00:00:00 I get ice cream, I'm gonna do that as a protest tonight.
00:00:03 I'm gonna get ice cream by myself.
00:00:04 - I get it twice a week.
00:00:05 When I'm on vacation, I get it every day.
00:00:07 That's my rule.
00:00:08 I thought it was gonna be--
00:00:09 - Stay out of the ice cream takes, okay?
00:00:11 Because grown men do like to eat ice cream by themselves.
00:00:14 On today's part of my take, we have a twofer for the people.
00:00:20 We've got our good friend, Paul Bissonette.
00:00:23 We know we promised him last week.
00:00:24 He was an unhealthy scratch last week,
00:00:28 but he's here to catch up with us this week.
00:00:30 We also have Jay Billis, who's a recurring guest.
00:00:33 We talked to him about court storming college basketball.
00:00:37 Got a touch contentious at one point, which is fun,
00:00:40 but we found a common ground that we can all agree on.
00:00:43 And we're gonna talk a little combine.
00:00:45 We have Hot Seat, Cool Throne, and Pardon Your Take,
00:00:50 where listeners give us their takes.
00:00:52 And also Hank's number three Patriot.
00:00:55 I started watching last night.
00:00:56 - Oh, it's good, right?
00:00:57 - And we have some reviews as well.

00:02:57 did you hear about Robin Williams?
00:02:59 Host, no, me, died, he killed himself.

00:03:04 - RIP Peter King.
00:03:05 - Peter King has retired.
00:03:07 - One of the best tweets of all time.
00:03:09 Yeah.
00:03:10 - Yeah, you know where I was going with that.
00:03:11 I was thinking about what to lead the show with
00:03:13 'cause we're gonna talk court story with Jay Billis,
00:03:15 but Peter King is hanging up the pen?
00:03:17 - So he's hanging up the pen.
00:03:18 I don't know how long Peter's gonna be able
00:03:21 to hang the pen up for
00:03:22 because I was thinking about what Peter King's job is,
00:03:24 and that's basically, he watches football,
00:03:26 and then he gets on the phone,
00:03:27 and he talks to football coaches,
00:03:28 and then he writes things that football coaches tell him,
00:03:31 and, well, it's really a coffee column that he writes,
00:03:33 sprinkled in with occasional football anecdotes.
00:03:37 So I think that Peter is going to be walking away
00:03:40 from doing a weekly column.
00:03:42 It wouldn't shock me that he seems like the kind of guy
00:03:44 that's become such close friends with enough coaches.
00:03:47 Peter King might just become the next biographer
00:03:51 of football coaches.
00:03:52 - Yeah, I can see Andy Reid's biography.
00:03:53 - He's probably gonna write Andy Reid's biography.
00:03:55 - He actually, we should study Peter King in his retirement
00:04:00 because it will probably be not exactly apples to apples
00:04:05 when we someday hang it up,
00:04:07 but this is like when they release a whale into the wild
00:04:11 after it's been in captivity in a while.
00:04:13 I didn't mean to say whale 'cause of Peter King's weight,
00:04:15 but it works in this analogy.
00:04:17 And then the whale immediately dies
00:04:18 'cause I was used to just three square meals a day
00:04:22 and sitting in my tank.
00:04:23 So let's hope Peter King lives a long life after this
00:04:27 and he can find happiness outside of football
00:04:30 because we might just be staring at our future.
00:04:32 - I'm trying to follow this analogy.
00:04:33 So you're saying that Jim Ursa is going to pay
00:04:35 to fly Peter King's body across the country.
00:04:38 - Peter King's the whale.
00:04:39 - And then when Peter King hears about that, he'll die.
00:04:41 - Yes. - Okay, got it.
00:04:42 Yeah, I could see that.
00:04:44 I could also see Peter King just continuing
00:04:46 to write a column. - Yeah, to himself.
00:04:48 - And not getting paid for it.
00:04:50 And he's just like, I'm retired,
00:04:51 I don't have to do this every week.

00:04:54 - He just sends it out.
00:04:55 - So we've had our ups and downs
00:04:56 with Peter King on this podcast.
00:04:58 - Well, he still owes me money for the In-N-Out Burger.
00:05:00 - For the In-N-Out Burger.
00:05:01 - Plus interest, plus inflation.
00:05:02 - Peter King overall seems like a nice, weird old grandfather
00:05:07 and he's helped a lot of people out.
00:05:09 He's personally helped me out throughout the years.
00:05:12 I did a column making fun of his column
00:05:14 for about seven years.
00:05:16 And he's been overall a nice guy.
00:05:18 We had a little bit of a falling out a couple of years ago,
00:05:21 but Peter seems like the game,
00:05:24 he's going to miss the game exactly as much
00:05:27 as the game will miss him.
00:05:28 - Yeah, and I like Peter King for the most part.
00:05:32 He read him, I read his column in SI.
00:05:36 He, let's say this about Peter King,
00:05:38 he was able to bring SI to the internet
00:05:41 better than anyone else.
00:05:42 Like he made a column that was perfect for the internet
00:05:45 where it's like, what do I wanna do on Monday morning?
00:05:48 I don't wanna work.
00:05:49 Why not just read 45 minutes of Peter King's thoughts,
00:05:53 him emptying his notebook online.
00:05:55 So he was actually like ahead of his time
00:05:58 in the fact that he was able to basically take the SI mold
00:06:01 and then put it on the internet
00:06:02 and it worked on the internet.
00:06:04 Yeah, there was some times I think in the last few years
00:06:06 where Peter King maybe, I don't wanna say the W word,
00:06:09 but maybe he got a little woke and decided
00:06:11 that he was just gonna take sideways shots

00:06:27 a Double Double from In-N-Out with fries
00:06:29 and I think maybe a milkshake and he didn't pay me back.
00:06:33 So that's--
00:06:34 - As a journalist, you are not to accept
00:06:36 free meals from people.
00:06:37 - Let's just say this--
00:06:37 - And when he drove in the bike lane.
00:06:39 - And when he drove in the bike lane
00:06:40 and also when he said Darren Sharper,
00:06:42 no, yeah, Darren Sharper.
00:06:43 - He would vote for Darren Sharper for the Hall of Fame
00:06:45 regardless of what happened off the field.
00:06:47 Even though nobody was having the Darren Sharper
00:06:49 Hall of Fame conversation.
00:06:50 But if it happens, he is firmly in the condition.
00:06:54 You know what, if Riley Cooper was a better player,
00:06:56 Peter King would put him in the Hall of Fame.
00:06:58 - Yeah, listen, I, yeah, Peter King, I think,
00:07:01 it was an interesting pivot to get out of paying me $12.
00:07:05 But you pulled it off.

00:07:10 - Barstool.
00:07:11 - Bar, the, with the asterisks.
00:07:13 - One thing I always admired about Peter though
00:07:15 was his ability to write a column about football
00:07:17 that was honestly 90% not about football.
00:07:20 - Yeah.
00:07:20 - It would be about like, he was the originator.
00:07:22 We can actually trace the Skull Fucking Airline Company's
00:07:26 thing that Big Cat does online.
00:07:27 We can trace that back in a direct line
00:07:30 to Peter King complaining about hotels and airlines.
00:07:33 - Amtrak.
00:07:34 - In his weekly football column that he would write.
00:07:36 And he had such a hard on for any sort of travel
00:07:39 inconsistency, inconvenience, that he would turn it
00:07:42 into his own personal story.
00:07:44 - Yes.
00:07:44 - And then debt against these companies,
00:07:45 which then poisoned the youths of America
00:07:48 to think that the first thing that happens to them
00:07:50 when Marriott doesn't have two towels ready
00:07:52 in their hotel room.
00:07:53 - Correct.
00:07:54 - Is to go online and complain to Marriott.
00:07:55 - Correct.
00:07:56 And Peter King, again, hope he lives a long,
00:07:58 beautiful life in retirement.
00:07:59 But if he wants to, if his family wants to use this
00:08:01 as eulogy at some point, you can.
00:08:05 Clip this, you're free to use it.
00:08:06 I would say my final thought on Peter King,
00:08:09 good for the game of football,
00:08:11 even though he still owes me money for the In-N-Out burger.
00:08:13 - You know what we should do?
00:08:13 We should do a do haiku.
00:08:15 That's how he ended his columns,
00:08:16 was with a haiku every week.
00:08:18 - All right, I don't know how to do haikus,
00:08:20 let me start.
00:08:21 - Five syllables.
00:08:22 - All right, Peter King.
00:08:23 - Peter King, that's three.
00:08:24 - Okay.
00:08:26 - Owes.
00:08:26 - Owes.
00:08:27 - Owes.
00:08:29 - Cash.
00:08:30 - Cash.
