00:00 The purpose of this visit is to assess progress which we have made towards the construction of this center.
00:12 This center is a new facility, it is a work in progress.
00:17 We took over this site, it used to be used for purposes of the mandate of the National Youth Service before,
00:26 but we took it over 13 acres to put up a state of the art center of excellence for the treatment and rehabilitation of our brothers and sisters
00:41 who have found themselves addicted to alcohol, drugs and psychotropic substances.
00:49 And this project, when complete, will have many facilities including expanding the accommodation which is available now, which is a bit limited.
01:01 The accommodation we have now is for about 50 patients, but every day we see 300 patients who are being treated here every day.
01:14 And once this project is complete, it will cost 1.3 billion shillings.
01:25 So it's going to be a huge center and it's going to be the place which we believe will be the center of excellence in matters of treatment,
01:37 rehabilitation and reintegration of our brothers and sisters who have been affected by this problem of alcoholism and drugs.
01:49 So far, we've spent about 166 million, but we still have a long way to go as you can see.
02:01 And my coming here was just to see what already has been started here.
02:07 As I have said, what we have behind us here is like the first project which is behind us here,
02:15 which will be the first among so many other projects that we want to set up here, including dormitories, a training center, workshops and so forth and so on.
02:29 We will even have staff houses so that our doctors and service providers can reside here with their clients and support them until they are fully treated.
