00:00New owners, new prices and new plans.
00:03The Angel Pub in Raynham is getting another shot and the couple in charge say it's a dream
00:08that's been brewing for years.
00:10It was our dream and we've got to do this together and what's made it even more exciting
00:17is how welcoming the community are and how helpful they are.
00:20And they love seeing us behind this bar and not a load of members of staff, it's us, we're
00:25serving the people.
00:26They come in, they greet us and we have a chat and they literally come to see us.
00:30Some of them have got our personal numbers and they will text us saying we're coming
00:35down tonight and I believe that some of them even say we're going to see Paul and Liz as
00:41opposed to shall we go to the Angel.
00:43Despite being the fifth team to run the bar in five years, the pair are confident they
00:48will make it work.
00:49We've had some good feedback from the community already of what was tried and what didn't work
00:55in their eyes and it is quite consistent on what they're saying.
01:01They have said they want a proper boozer back, they want pub grub, they want a fish finger
01:06sandwich, they want a burger and we're going to do that for them.
01:12Paul and Liz are confident that by appealing to the dog walkers, cyclists and soon to be
01:17nearby residents that their pub will be much more successful than it was for previous owners.
01:22Because the new houses will bring people to the pub.
01:25Exactly.
01:25So hopefully the quicker they get it done, the quicker we can get some more people in.
01:30Obviously passing trade is going to affect us like that, but we have a lot of footfall
01:34here as well.
01:35Dog walkers, this is the main entrance and exit right opposite on the corner.
01:40They come in with their dogs, they have free dog treats there, free water.
01:44The water is actually on a beer pump so they can pull out their own water.
01:48A lot of the locals walk down to the pub as well.
01:53You've been posting on Facebook as well, haven't you?
01:56Although the road's closed, we're not, we're open, come on in.
01:59So I think that's helped.
02:01But what is the reality of success here?
02:04We know that lots of people love their pub and lots of people want to run a pub.
02:08And the thing that's perhaps stopping those pubs from surviving and thriving is the fact
02:15that they are up against a lot of costs.
02:17There are soaring employment costs, there's beer duty, there's energy costs, and all of
02:24these things cumulatively take their toll on keeping those pubs thriving.
02:29With the pair having a fresh outlook on the future of the Angel, with already clear community
02:34support and new homes on the way, they might just be the kickstart that sticks.