00:08:30 - Peter King owes cash.
00:08:31 I'm sorry the beer had hops.
00:08:37 - And then is it one more?
00:08:40 - Yeah, then there's another five.

00:10:31 We had a bunch of coaches talk today.
00:10:34 Do we see anything?
00:10:35 - The Combine does feel like it's reached
00:10:38 its final iteration of just being everything sold out.
00:10:40 I saw the No Bull warmup zone that has it fully branded.
00:10:45 - It's pretty.
00:10:46 - Yeah, everyone, some players were complaining.
00:10:49 They're like, "We used to have to run in the hallways
00:10:51 "of hotels and have No Bull."
00:10:53 - It is crazy to think that just 30 years ago--
00:10:56 - Of No Bull.
00:10:57 - There would be nobody at all at the Combine.
00:10:59 It was like Scouts.
00:11:00 It was a time and an era when--
00:11:02 - Well, it was necessary then, too.
00:11:03 - Yeah, so Scouts coaches, assistant coaches,
00:11:07 they would look at this as being a little midwinter break
00:11:10 where we get to just get away from the family

00:12:32 where he has plenty of room to run.
00:12:34 - Exactly.
00:12:35 - They won't ask him to use his arm that much.
00:12:36 I saw that the commanders are aggressively
00:12:40 pursuing the number one pick.
00:12:42 - Oh.
00:12:42 - I also heard a rumor today,
00:12:44 I don't know, I probably won't say this on the air,
00:12:46 that we're considering a quarterback
00:12:48 that might have some history in D.C.
00:12:50 - Kirk Cousins.
00:12:51 - Which would be fantastic for the show.
00:12:54 It would be fantastic, that's all I'm gonna say.
00:12:57 That's actually the end of that sentence.
00:12:58 I wasn't gonna say anything at all after that.
00:13:00 That would be fantastic for the show.
00:13:01 - Also, shout out Brandon Beeney,
00:13:03 he had one of my favorite quotes today,
00:13:04 which was just pure honesty.
00:13:06 I just like whenever a guy just gives an honest take.
00:13:09 He said about the Josh Allen pick,
00:13:11 he said, "If he doesn't work out,
00:13:13 "I'm not gonna be here anyway,
00:13:14 "and if he does work out, nobody's gonna give a shit."
00:13:16 - Yep.
00:13:17 - That's how every GM should act.
00:13:18 - Yes.
00:13:19 (laughing)
00:13:19 Like seeing a guy throw in person,
00:13:21 you can see him at his pro day.
00:13:22 - Yeah.
00:13:23 - You've got a lot of tape on him.
00:13:24 I don't think that one night in Indy
00:13:26 isn't gonna make that much of a difference.
00:13:28 - One night in Indy.
00:13:29 - There you go with this quarterback.
00:13:30 - Not my favorite jerk off.
00:13:32 - There was another report,
00:13:33 I read this to you guys before we went on the air.
00:13:35 Big Dom was interviewed.
00:13:36 - Yes.
00:13:37 - By a reporter.
00:13:38 I don't know if he wants me to name him,
00:13:40 but he is a reputable reporter.
00:13:42 Asked Big Dom about our interaction in Vegas
00:13:45 when I saw Big Dom out on the town.
00:13:47 - Oh, this isn't public?
00:13:48 - It's not public.
00:13:50 - Oh.
00:13:50 - He said to me, he said, "You were just screaming his name.
00:13:53 "He was sweaty and drunk and I think high,
00:13:55 "but he was a cool dude."
00:13:56 That's Big Dom.
00:13:57 - Nailed it.
00:13:58 - That's Big Dom's recap of the interaction.
00:13:59 I gotta say, Big Dom should be a reporter
00:14:00 because those are facts.
00:14:02 - Also, we have followed up with Big Dom.
00:14:04 Read that quote again, the end of it.
00:14:07 - Okay, let's see.
00:14:09 He said, "Regarding his interaction with PFT commenter,
00:14:12 "he was sweaty and drunk and I think high,
00:14:15 "but he was a cool dude."
00:14:16 - Okay, so it turns out that the interview
00:14:19 that PFT secured in that moment is not legally binding.
00:14:22 - Maybe not.
00:14:23 Well, no, I was under the influence.
00:14:25 Unless Big Dom was on Mushrooms.
00:14:26 - It's true.
00:14:27 - The Mushrooms he was under would come on a cheese steak.
00:14:30 - He was smart enough to be like,
00:14:31 "Yeah, I'll just say I'll go on
00:14:32 "and then I'll never have to see this guy again."
00:14:34 - Probably, actually--
00:14:35 - We still will try to get him,
00:14:36 but we've made our first attempt and it came back nothing.
00:14:39 - Well, so I saw Big Dom later--
00:14:41 - What do we do for Mark Davis?
00:14:43 - Mark Davis, definitely there's--
00:14:45 - 'Cause we gotta act quick or else he's gonna forget.
00:14:47 - I hope there's just one person in the Raiders facility
00:14:50 who like every day just puts it on his to-do list
00:14:53 and he just passes right over it.
00:14:54 It's like, do that interview with those two weird guys
00:14:56 that tried to like stalk you.
00:14:58 - Just put it on the calendar.
00:14:59 - Yeah, put it on the calendar.
00:15:00 We'll just show up.
00:15:01 We will show up.
00:15:02 We will go, that's a promise that we will go in person
00:15:05 if Mark Davis agrees to an interview.
00:15:07 - We need what, you think six hours notice?
00:15:09 - Yeah.
00:15:10 - If that?
00:15:11 - If that.
00:15:12 - Gonna secure a boarding place for Blake.
00:15:15 - Well, we gotta get, also Hank only flies first class now.
00:15:18 - That's true.
00:15:19 - So we'd have to make sure there's first class tickets.
00:15:21 - And we gotta stop by Taco Bell
00:15:22 to get Max some stuff before he flies.
00:15:25 - But we're there, six hours.
00:15:27 - Yeah, there's plenty of Taco Bells on the way.
00:15:29 Max, you wanna tell the story that you told me
00:15:31 the other day about your Taco Bell adventure?
00:15:33 - Uh-oh.
00:15:34 - It's a very funny story.
00:15:35 - Oh yeah, this is.
00:15:36 - It's a good Max story.
00:15:38 - This week, Saturday was my girlfriend
00:15:43 and I's two year anniversary.
00:15:44 - Nice, congratulations Max.
00:15:46 - Yep, yep, of dating.
00:15:47 - One night in Indy?
00:15:48 - No.
00:15:49 I had a couple bed breaks.
00:15:51 - I heard it on my last Saturday,
00:15:51 you spent it by watching Bill and Noah.
00:15:53 - That is correct.
00:15:54 - Oh, it was.
00:15:55 - This is the same.
00:15:56 - It was this Saturday.
00:15:56 - This is the same night.
00:15:57 - Oh, okay, well again, we've told the story,
00:15:59 but your first date with her was when Jay Wright
00:16:02 stepped down, so she's expecting this.
00:16:03 - Yeah, yeah.
00:16:04 So I got home, I FaceTimed her.
00:16:07 - After the Yukon Villanova game.
00:16:10 - After the Yukon Villanova game.
00:16:11 - Oh my God.
00:16:11 - Nothing like a nice romantic.
00:16:13 - Oh my God.
00:16:14 - A romantic post-Villanova FaceTime loss.
00:16:17 - I ordered Taco Bell, ended up.
00:16:19 - For her?
00:16:20 - No, well, I ended up ordering it to her apartment
00:16:24 instead of mine.
00:16:25 - So you did?
00:16:26 - So we were, while we were FaceTiming,
00:16:30 I don't necessarily remember this conversation,
00:16:32 I had a couple beverages, she was like.
00:16:35 - Couple means two.
00:16:36 - Yep.
00:16:37 She was like, yeah, you just played it off,
00:16:40 like you got me Taco Bell for our anniversary.
00:16:42 (laughing)
00:16:43 And then.
00:16:44 - She would probably take offense to that,
00:16:46 'cause you probably got like 17 Tacos.
00:16:48 - That's true.
00:16:49 - It was a grilled cheese burrito
00:16:52 and a cheesy gordita crunch.
00:16:53 - Good order.
00:16:54 - So then the first one gets there
00:16:56 and then 20 minutes later, she gets another knock at her door.
00:16:59 - Oh no, you tried to order it again?
00:17:01 - I tried to order it for myself after the second,
00:17:04 after the first one was hers.
00:17:06 So she got the same order twice.
00:17:10 - That's the most.
00:17:10 - You go for three?
00:17:11 - Sunday morning, I did end up ordering Taco Bell.
00:17:15 - The fact that she like, I assume she took that like okay,
00:17:19 'cause she knows you very well.
