Jimmy, 1-0 defeat against South Park in the Surrey Senior Cup final, but you more than
00:05
played your part in that game and had chances but just wouldn't quite drop.
00:08
Yeah, absolutely gutter, gutter. A hard one to take. The boys are flat on their feet there
00:13
with just disappointment and you're sort of... Yeah, I thought we started the game a little
00:17
bit nervy and sort of replicated Jersey a little bit. I thought the occasion maybe got
00:23
to us the first 10, 15 minutes and tried to explain to the boys at half-time, you know,
00:27
the more you go up the divisions and you play against better players. I think we've
00:31
been gifted so much this season with dictating the ball, having a lot of ball possession
00:36
and I think we had to work hard tonight and I think it shocked a few of the boys, that
00:40
level of effort and that's what's needed as you creep up them divisions. So, we showed
00:45
a little bit of immaturity, I think, in the first 15, 20 minutes. Then we sort of got
00:49
to grips of it with the shape, we changed the shape just to match theirs and I think
00:53
we slowly growed into the game. Then, obviously, approaching the second half, I thought it
00:59
was all us, really, in terms of chances and then we just gifted them a mistake. Unfortunately,
01:04
a sloppy ball into Brandon. Brandon couldn't quite sort his feet out and they just caught
01:08
us patch-gutted with the... He thought he could have done a little bit more but it's
01:12
been a little bit harsher, I think. Yeah, just a gutter, really.
01:15
Obviously, yeah, I mean, obviously, cup final, they're going to be gutted but they need to
01:18
remember kind of what a great season it's been, don't they, you know, and I'm sure they
01:22
do, obviously. I think it's a mixed emotions. I think it's something that I expressed in
01:25
there that there's something that they need to be proud of and we're all super proud of
01:28
this year. It just wasn't meant to be this today but it also highlights a little bit
01:33
in terms of what's expected next season, in terms of where we're at, you know, don't
01:37
get me wrong, it's not been ideal preparation in terms of the games we've had and, you know,
01:41
losing Shams late today and, obviously, Lidl gone. All of a sudden, you've got sort of
01:46
two players there that come on and, I think, make an impact but we were extremely light
01:50
on the bench today. We've really, you know, Michael Kingseller only coming back to full
01:56
fitness recently, Tom the same and it was only Kai to use. Max was a no-go but we just
02:02
sat him on the bench. So, in terms of what we could bring on, in terms of to freshen
02:06
it up, we didn't really have that today. I think that showed a little bit but, yeah,
02:11
again, you know, you'll probably catch me, everything's a little bit raw at the minute
02:15
but I think, you know, once we get this out of our system, it's something, this season
02:19
is something we need to be proud of. Yes, it's just, yeah, you say all season you've
02:22
been blessed. You've kind of had five or six in those sort of front positions but with
02:26
Shams, as you say, coming down ill and Adam's gone, it just sort of left you, yeah, Kai
02:31
was the only attacker on the bench. Yeah, to be honest, we would have probably made
02:33
a couple more just in terms of fresh legs but we were sort of sitting there with sort
02:37
of two defenders on and our hands were tied a little bit in terms of how different we
02:41
could do it. So, yeah, it was just unfortunate that it's all fallen on this week. But a
02:48
good, as you say, a good sort of eye-opener for next season just in terms of, you know,
02:52
obviously what you're going to be coming up against. Massively. Listen, I know this is
02:55
a cup final and probably players get up for it a little bit more on their behalf but that's
02:59
what, you know, as you go up in divisions, you're going to go through periods, you're
03:03
going to come up against better players, better teams, you know, you're going to go through
03:07
periods where you don't get to touch the ball or it's not quite working right for you and
03:10
that's where you sort of stick together as a unit and work hard. I thought that first
03:14
sort of half was a little bit disappointing in the fact that we were sort of pointing
03:18
fingers a little bit and that's not what we're about. But we'll learn from it today, we'll
03:23
get stronger from it and hopefully push on for next season.
03:27
The pleasing, you managed to sort of grow into the game from that sort of start and
03:30
then really, let's say, second half really sort of, yeah.
03:32
I think it was only one team scoring in the second half, you know, in terms of creating
03:36
and we pushed and pushed and it just wasn't, it was all a little bit huff and puff. I thought
03:39
we lacked that little bit of quality in front of goal, just tired legs. Any other day, you
03:44
know, two or three of them go in. But I think sort of Charlie, Charlie's chance at the end
03:48
where anything on target really and it goes in but I think that pretty much highlights
03:52
the day. It just wasn't meant to be.
03:54
Yeah, yeah, just kept going to the end and it just wasn't meant to be.
03:57
Lack of effort, yeah, can't fault the boys' lack of effort. It was constant but that's
04:00
been like that all season. So, yeah, it was massively disappointing but I think when the
04:07
dust finally settles, we'll learn from it and we'll look back and be very proud of what
04:11
we've done this year.
04:12
As I say, great season now, time for a break and then full on next year.
04:16
Time for a massive break, mate, yeah. So, I'm looking forward to it, just to refresh
04:19
everything and reset and I'm sure the boys think exactly the same. I'm not sure how long
04:25
we've got off but, yeah, a nice bit of time off now and look forward to next year.
