00:00 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:27 --relations between the US and Pakistan?
00:30 Well, we have very close relations between the United
00:32 States and Pakistan, and I'm one that
00:34 wants to make them stronger.
00:35 It is very important that as we build close relations,
00:39 we can have honest disagreements.
00:41 You should be able to air your differences, which
00:43 is why I expressed my concerns about reported irregularities
00:48 in the last election in my letter
00:50 to the Pakistani ambassador here.
00:51 What concerns you have about these elections in Pakistan?
00:55 Well, I expressed my concerns because I
00:57 think irregularities leading up to the election,
01:00 and then at least reported irregularities
01:03 during the election.
01:04 So I do think the United States government really
01:06 needs to make very clear we expect
01:08 a full and independent investigation
01:12 into those regularities.
01:13 People need to have confidence that their voices are,
01:16 in fact, reflected in the ballot box.
01:21 I think it's important that the United States continue
01:23 to push for that kind of transparency.
01:27 So Imran Khan is in the jail.
01:29 His supporters, his voters say this all fabricated cases
01:32 is like a political victimization
01:34 of a great leader.
01:35 Well, this is exactly why I expressed my concerns.
01:38 This is why the United States should
01:42 call for an investigation of irregularities,
01:46 because the bottom line is the need to respect
01:49 the will of the people.
01:50 So Imran Khan's people still saying that Donald
01:52 Lu is the one who threatened his government in March 2022.
01:56 I disagree with the interpretation
01:58 of what Assistant Secretary Lew did.
02:00 I don't think he was in any way trying
02:03 to participate in throwing Imran Khan out of office.
02:08 That was not his intention.
02:11 I have been concerned, as I've expressed them.
02:13 That's why I think that the United States needs
02:15 to really insist on more transparency and more