00:17:20 - No, she liked it.
00:17:21 - She's a keeper, she's a keeper.
00:17:23 That's ride or die, to have double Taco Bell
00:17:26 on your anniversary show.
00:17:27 - It's the most romantic gift you could get a woman.
00:17:29 - Well, to be fair, I got her,
00:17:30 it was because it was on Uber Eats, almost anything.
00:17:33 I sent her flowers in the morning.
00:17:36 So it was the most recent address on my Uber Eats.
00:17:41 - A true romantic.
00:17:43 - Yes, yes.
00:17:43 - Did you get her anything to drink?
00:17:46 - No, she was, but yesterday I was talking to her
00:17:48 and she was like, by the way,
00:17:50 I threw out one of those grilled cheese burritos.
00:17:53 - Oh no, were you hurt?
00:17:56 How could you throw out a love present like that?
00:18:00 - There's no worse feeling in the world
00:18:02 than ordering something that you're very excited for
00:18:05 and you wait and you wait
00:18:06 and then it goes to the wrong place.
00:18:08 That's such a bad, bad feeling.
00:18:09 - Yeah, I didn't need it at that moment though.
00:18:11 I'm happy, I didn't get it.
00:18:12 - Yeah, you're lighter for it.
00:18:13 - That's good though, you got all the endorphins
00:18:17 of ordering Taco Bell, but you didn't get the calories.
00:18:20 - Exactly, it was perfect.
00:18:21 - That's the idea for a new app.
00:18:23 One that just sends your least healthy orders
00:18:26 to the wrong address on purpose.
00:18:27 - That actually, no, or just you order it
00:18:30 but it just never comes.
00:18:31 - Yeah.
00:18:32 - That's like my idea for a gambling app
00:18:35 where you put in your bet
00:18:37 and it just reverses it without telling you.
00:18:38 - You order it but it goes to a food bank.
00:18:41 - Yeah. - By accident.
00:18:42 - Yeah. - Every time.
00:18:43 - Yeah.
00:18:44 Okay, Hank, do you wanna give us your number three patriot?
00:18:48 So I watched the first three episodes
00:18:50 and I have to agree with you, Hank,
00:18:54 or maybe it was Jerry Thornton's blog,
00:18:56 that was very bizarre.
00:18:57 - The yada yada.
00:18:59 - They spent all this time on Bill Parcells and Drew Bledsoe
00:19:03 and they're like, and we got addicted to winning
00:19:05 and then we won two more.
00:19:07 I was like, wait, what?
00:19:07 - Yeah, when Teddy Brewski's like,
00:19:09 you know the first time somebody mentioned
00:19:11 the word dynastomy, it was like a narcotic.
00:19:14 - Yeah. - My eyes got wide.
00:19:15 That's the only thing I was focused on.
00:19:17 Then we beat the Panthers.
00:19:18 And then we won another Super Bowl against the Eagles.
00:19:20 And that was all that you had from that.
00:19:22 - It also would've been nice--
00:19:23 - There was so much lore.
00:19:24 - Yeah, it also would've been nice
00:19:26 if they had gotten maybe a little more
00:19:28 into the game plan of the Super Bowl
00:19:30 that they beat the Rams.
00:19:30 'Cause that was a pretty crazy upset.
00:19:34 Mike Martz looking fat.
00:19:37 - Yeah, it makes me happy.
00:19:39 - He's a bit older.
00:19:40 - And it's slanted 'cause even in that,
00:19:42 they brought Mike Martz on just to be like,
00:19:44 well, they were being cheap.
00:19:45 Like they were doing the little,
00:19:46 you know, hold 'em and foul 'em.
00:19:49 They're not gonna call it.
00:19:50 - But it is, but you have to know
00:19:51 that this whole entire documentary
00:19:54 is so that Bob Kraft can get into the Hall of Fame.
00:19:56 - How would he not get in the Hall of Fame?
00:19:59 - Well, he's not yet.
00:20:00 I don't think they just let owners in very often.
00:20:02 I mean, Jerry Jones had to wait a while.
00:20:05 Like he wants to get in the Hall of Fame before he passes.
00:20:06 - He has six Super Bowls.
00:20:07 - I understand, but Jerry Jones didn't get in the Hall of Fame
00:20:10 'til what, two years ago?
00:20:11 - To me, this tells me that Robert Kraft
00:20:13 has acknowledged the fact that the Patriots
00:20:15 will not make another Super Bowl in the next five years,
00:20:17 and his only way to chase that glory
00:20:19 is to have this documentary made get into the Hall of Fame.
00:20:23 - The behind-the-scenes stuff is cool.
00:20:24 Seeing young Brady is crazy.
00:20:25 - Yeah, it-- - You just think of him
00:20:27 as like-- - He was such a,
00:20:28 I love how, I love his roommate,
00:20:30 like the stories when he was just like, he was a psycho.
00:20:33 - Yeah, also, the best moment in the first three episodes
00:20:37 is when he told, Brady told the story
00:20:40 about after winning the Super Bowl
00:20:41 and Belichick got in the car and was like,
00:20:43 you had a pretty good year.
00:20:44 - Yeah. (laughing)
00:20:45 Yeah, that was his way.
00:20:46 - That was awesome. - That was his way
00:20:47 of saying congrats.
00:20:48 Also, what a psycho Brady was to live with as like a rookie
00:20:51 when he was playing Tecmo, Tecmo Bowl,
00:20:54 and he would just unplug the entire system
00:20:57 if he was losing.
00:20:58 Genuine psychopath that loves winning.
00:21:00 Also, he's got a lot more hair now.
00:21:01 That's interesting, I thought.
00:21:02 - He's better looking. - Yeah, it's kinda crazy.
00:21:05 - Yeah, so, Hank, with that said, number three.
00:21:10 Number three, you just mentioned him a couple times.
00:21:13 Heart and soul of the defense,
00:21:16 although there's so-- - Oh, another white guy.
00:21:18 - So many good defensive players on that team.
00:21:20 - So, we've got Jules at number four,
00:21:22 and then your defensive player is going to be Italian.
00:21:27 - Inspirational. - Is he Italian?
00:21:30 - I think so. - Oh.
00:21:32 - Comeback player of the year 2005.
00:21:33 I remember thinking like he was never gonna play again
00:21:36 when he had his medical issues,
00:21:38 and he came back one player,
00:21:40 comeback player of the year, legend, Teddy Bruschi.
00:21:43 - Teddy Bruschi, yeah. - Ooh.
00:21:45 - Oh, yeah, he's Italian, I don't know why.
00:21:47 - Real perverted. - Yeah.
00:21:48 - Badonia Italy.
00:21:50 - Wait, he's from Italy?
00:21:51 - No, his paternal grandparents.
00:21:53 Oh, his mother is of Filipino ancestry.
00:21:57 - Oh, interesting. - Yeah.
00:21:59 Yeah, old time name.
00:22:00 - I have a lot of people getting mad at me for this list.
00:22:02 Arnie and I would just like to say I don't care.
00:22:05 This is my list.
00:22:05 - Sounds like you might care a little
00:22:07 if you have to address it.
00:22:07 - Are the people that are getting mad at you
00:22:09 your friends that you debated with?
00:22:10 - Are the people getting mad at you?
00:22:11 Yeah, are they in this room with you right now?
00:22:13 - No, no, it's just people online being like,
00:22:16 this person's not on this list.
00:22:18 - Well, tune in, you'll find out.
00:22:19 - The list is subjective, and it's my favorite Patriots.
00:22:22 - It is awesome that a Patriots player was named Bruschi,
00:22:24 just like, you get all the fans chanting that.
00:22:26 - Ooh, yeah.
00:22:28 Yeah, I mean, they do it all the time,
00:22:30 but I just remember when they beat the Dolphins in the snow
00:22:32 and he got a pick six and they started throwing the snow.
00:22:35 - Yeah. - Old time vibes.
00:22:36 - What about honorable mention?
00:22:37 - Ooh.
00:22:40 You don't have one?
00:22:40 - This is the easiest task.
00:22:41 - Kevin Falk.
00:22:42 (laughing)
00:22:43 - Okay.
00:22:44 You remember when Kevin Falk beat up that kid at LSU?
00:22:47 That was awesome. - Yeah.
00:22:49 - Kevin Falk was--
00:22:50 - Yeah, another like the Cam Newton thing,
00:22:52 another, hey, maybe don't try to fight professional athletes.
00:22:54 - I would say actually Kevin Falk and Cam Newton
00:22:57 are very, very high up on the list of any professional
00:23:00 athlete that you don't wanna fuck with.
00:23:01 - Really, really bad idea.
00:23:03 - Legend, on the team forever.
00:23:05 Mr. Consistent.
00:23:06 - Yep.
