00:00 Today in addition to the regular weather forecast we have a very special weather
00:05 report for you. Let's have a look.
00:09 Hi I'm Celeste with a very special weather report. From up there to down
00:17 here everything is crazy. If we don't listen to scientists things are going to
00:23 be even crazier when I grow up. Let's look at the forecast for 2050. Heat waves
00:29 will affect 94% of children making play out everything of the past. Extreme
00:35 droughts will wipe out crops including some of my favorite foods to eat and
00:40 disasters will cost taxpayers almost six trillion dollars. Of course all of this
00:46 is caused by blankets of heat trapping pollution in the atmosphere that we
00:50 could just like not put up there. But don't worry there's still a chance of
00:55 clear skies. Right now clean energy systems are moving in from the east to
01:00 the west creating tons of cool jobs and solar prices have dropped lower than oil
01:06 and gas. Going to the satellites it looks like a high-pressure system of grown-ups
01:12 could still move in and protect kids from an avalanche of really bad stuff.
01:16 Some gossip political winds ahead but they're no match for the power of
01:21 Hurricane Trinbago. That's where I'm from my country. We'll keep you posted as we
01:26 track if adults stop wasting time and fix this totally solvable problem
01:31 because it's not just a weather report to us it's our future.
01:37 Well this special message is part of a new global climate action campaign
01:50 organized by the United Nations Development Program in partnership with
01:54 the World Meteorological Organization. Today on March 21st leading up to World
01:59 Meteorological Day on March 23rd we and many other broadcasters across the world
02:04 air weather kids. So children from across the world like Celeste are acting as
02:09 traditional meteorologists showing us how extreme weather will impact their
02:13 everyday lives when they are grown-ups. The campaign is intended to encourage
02:17 people to take climate action and the 2050 weather forecast is based on
02:22 climate projections and data from the UNDP, WMO and IPCC. Sign the pledge at
02:28 weatherkids.org to take urgent climate action on behalf of children across the
02:33 world and learn what the United Nations is suggesting we should do to act now.
