. They kind of welcomed me with open arms. And yeah, they've
00:40 just they've just really made me feel like part of the family.
00:43 Because it's a big, big role you're stepping into. Rita, Maid and Dagenham.
00:49 It is indeed. Yes, it's an absolute beast of a role. You know, she goes through absolutely
00:54 every emotion under the sun. She really goes on a journey and you see her kind of coming
01:00 out of her shell and, you know, becoming more and more feisty and strong and, you know,
01:05 leading the group of girls to equality. But also on the flip side, you really see the
01:10 vulnerable side of Rita as well with everything that happens with her family.
01:13 But part of the attraction is that this is a show that deals with some big issues, doesn't
01:18 it? Some important issues in their time and important still, aren't they?
01:22 Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. I mean, these women, you know, it's a true story. They all
01:28 fought for equal rights and equal pay. And, you know, this is a story that, you know,
01:35 is prevalent throughout many different parts of history. And we're just really lucky that
01:40 we get to bring that story to life and, you know, show the triumph that the women have
01:44 when they kind of overcome, you know, the injustice of inequality.
01:48 Absolutely. And it sounds like it's coming together nicely then.
01:53 It is indeed. Yeah, we've got a few weeks until opening night. So we're all really excited.
01:58 We did a run through yesterday and it's all starting to come together. Characters are
02:03 coming to life and, you know, the real importance of the message is starting to, you know, be
02:07 portrayed by the cast and they're all absolutely amazing. So, yeah, makes my job easy.
02:12 Well, not that easy, I'm sure. But perhaps. Brilliant. Well, lovely to speak to you. Good
02:18 luck with everything. And have a great time with the new company and with that massive
02:22 show. Thank you very much. Thank you so much. Thank you.