00:23:07 Okay, anything else before we do Hot Seat, Cool Throne?
00:23:11 - Any more white guys you wanna shout out?
00:23:13 - Kevin Falk, not white.
00:23:16 Kyle Long.
00:23:17 - Shout out Kyle Long.
00:23:19 - Just 'cause?
00:23:20 - He replied in a weird tweet
00:23:22 when they posted the Chris Long quote.
00:23:25 - What'd he say?
00:23:25 - It was just like a gif, I didn't understand it,
00:23:27 but shout out to him.
00:23:28 - Oh, okay.
00:23:29 - Well, she was a patriot.
00:23:30 - Made you think.
00:23:31 - Yeah. - Yeah.
00:23:32 - He could've been. - Got you thinking.
00:23:33 - Could've been a patriot.
00:23:35 - Okay, let's do Hot Seat, Cool Throne,
00:23:37 then we got double interviews for the people.
00:23:39 Hot Seat, Cool Throne's brought to you
00:23:42 by our friends at Coors Light.
00:23:45 Hot Seat, Cool Throne is presented by Coors Light.
00:23:47 From day-to-day annoyances to the big stuff,
00:23:48 life throws your way, it's easy to get worked up.
00:23:51 But there's a better way, a chiller way,
00:23:53 turn that canceled concert into a parking lot dance party.
00:23:56 Too cold for an ocean swim?
00:23:58 Play volleyball and light a bonfire instead.
00:24:00 That's choosing chill, and when you choose chill,
00:24:03 reach for a Coors Light.
00:24:03 When the mountains turn blue, it's as cold as the Rockies.
00:24:07 When you choose to rise above it all,
00:24:08 choose chill, choose Coors Light.
00:24:10 Get Coors Light delivered straight to your door

00:24:16 Coors Brewing Company, Golden, Colorado.
00:24:18 Coors Light, the most delicious beer in the world.
00:24:21 Hank, your Hot Seat, Cool Throne.
00:24:24 - My Hot Seat is the Masters Field.
00:24:27 - Uh-oh. - Okay.
00:24:29 - Brooks's teammate on Smash, Taylor Gooch,
00:24:32 was interviewed because he does not have
00:24:35 any exemptions to majors 'cause he hasn't won one,
00:24:37 so he is, and he didn't get an invite to the Masters.
00:24:40 So he was interviewed about it, and he said,
00:24:43 "There's going to be an asterisk.
00:24:45 "It's just a reality."
00:24:46 - Oh. - That Taylor Gooch wasn't.
00:24:48 - Taylor Gooch, we'll always remember it
00:24:49 as the Masters that didn't have Taylor Gooch.
00:24:51 - The Gooch-less Masters. - Okay.
00:24:52 - So that's-- - Is he the only good player
00:24:54 like that you would think of that's not gonna be in it?
00:24:58 - There's a couple, but I mean, a lot of,
00:24:59 I think there's like 12 or 13 live guys.
00:25:02 They had Joaquin Neiman got invited
00:25:04 'cause the Masters couldn't invite whoever they want.
00:25:06 - Look at you just dropping names.
00:25:08 - Joaquin.
00:25:08 - Real dimple head.
00:25:10 - The Masters can invite whoever they want.
00:25:13 - Yeah, they could invite you.
00:25:14 - Yeah, I could play in the Masters.
00:25:16 - They should invite you.
00:25:17 - So that's where he kind of even has less
00:25:18 of a hill to stand on 'cause, and then--
00:25:22 - Less of a hill to stand on, I like that.
00:25:24 - Is that high ground? - Yeah.
00:25:27 - Hill to die on.
00:25:28 - Okay, yeah. - Soapbox to stand on.
00:25:31 - Less of a point to stand on, yeah.
00:25:34 I guess hill to stand on, that works.
00:25:36 - I mean, I'm not a world-renowned smart person.
00:25:38 You can wait 'til the Jay Billis interview
00:25:40 where he tries to just cut me up with words.
00:25:43 - I hate that. - Yeah.
00:25:44 - I hate words. - I felt like you.
00:25:45 - Is Charlie invited?
00:25:47 - No. - He should be.
00:25:48 - Well, then asterisks.
00:25:49 I agree with Taylor Gooch.
00:25:51 John Daly?
00:25:52 - I don't think so.
00:25:54 I think his exemptions, but he had,
00:25:57 he's not, you know, whatever it is,
00:25:59 top 100, top 50, and he definitely hasn't won a major
00:26:02 in a recent enough time.
00:26:04 - Asterisks.
00:26:06 - Sure, yeah, Taylor Gooch.
00:26:07 If Taylor Gooch was there, he would,
00:26:08 that's a, Augusta's a poor 67.
00:26:10 - It's just tough when people,
00:26:11 then they post his records and majors, and it's like--
00:26:14 - Didn't show. - Yeah.
00:26:16 - But it is kinda like, that's the dream,
00:26:17 is to just have that big of an excuse built in
00:26:20 for why you're not there.
00:26:22 It's like, they're afraid of me.
00:26:23 - It would rock. - But also 13 live players.
00:26:25 - It would rock if Max won the Masters this year.
00:26:27 - Yeah.
00:26:28 - I don't think he won the match.
00:26:30 - He didn't. - Oh.
00:26:32 He didn't win the match.
00:26:33 - Who'd he play against? - Rory?
00:26:35 - Rory, Lexi Thompson, and Rose Zhang.
00:26:37 However, Max got closest to the pin
00:26:39 on one of the par threes, which means $100,000 to charity.
00:26:42 - Good job, Max. - Oh, nice.
00:26:43 - Good guy, Max. - Yep.
00:26:45 - That, we should get credit for that as well.
00:26:47 - Yeah.
00:26:48 - Just, that $100,000 is coming from Max and us.
00:26:50 - Mm-hmm. - Mm-hmm.
00:26:52 Okay.
00:26:53 - We have donated $100,000 to charity.
00:26:55 - Yeah, cool truck.
00:26:56 - Cinema.
00:26:57 - Oh.
00:26:58 - Cinema's back.
00:26:59 - Oh.
00:27:00 - An American saga, Kevin Costner, apparently,
00:27:04 funded this movie himself.
00:27:05 He couldn't, you know, get backing for it,
00:27:07 so he took the money, made the movie himself.
00:27:09 I saw reports, you know, months ago,
00:27:11 or almost longer ago, that he was putting it out,
00:27:15 it's gonna be four movies, which seems excessive.
00:27:18 - That's homework.
00:27:19 - They put the trailer out.
00:27:20 - Are they coming out all at once,
00:27:21 or are they coming out like year by year by year?
00:27:22 - No, it's smart.
00:27:24 I think it's end of June, end of August.
00:27:26 - Oh. - Oh, I'm kinda into that.
00:27:28 - So we could binge it, kind of.
00:27:29 - The trailer looks so good.
00:27:31 I watched the trailer. - What's it called?
00:27:32 - An American saga, Kevin Costner.
00:27:34 - Horizon, maybe?
00:27:35 I just watched the trailer, Hank had me look it up.
00:27:36 It follows the theme of Kevin Costner's career recently.
00:27:39 - Oh, it's Horizon, American saga.
00:27:41 - Where Kevin Costner has just turned his entire life
00:27:44 into making movies where he gets to ride horses.
00:27:46 And so he's just lived, like, in Wyoming, Utah, Montana,
00:27:51 and he just only does films
00:27:53 that are based in those locations.
00:27:54 - But, like, Yellowstone's-- - Which is the dream.
00:27:56 - Yellowstone's got a little bit of, like,
00:27:57 the drama and kind of, like, the,
00:27:59 this looks like just a straight Western.
00:28:02 - Okay, I'm in. - Yes.
00:28:03 - I like a good Western.
00:28:04 - Yeah, I mean, I've watched the show, like, six times.
00:28:06 Looks amazing. - Whoa.
00:28:07 - Cinema's back, and apparently Dune, too, is good.
00:28:10 But I don't know. - What?
00:28:12 I know, but for people at home, what is Dune?
00:28:15 - It is a science fiction movie.
00:28:18 - This is a, it's a-- - What is it about?
00:28:19 - It's a sequel of a remake.
00:28:21 - Was it a video game?
00:28:23 - I think they did make a video game at some point about it.
00:28:25 - Okay, that's one of those ones
00:28:26 that I just have missed every single piece of it.
00:28:29 So when I see Dune II, I'm like, they're still doing it?
00:28:32 - I always thought that they're saying Doom II,
00:28:35 which I'm all in for.
00:28:36 - Doom was a video game.
00:28:37 - Doom was a great video game.
00:28:38 - Yeah, all right, that's where the confusion is.
00:28:40 - Uh-huh, Doom, the BFG 9000.
00:28:42 - Okay, that makes sense.
