Despite the wall on Spenser Road being cracked for three months, William Dordoy says Tesco Bank's communication has been poor.

00:00 A crumbling wall and crumbling hope. A Herne Bay man fears it's only a matter of time before
00:06 his wall will come tumbling down. Williams fearful someone could be seriously hurt as
00:12 a result.
00:13 He says the wall cracked in January after three storms battered the county.
00:19 The day before the wall was fine, the day after the storm, this is what the wall was
00:24 like and it's dangerous. But Tesco's have waited three months before they've finally
00:31 told us they're not going to pay for it.
00:33 But Williams says cracks have started to show elsewhere too. His insurance provider, Tesco
00:38 Bank, originally said the repair to the wall would be covered under his policy.
00:43 We are writing to advise you of the next steps following the validation of your insurance
00:49 claim on behalf of Tesco. This letter is to confirm your claim is fully covered.
00:55 But on further inspection, it claims it's nothing to do with the weather and puts the
01:00 damage down to a poorly maintained wall.
01:03 And then we just received a call from Tesco saying, yesterday this was, that they weren't
01:09 going to cover it. We're not asking for the earth, but we just want the wall fixed.
01:13 Tesco Bank apologised for Mr Dordoy's experience but denied the claim, saying the damage was
01:20 due to its already poor condition and gradual wear and tear. It's offered compensation for
01:26 delays and miscommunication. It says it'll also pay for the barriers the council has
01:31 put up.
01:33 This barrier's been put here to stop people from accessing the footpath, but originally
01:36 it was placed right the way up to the kerb. But it's since been moved, it's assumed that
01:40 it's been moved by pedestrians trying to access this pavement, but they're not meant to be
01:44 accessing this pavement due to the dangers the wall is causing. So this is now posing
01:49 more imminent concerns, all the while people are walking up and down here, that something
01:52 really serious could happen.
01:55 It is dangerous. If it falls over, if it gets another windy day and you can see cracks in
01:59 it all over the place now, it could fall. And it'll fall this way, because the bushes
02:04 will stop it falling that way.
02:05 William may be relieved to have heard back from his insurance company, but certainly
02:10 isn't comforted at the bill he could soon have to pay out to make repairs. With the
02:15 six foot wall comes a mountain of other concerns, ones he hopes to resolve soon before someone
02:21 gets hurt.
