Glasgow’s Social Bite celebrates its first birthday

Social Bite - the cafe which provides hot food and drink for homeless people - is turning 1.

00:05 We turn one next week, which is very exciting, we're all growing up, the year's flowing in

00:11 super super fast and we're just trying to take stock of what we've achieved over the

00:17 past year and think about what we can do to sort of help contribute towards our projects

00:23 coming up over the next 12, 18 months. It's an amazing time to be part of Socialbike and

00:32 what the guys here in Glasgow have achieved is brilliant and we're super proud of them

00:37 all. It was quite a homecoming reopening in Glasgow because obviously we had coffee shops

00:42 before. The people of Glasgow were really excited for us to come back and they have

00:47 warmly welcomed us back with open arms and lots of people have come and visited us and

00:54 helped support our mission. But we still do free food, Monday to Friday every day for

01:02 people from a homeless background or people who need to access the free food service.

01:10 Since we've opened in the past year we've given out over 20,000 food items and it's

01:16 about 16,000 hot drinks and that's quite significant, scary numbers when you think about it. As

01:24 part of our birthday celebrations and turning one next week we are encouraging all of our

01:29 customers to come in and pay it forward. Since we opened in Glasgow last year almost 6,000

01:36 people have come in to pay it forward and the importance of that is that by paying it

01:42 forward you are directly contributing towards the free food service that we run in the coffee

01:48 shops. So people come in, they can buy their own lunch or their own hot drink and they

01:53 can pay it forward with a hot drink or a lunch item which we then put towards the free food

01:57 service.