00:28:43 Dune is back, again.
00:28:46 - I'll see it soon.
00:28:47 - How many are there?
00:28:48 - This is the second one.
00:28:49 - Oh. - I think it's the last one.
00:28:51 - Oh, okay, good.
00:28:51 - Am I gonna be lost if I watch Dune II
00:28:53 and have not seen Dune the original or Dune the new one?
00:28:57 - You should watch the new one, I think.
00:28:59 I'm sure everyone already remembers this,
00:29:01 but Dune was the reason I blew my back out originally.
00:29:06 - Oh, that's right, yeah, I remember that.
00:29:07 - I was trying to go see Dune.
00:29:08 - This is the one, this is the movie with Baby Yoda, right?
00:29:11 - Yeah, Groku.
00:29:12 - Yeah, but some say that--
00:29:13 - Roku, Roku.
00:29:14 - Roku, the Baby Yoda.
00:29:15 - Will I be lost if I never watch any of the Dunes?
00:29:19 - No, I think you'll be fine.
00:29:20 - Okay, so I'm gonna--
00:29:21 - You haven't even seen Star Wars.
00:29:22 - Correct.
00:29:23 - So.
00:29:24 - I think there's lots of walking in Dune.
00:29:26 - Oh, what?
00:29:27 I'll just watch Frank Walks.
00:29:28 By the way, watch Frank Walks today.
00:29:32 Very special guest.
00:29:33 Very special guest, Frank Walks.
00:29:36 - You guys?
00:29:37 - No, better.
00:29:39 Bleep it out.
00:29:40 (beep)
00:29:41 - Ooh.
00:29:42 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:29:46 It's gonna be an awesome walk.
00:29:47 - Next up.
00:29:48 (beep)
00:29:48 - Well, bleep that out too,
00:29:50 'cause that will give away the first one.
00:29:53 Okay, good job, hot seat, cool throw.
00:29:54 Thanks.
00:29:55 - Good job, Hank.
00:29:56 - Thanks.
00:29:57 - My hot seat is Wendy's customers.
00:30:00 - Yeah.
00:30:00 - Wendy's fast food customers.
00:30:01 - This is crazy.
00:30:02 - Wendy's is toying with the idea
00:30:04 of surge pricing on their menu.
00:30:06 Actually, they're not toying with it.
00:30:07 They are going to implement surge pricing
00:30:10 in an experiment to see if they can get away
00:30:12 with charging people more money during heavy usage hours.
00:30:15 So in other words--
00:30:16 - Max would be--
00:30:17 - I kinda like this.
00:30:17 - Lunch and dinner.
00:30:19 Why would you like this?
00:30:21 - Okay, I have a question,
00:30:22 because will it work both ways,
00:30:25 or can it only go up?
00:30:26 - So if it goes down at weird times, that's cool.
00:30:28 - That's so--
00:30:29 - It should just be their normal menu prices,
00:30:32 and then they dip in the off times.
00:30:35 But no, they're gonna raise the prices during heavy usage.
00:30:38 - In Madison, State Street Brats
00:30:39 used to do stock market night,
00:30:41 where if everyone's buying a Coors Light,
00:30:45 the price goes up for a Coors Light.
00:30:46 If no one's buying a Rumpelmintz, the price goes down.
00:30:49 It was awesome.
00:30:50 You just watched the big board,
00:30:51 and you're like, "Oh shit,
00:30:53 "Rumpelmintz shots are 50 cents right now.
00:30:55 "Go up and buy it, and then it goes back up."
00:30:57 If that's what they're doing, I'm in,
00:30:59 because then you can get some great deals.
00:31:01 - I think it's just about how many--
00:31:01 - It's just going up, yeah, yeah.
00:31:02 - How many people are gonna be there.
00:31:03 - Yeah, then that's bullshit.
00:31:04 - They're not gonna drop it down.
00:31:05 This stinks.
00:31:07 They're just gonna charge more money.
00:31:09 And I don't think they're gonna be like,
00:31:10 "Oh, the Baconator is reduced in price at this time.
00:31:14 "The Spicy Chicken Sandwich--"
00:31:15 - But you agree that would rule.
00:31:17 - I think it'd be cool if they just kept the prices
00:31:19 and dropped them at like three o'clock in the afternoon.
00:31:21 - But just keep them just at the dinner time, rush hour.
00:31:26 The prices go up, but if you're like Max,
00:31:29 and you're thinking about getting a lovely present
00:31:31 for your girlfriend, and it's 2 a.m.,
00:31:33 and Villanova just got the shit kicked out of him by UConn,
00:31:36 boom, a Baconator is $1.25.
00:31:39 - Yeah, I'm just not on board with this,
00:31:41 'cause it feels like there's a slippery slope.
00:31:43 If Wendy's is the one, correct me if I'm wrong,
00:31:45 but Wendy's hasn't been killing it recently, right?
00:31:47 - Have you ever seen Wendy?
00:31:49 - The person? - Yeah.
00:31:52 - Like the ginger? - Yeah.
00:31:53 - The logo? - Oh, who is like,
00:31:57 the derivative, 'cause it's Dave Thomas' granddaughter?
00:32:00 - Yeah, are you talking about the actual Wendy?
00:32:02 - Yeah. - Yeah, I have seen her.
00:32:03 - Very handsome. - Yeah.
00:32:04 - Very handsome young lady. - She is.
00:32:06 (laughing)
00:32:08 - Tough, good thing they did the cartoon.
00:32:10 - My Cool Throne, bonkless.
00:32:12 - No, that's not, no, that's anti-bonk!
00:32:15 Hank, it's a fucking child, and she was,
00:32:19 - Oh man. - Tough to look at.
00:32:22 - She'd be a great rugby player.
00:32:24 - I think she grew up to be fine looking, but yeah.
00:32:26 They did the cartoon well.
00:32:28 - He's like, my daughter loves hamburgers so much,
00:32:31 I'm gonna put her as the logo of a hamburger place.
00:32:33 - She's like a softball catcher.
00:32:36 - A lot of power. - Real life Wendy.
00:32:39 Oh, well no, I'm talking about, yeah, yeah, there you go.
00:32:44 That's not the bonkless, Hank.
00:32:46 Please take me off of her right now.
00:32:48 - I think they screwed up the Pantone.
00:32:49 - I think they did, they took some liberties.
00:32:51 - Yeah. - They took a lot of liberties.
00:32:53 - My Cool Throne is Uganda. - Yes!
00:32:55 - Because Last Chance Uganda, the football portion,
00:32:58 is premiering tonight, Wednesday at 8 p.m. Eastern.
00:33:02 You can find it on the Wonton Don's YouTube page.
00:33:04 This is Billy and Donny coaching
00:33:07 the Uganda national football team.
00:33:08 - Sponsored by Part of My Cheese Steak.
00:33:10 - Sponsored by Part of My Cheese Steak
00:33:11 in their upcoming bout at the time against Kenya.
00:33:14 Who knows what happened.
00:33:15 I think we all forgot by this time.
00:33:17 But they have a game against Kenya,
00:33:18 so this is Billy and Donny meeting the team,
00:33:21 meeting the administrators of the Uganda Football Federation
00:33:25 and installing whatever semblance of offense
00:33:27 they tried to install. - I'm excited.
00:33:29 - I saw Donny tweet, 'cause we had the combine yesterday,
00:33:32 and Billy was doing Billy things across the board.
00:33:35 - Yeah, it was a banner day for Billy.
00:33:37 - And he replied to one of the clips and said,
00:33:39 "It seems like Billy's turned himself
00:33:40 "into the villain of the Barstow Combine.
00:33:42 "However, I'm trying to make him the hero
00:33:44 "of Last Chance Uganda, and this is not helping."
00:33:46 (laughing)
00:33:47 - The Billy tweet, so the combine was yesterday.
00:33:49 If you didn't watch, we have it all.
00:33:51 You can watch it anywhere on the Barstow Sports
00:33:53 main channels.
00:33:54 I'm very sore from it.
00:33:55 Billy tweeted afterwards, or today,
00:33:57 "Realizing working yourself up
00:33:59 "into a stimulant-driven manic state
00:34:01 "in order to shave milliseconds off a 35-yard dash
00:34:03 "and get extra reps of 135 pounds on the bench press
00:34:06 "was really not worth it because you come off
00:34:08 "as an absolute asshole to everyone around you
00:34:10 "and you become a person you kinda really
00:34:12 "don't wanna be."
00:34:13 There was no punctuation in that,
00:34:15 so I did read that correctly.
00:34:16 And then I just saw one person reply,
00:34:19 "What about paintball?"
00:34:21 (laughing)
00:34:22 Good point.
