00:00 "This government made a commitment last year to ensure that the National Police Service
00:06 acquires modern and efficient capabilities for mobility which is protected so that our
00:16 officers don't get harmed by criminals in terms of weapons which are effective enough
00:24 to countermand and neutralize the fire of organized criminals.
00:31 But also we are in the process and advanced stage of also increasing our air capabilities
00:40 which includes armored and manned aerial vehicles and also gunship helicopters.
00:49 And here today we are receiving the first consignment of MRAP's, that is the Mine Resistant
00:56 Ambush Protected Vehicles, as well as APCs.
01:02 And there are also an assortment of sophisticated weapons and personal protection equipment
01:09 for our officers in the front line.
01:13 I am also authorized to announce that in another one month we will also be receiving the second
01:21 batch and we will commission the same equipment in this manner that we have done today.
01:28 In total, during the past seven months, the Government of Kenya has spent 7.6 billion
01:37 Kenyan shillings in the police modernization program of our equipment.
01:43 Moreover, the Government has committed to continue funding this program for the next
01:49 three years.
01:51 And therefore, there is another 29.4 billion shillings which will be used to acquire even
01:59 more equipment, more sophisticated and more devastating to the enemy.
02:06 And therefore, I feel that this is a very proud moment for us and I really want to congratulate
02:16 the teams that helped us through the inspection process, through the procurement process,
02:23 through the delivery process.
02:25 I want to thank all of you for a job well done and we have before us equipment that
02:30 will go a long way in strengthening the efforts in our operation Malisa Hualifu in Northern
02:38 Rift Valley and also in the fight against terror in Northern Kenya and the Boni End
02:46 Cliff.
02:46 Thank you.