00:34:23 - No, Billy's excuse list so far has included
00:34:26 the fact that he took too many stimulants beforehand,
00:34:28 which I will defend Billy on.
00:34:30 He did absolutely take way too many stimulants
00:34:32 before and during the combine.
00:34:35 The other excuse that was my favorite,
00:34:37 maybe my favorite Billy excuse of all time,
00:34:39 and God knows we've heard a lot of 'em,
00:34:42 after the bench press, how many,
00:34:43 did Billy put up, like, 40?
00:34:45 Which is a pretty impressive--
00:34:46 - He said he was gonna do 50 or he'd die.
00:34:48 - 50 or die.
00:34:49 He said, "If I don't get 50, shoot me."
00:34:52 So he did 40, and then after he got done,
00:34:54 he was so mad, his excuse was,
00:34:58 it was too light.
00:34:59 - Too light.
00:35:00 - It was too light.
00:35:01 If the weight had been heavier,
00:35:01 he would've been able to demonstrate his strength more
00:35:04 because other people would not have been able
00:35:05 to lift as much.
00:35:06 - Correct.
00:35:07 - And so then he would've gotten more reps
00:35:09 than Will Compton.
00:35:10 - And he also, in the vertical,
00:35:12 when you have to test your vertical
00:35:13 and you get it set to a certain height
00:35:15 by raising your arm over your head,
00:35:17 he said he couldn't raise his arm all the way
00:35:19 because of his shoulder,
00:35:20 and then continued to do the vertical
00:35:23 and raise his arm as high as he possibly could,
00:35:25 and then before the QB portion
00:35:27 was like doing windmills with his shoulder.
00:35:28 - Well, we saw the impact that the shoulder had
00:35:30 on his throwing accuracy.
00:35:31 - Yeah, that's true.
00:35:32 - Which is true.
00:35:33 Yeah, my second favorite Billy clip
00:35:34 from the combine yesterday
00:35:35 was when he was attempting to do the vertical,
00:35:38 and he was mad for, I don't,
00:35:39 because we tried to tell him
00:35:40 you have to lift your hand all the way up.
00:35:41 - You have to straighten your arm,
00:35:42 which everyone did.
00:35:43 - And so then he jumped up in the air
00:35:44 and he knocked the entire device over,
00:35:47 the measuring device,
00:35:48 and then it hit the ground
00:35:50 and then he blamed Francis for not catching it.
00:35:52 - Yeah.
00:35:53 - That, it was a--
00:35:53 - It was a banner day.
00:35:54 - It was a tremendous day for Billy football content.
00:35:57 But I do think that Last Chance Uganda
00:35:59 is gonna be awesome.
00:36:00 It's a great storyline that they have
00:36:01 going over there, teaching Uganda football players
00:36:04 how to play football and all the stuff behind the scenes,
00:36:06 and anything Donnie does, autoclick for me.
00:36:08 - Yep.
00:36:09 - It's the favorite graphic we've ever made.
00:36:10 - Yep.
00:36:11 - I will post it again today.
00:36:12 It's--
00:36:13 - It's very, very good.
00:36:14 - It's just so funny.
00:36:14 - I'm excited.
00:36:15 And the fact that we've got--
00:36:16 - Bringing cheesesteaks to Africa.
00:36:17 - Yeah.
00:36:18 - Yeah.
00:36:19 - That's why we started the cheesesteak business.
00:36:20 - We should have just taken all the footage
00:36:21 and then done our own interviews,
00:36:23 like we're Bob Craft, to make us look good.
00:36:25 - Oh.
00:36:26 - That's what we should have done.
00:36:26 - Yeah, we should have.
00:36:27 - But yeah, very excited to watch Last Chance Uganda.
00:36:29 - All right, my hot seat is ice cream,
00:36:32 but not really ice cream, it's Clay Travis.
00:36:33 So Joe Biden likes ice cream,
00:36:35 and this is not to get political because--
00:36:37 - Is that a code name, like pizza?
00:36:38 - No, it's not.
00:36:40 I guess he was eating ice cream
00:36:42 while talking about the Middle East,
00:36:44 which, yeah, probably not the appropriate time,
00:36:46 but whatever, he's eating ice cream.
00:36:49 I like this because Clay has obviously,
00:36:52 he's very heavy into politics,
00:36:54 and whenever someone who's heavy into politics,
00:36:57 they can make one little mistake
00:36:59 where they're like, show that they're so out of touch
00:37:02 with regular America.
00:37:03 - They get high on their own supply sometimes.
00:37:04 - Right, it's, you know, what was it,
00:37:07 whenever someone, was it Ted Cruz said the basketball goal?
00:37:10 - Yeah. - Something like that.
00:37:11 - Basketball ring, maybe? - Ring, yeah.
00:37:12 So Clay tweeted, "Joe Biden eating ice cream
00:37:15 "while answering reporter questions
00:37:16 "about serious issues isn't charming.
00:37:18 "It's super weird.
00:37:19 "Do you know grown men who go get ice cream by themselves?
00:37:23 "I don't, it's very strange."
00:37:25 - Yeah, I do.
00:37:26 - All the time.
00:37:27 - I do quite a bit.
00:37:28 - Literally all the time.
00:37:29 I get ice cream, I'm gonna do that as a protest tonight.
00:37:32 I'm gonna get ice cream by myself.
00:37:34 I get it twice a week.
00:37:35 When I'm on vacation, I get it every day, that's my rule.
00:37:39 - Ice cream by yourself is actually great.
00:37:39 - Like ice cream stores?
00:37:41 - Yeah, if I see an ice cream store,
00:37:43 just pop in Pint Guys.
00:37:44 - Dude, I used to go, when we lived in New York
00:37:47 and I was in Dumbo in Brooklyn,
00:37:49 there was like probably four ice cream trucks
00:37:51 that would just sit on various corners.
00:37:53 And I'd be like, oh, I gotta go take Stell out,
00:37:55 go get a fucking cone by myself.
00:37:57 - Yeah, ice cream rocks.
00:37:58 There is a place called The Ice Cream Store too.
00:38:00 - Yeah. - I hit that up quite a bit.
00:38:01 - But this is like--
00:38:02 - I thought it was gonna be--
00:38:03 - Stay out of the ice cream takes, okay?
00:38:05 Because grown men do like to eat ice cream by themselves.
00:38:08 - Was it one of those things where it's like a cone,
00:38:10 so it's phallic?
00:38:11 It's like, why are you as a man sucking down a cone of ice?
00:38:13 - I love ice cream cones.
00:38:14 He also wasn't by himself.
00:38:16 He was with a bunch of people
00:38:16 'cause I don't think Joe Biden can go anywhere by himself.
00:38:18 - Well, he might wander off.
00:38:19 - Legally, he's not allowed to.
00:38:21 And then Clay Travis had to basically,
00:38:24 everyone was like, dude, what's wrong with ice cream?
00:38:26 Why are you going after ice cream?
00:38:28 And he, on his radio show later, or today,
00:38:32 said, started the sentence,
00:38:33 "I'm not claiming that I'm anti-ice cream."
00:38:36 That's it, dude.
00:38:37 If you have to say that, you're anti-ice cream.
00:38:38 - Yeah, no, if you said that,
00:38:39 you're on the losing side of an argument.
00:38:41 - Yeah, if you have to start a political radio show
00:38:44 with, "I'm not claiming to be anti-ice cream,"
00:38:46 you're anti-ice cream.
00:38:47 - So it was his gripe that he was eating ice cream
00:38:50 at the wrong time?
00:38:50 Because if so, I can't imagine a president
00:38:53 talking about some sort of Middle East foreign policy
00:38:55 while doing a leisurely activity
00:38:57 and then ending it with something like,
00:38:59 "Now watch this drive."
00:39:00 - Yeah, yeah.
00:39:02 I mean, the fact of the matter is,
00:39:03 when you're president, you just get asked questions
00:39:04 about everything all the time. - And you just do it.
00:39:05 Yeah, you do your regular things.
00:39:06 - I'm sure that there have been some presidents,
00:39:08 LBJ probably, that have done press conferences
00:39:10 or phone calls while taking a shit.
00:39:12 - Yeah.
00:39:13 - Like, you're always on the front.
00:39:14 - Oh, LBJ was a notorious shit guy.
00:39:16 - Big, big shit guy.
00:39:17 - Yeah, no, it's not, I don't, again,
00:39:20 not getting into politics, 'cause I don't know even,
00:39:22 I didn't even play the clip to see what,
00:39:24 you know, President Biden was talking about.
00:39:26 I am just focusing solely on the,
00:39:29 do you know grown men who get ice cream by themselves?
00:39:31 I don't, it's very strange.
00:39:33 No, you're strange.
00:39:33 - Yeah, that is strange.
00:39:34 - You're strange.
00:39:35 - William Howard Taft used to eat ice cream
00:39:37 during every single State of the Union address.
00:39:39 - Was he the guy who got stuck in the tub?
00:39:40 - He is, yeah.
00:39:41 Because it was filled with ice cream.
00:39:43 - How about that?
00:39:44 How about being a president of the United States
00:39:46 and everyone just remembers you as stuck in the tub guy?
00:39:50 - I'd much rather be known as the guy
00:39:51 that died in like 28 days.
00:39:53 - Yeah, or the guy who got his brains blown out in Dallas.
00:39:56 - Yeah, easily.
00:39:58 - Imagine if that happened now.
00:39:59 - I was like, Hank's, Ravel would tweet out the,
00:40:01 a clip of the, he would own a piece of the tub.
00:40:03 - Yeah.
00:40:04 Dude, getting stuck in a, but like,
00:40:06 think about how well known that story has to be
00:40:09 that it survived.
00:40:10 How long ago was he president?
00:40:11 Like 100 years ago?
00:40:12 - You know what, yeah.
00:40:13 - It's stuck in a fucking tub.
00:40:14 - It survived so much that I--
00:40:16 - How'd they get him out of the tub?
00:40:17 - That I almost think it might not be true.
00:40:18 - Your little penis is there 'cause you got, you know,
00:40:21 tub water and he's, oh man,
00:40:23 someone's gotta come just fucking suck you out of the tub.
00:40:27 - All right, so I'm looking this up right now
00:40:28 because it seems like a story
00:40:30 that's been talked about so much that it might be fake.
00:40:32 - No, don't do that.
00:40:33 If it is fake, if you find out it's fake,
00:40:34 do not tell me it's fake.
00:40:36 - I'll just say that if it happens to be fake,
00:40:39 whoever started that rumor, great job.
00:40:41 - Yeah.
00:40:42 - Like if that's your rival and you get elected president
00:40:44 and then you're like, how do I ruin this guy's legacy?
00:40:47 You crack the code.
00:40:48 - He's a stuck in tub guy.
00:40:49 - You figure out how to do it.
00:40:49 I thought you were gonna say with Joe Biden
00:40:51 that he was like eating an ice cream cone in a weird way
00:40:54 because when it's primary season,
00:40:56 the like, aids for every single person
00:40:59 that is running for president,
00:41:00 they've got like two rules,
00:41:01 which are like don't eat a corn dog,
00:41:03 don't eat ice cream because people just Photoshop
00:41:06 penises on them.
00:41:07 Stay away from state fairs.
00:41:08 I know Hunter seems to really like
00:41:09 the funnel cake powder quite a bit,
00:41:12 but stay out of state fairs.
00:41:14 - No, he wasn't eating it weird.
00:41:15 Joe Biden does have like,
00:41:19 every time he eats an ice cream cone,
00:41:20 I feel like right before he starts eating it,
00:41:23 he's gotta decide, he's gotta remind himself,
00:41:25 like is this a child's hair I'm gonna sniff
00:41:28 or an ice cream cone?
00:41:29 But other than that, it was normal.
00:41:30 - Yeah, it's also funny that Clay wakes up every morning
00:41:32 and he just sees what Joe Biden's doing.
00:41:34 He's like, okay, I know what I'm gonna talk about.
00:41:36 - Yeah, he ate ice cream.
00:41:37 - It's like Skip Bayless with LeBron, right?
00:41:39 - This guy's eating ice cream.
00:41:41 - I can't believe it.
00:41:41 - By himself.
00:41:43 Ice cream rocks.
00:41:45 No one should be shamed at any point
00:41:47 for eating ice cream ever.
00:41:49 That's a fact.
00:41:50 - I agree.
00:41:51 Maybe Joe Biden can't digest solid foods.
00:41:54 - That too.
00:41:55 Well, he had a cone.
00:41:56 I don't know, did he finish it?
00:41:57 We never saw it to completion.
00:41:57 - I don't see it, no.
00:41:59 - All right, my cool throne is the Knicks
00:42:04 and Tom Thibodeau getting the Knicks
00:42:06 to the point of they're like the '90s Knicks again.
00:42:08 Did you see that clip last night?
00:42:09 Dante DiVincenzo just doing a full form tackle.
00:42:12 - It was great.
00:42:13 It was like Sean Taylor and the Pro Bowl.
00:42:14 - Yeah.
00:42:15 - It was fantastic.
00:42:16 - The Knicks are, I mean, it will be fun
00:42:18 to see the Knicks in the playoffs.
00:42:20 I think the Knicks are one of those teams
00:42:21 that they should be like,
00:42:23 maybe it's just '90s basketball in my head.
00:42:24 They should try to just foul people really hard
00:42:27 instead of playing good basketball.
00:42:28 And they do play good basketball.
00:42:29 - Isaiah Thomas is like,
00:42:29 "I wouldn't go in the paint if I were you."
00:42:31 - Yeah, right.
00:42:31 - That should be their motto for sure.
00:42:33 The refs did apologize to Monty Williams after the game.
00:42:36 They said, "Yeah, we blew that call.
00:42:37 "We screwed it up."
00:42:38 Which is, if you're a fan and the refs say,
00:42:40 "We screwed up this call, sorry."
00:42:42 To me, that's almost worse.
00:42:44 - Way worse.
00:42:45 - It's like, I don't wanna hear that.
00:42:45 I want you to double down on being a shithead
00:42:47 so I can be mad at you.
00:42:48 - Just never saw it.
00:42:49 - Now I'm like, oh, you're apologizing to me,
00:42:51 but that still doesn't affect anything.
00:42:52 - Right, right, I'd agree.
00:42:54 All right, Jake, finish this off.
00:42:55 Hot seat, cool Toronto.
00:42:55 - My hot seat is John Rahm.
00:42:57 He is reportedly being ghosted by Tiger Woods
00:43:00 as Rahm is trying to reach out to him
00:43:02 to explain his live decision.
00:43:04 - Oh, what do you mean?
00:43:06 Why doesn't he just text Tiger Woods
00:43:07 a bunch of dollar bill signs?
00:43:10 Boom, he explained it.
00:43:11 - So he says that, "Rory's been supportive publicly
00:43:14 "of my decision and he was privately as well."
00:43:18 But he said, "I mean, Tiger, I texted him
00:43:20 "and the people that try to reach out,
00:43:22 "they don't know what the process when I signed it.
00:43:23 "Just let him know, hey, you know,
00:43:24 "this is a personal decision.
00:43:25 "I have nothing against anybody."
00:43:26 But apparently he has not heard back from Tiger.
00:43:30 - He should just text him some nudes.
00:43:31 - Yeah, I feel like Tiger's a change his phone number
00:43:33 a lot guy.
00:43:34 - Yeah, Tiger's probably like a five or six cell phone guy,
00:43:39 if that makes sense.
00:43:40 - Yeah.
00:43:41 - That has to be tough, just texting Tiger.
00:43:43 - Why does John Rahm care?
00:43:44 I mean, I know, I get it, Tiger,
00:43:46 but like, dude, you did it for the money.
00:43:48 Like, you shouldn't--
00:43:49 - He's trying to not burn the bridges, I guess.
00:43:51 - But if you're gonna make a decision like that,
00:43:53 you can't go into it being like, hope everyone likes it.
00:43:56 - Yeah, so if you're John Rahm,
00:43:57 how many millions of dollars is Tiger responding
00:44:00 to your text messages worth?
00:44:02 - Well, I don't know.
00:44:04 - How much did he sign for, 500 million?
00:44:05 I heard-- - That's way more.
00:44:06 - I heard it might've been more than that.
00:44:07 I don't know.
00:44:08 - So I think it's okay.
00:44:09 - Yeah, it's fine.
00:44:10 - If you lost texting privileges with Tiger Woods
00:44:12 for $500 million, sign me up.
00:44:14 - Yeah, there's been some lawsuits out there
00:44:15 where the exact opposite scenario is--
00:44:18 - Yes, yes.
00:44:19 All right, and your cool throne?
00:44:20 - My cool throne is Maction.
00:44:21 We're getting more Maction because UMass is getting added,
00:44:24 which means more games during weeknights.
00:44:26 - Back in it.
00:44:27 - Yeah, sorry. - You were in the MAC, yeah.
00:44:28 - Sorry, yes.
00:44:29 But that means more weeknight football, eventually.
00:44:33 - Yeah, and UMass.
00:44:34 - I think it's everything except for lacrosse, right?
00:44:37 - I saw all sports.
00:44:39 - I heard it was men's and women's lacrosse,
00:44:41 staying behind, but that's good.
00:44:42 - Either way, big deal.
00:44:44 - If you gotta pick a conference to go into,
00:44:46 the Sunbelt and the MAC are the two ones
00:44:48 you wanna be in right now.
00:44:49 - MAC is the only conference that doesn't,
00:44:51 they stay steady.
00:44:52 - Yeah.
00:44:53 - They're not getting picked off left and right.
00:44:57 They're steady Eddie.
00:44:58 - If you're not a power conference school,
00:45:00 why wouldn't you wanna be in the MAC
00:45:02 with the way they get the standalone spots every year?
00:45:05 - Yeah, if you're not a power conference school,
00:45:07 I'd wanna be in the MAC or the Mountain West.
00:45:09 - Right.
00:45:10 - I saw somebody tweet out the graphic.
00:45:11 We talk about it every year or every time,
00:45:14 was it UConn plays against UMass?
00:45:17 - Yeah.
00:45:18 - The graphic shows just come.
00:45:19 - Come ass?
00:45:20 - C-U-M, come ass.
00:45:21 Now it's Central Michigan.
00:45:23 - Oh nice.
00:45:24 - When that matchup happens, that's the come ass game.
00:45:25 - Nice, okay.
00:45:27 - Excited about that.
00:45:28 - That is exciting.
00:45:29 We get to keep the come ass game.
00:45:30 - Mark your calendars.
00:45:31 - Yeah.
00:45:32 - What?
00:45:33 - It's come ass.
00:45:36 - Come ass.
00:45:37 - It's come ass.
00:45:37 - Yeah, it's come ass.
00:45:38 It's not exactly the same.
00:45:39 'Cause Connecticut's C-U, Central Michigan is--
00:45:43 - It's just C, the logo's just C.
00:45:45 - Oh yeah, it is.
00:45:46 - Yeah, it's come ass.
00:45:46 - Yeah, yeah.
00:45:48 - Okay.
00:45:49 - Yeah, that's right, C, just C, Connecticut's just C.
00:45:51 Yeah, yeah, that's fun.
00:45:52 This, we get to keep it.
00:45:54 Okay, let's get to our interviews.
00:45:55 We got Biz, great interview with Biz,
00:45:56 great interview with Jay Billis.
00:45:59 Two for the people, before we do that, PFT.
00:46:01 - Before we get to Biz Nasty,
00:46:02 he's brought to you by Proper Number 12 Irish Whiskey.
00:46:05 With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner,
00:46:07 Proper Number 12 is here to remind you,
00:46:09 practice makes proper.
00:46:11 Anything else just wouldn't be proper.
00:46:12 St. Patty's Day is fast approaching,
00:46:14 but you can celebrate St. Practice Day
00:46:18 with Proper 12, Proper Number 12, pour the roar.
00:46:20 That's a good point.
00:46:21 You don't wanna go into St. Patrick's Day out of practice.
00:46:24 You wanna practice, build that tolerance up a little bit.
00:46:26 Don't make a fool of yourself on St. Patty's Day.
00:46:29 Check it out with Proper Number 12 Irish Whiskey.
00:46:32 You can pour the roar.
00:46:33 I like the Irish apple, great sipping whiskey.
00:46:35 If you need a sipping whiskey, get that one.
00:46:37 It'll look great in your house, great in your bar cart,
00:46:39 great on your countertop.
00:46:40 Check it out, pour the roar.
00:46:42 Open your bottle of Proper Number 12 Irish Whiskey
00:46:44 with Drizzly.
00:46:46 That's Proper Number 12 Irish Whiskey.
00:46:48 And now, here's Biz Nasty.
00:46:50 Okay, we now welcome on one of our best friends,
00:46:54 recurring guest.
00:46:56 He did cancel on us last week.
00:46:58 We wanna know why.
00:46:59 It is Paul Bissonette.
00:47:01 Biz, why'd you cancel on us last week?
00:47:03 - I was just so gassed and I just wasn't feeling good.
00:47:07 You know when you have been going so hard,
00:47:10 your body just needs to sleep for a few days?
00:47:13 - Yeah.
00:47:13 - I think for three days in a row,
00:47:15 I was doing 12 hours of sleep.
00:47:17 I just kinda needed it.
00:47:18 Sometimes I crash.
00:47:19 And I was actually watching a YouTube interview.
00:47:23 Who's the guy who was in Oppenheimer?
00:47:26 - Cillian Murphy.
00:47:27 - Yeah, he was saying, "I just need to sleep sometimes."
00:47:31 And I just kinda crashed.
00:47:32 And I was like, "You know what, that's me."
00:47:33 - Wait, wait, you were out with being tired?
00:47:36 - Wait, hold on.
00:47:38 You needed Cillian Murphy to tell you that sleep is good?
00:47:41 - No, but I'm saying that it's just got to a point
00:47:45 where I think I was going too hard
00:47:47 and traveling a lot different time zones
00:47:48 to where I'm like, "Ah."
00:47:50 I remember when I got up, I'm like,
00:47:51 "I'll be shit if I go on.
00:47:53 "My brain can't even function.
00:47:55 "I'd be useless."
00:47:56 And you guys got Janz on and he played with Jager.
00:47:59 Jager just had his jersey retirement.
00:48:01 I feel like the stars align, so who gives a shit?
00:48:04 - That's true.
00:48:04 - I know, I didn't take it personal.
00:48:06 I just was, you know, the AWLs love you.
00:48:08 They love you.
00:48:09 So they were like, "Where's Biz?
00:48:10 "We were promised Biz."
00:48:12 - Well, I tell you what, I was a healthy scratch
00:48:15 plenty of times in my days
00:48:16 and Janz would always step up as a teammate
00:48:18 and there you go.
00:48:19 He did once again.
00:48:21 And you guys got some incredible Jager stories
00:48:24 and a fresh new voice on the PMT podcast.
00:48:27 Unless, has he been on before?
00:48:29 - Yeah, he's been on.
00:48:30 - Okay, he's a reoccurring guest now.
00:48:32 Well, he deserves it.
00:48:33 - Yes, he does.
00:48:34 - 'Cause he's the man.
00:48:35 - He's a great guy.
00:48:35 - So why were you so gassed?
00:48:37 What did you do?
00:48:38 You worked?
00:48:39 - Just a lot of traveling, a lot of games,
00:48:41 a lot of double headers.
00:48:42 Like our double headers on TNT
00:48:43 sometimes go to like two in the morning
00:48:45 and then you're just, you know, it's just a lot.
00:48:47 I don't know, fuck, I'm human, you know?
00:48:49 - Yeah, you are human.
00:48:50 All right, so wanna talk a little hockey.
00:48:52 Also just wanted to catch up with you 'cause we miss you.
00:48:54 - I love you guys.
00:48:55 - First question, I was accused,
00:48:56 Hank said that on Sunday night's show
00:49:00 that the Blackhawks are, or Chicago's a bad sports town
00:49:03 because there was some cheering
00:49:05 for Patrick Kane's overtime winner.
00:49:08 In the moment, I wish I had brought up the fact
00:49:10 that he was the biggest Bucs fan ever
00:49:12 when Tom Brady was on the Bucs.
00:49:13 But you watched that night, I was there, it was incredible.
00:49:18 What did you think?
00:49:19 I mean, like Patrick Kane's won, he's showtime,
00:49:21 he's incredible.
00:49:23 - I think it was one of the best nights in hockey history,
00:49:26 well, at least from like since I've been alive.
00:49:28 Like, you know, Chris Chalios played 27 years pro
00:49:32 and just the whole ceremony,
00:49:34 him coming out in that classic car with his mom,
00:49:37 all of the legends and celebrities
00:49:39 he brought into that building.
00:49:41 The energy must have been insane.
00:49:42 I mean, you were live in attendance.
00:49:44 And you know, you guys often joke,
00:49:46 Will Compton, all the football guys joke
00:49:48 about how the NFL's scripted.
00:49:50 It almost feels like the NHL's scripted.
00:49:53 - Yeah, yeah, that's another thing he came up with.
00:49:55 - Oh, he invented it?
00:49:56 - Yeah, he came up with that, it went super viral.
00:49:58 He's a smart guy.
00:49:59 - Fucking right, man, good for him.
00:50:01 He's on a heater lately, especially with the
00:50:03 all black and all white football team.
00:50:05 We don't need to go into that,
00:50:06 nor do you get it canceled today.
00:50:08 But the fact that it ended up being against Detroit
00:50:11 where Patrick Kane has landed
00:50:12 and what he and that core group of guys
00:50:15 meant to that city during that dynasty
00:50:17 and for them to be there.
00:50:18 And then for Chely to acknowledge them
00:50:20 during his speech too.
00:50:22 Like, Chalios is all class, excuse me,
00:50:25 and you know, he's a guy's guy through and through.
00:50:28 I just thought that that ending was just so fitting.
00:50:31 And for me, from a hockey day in America perspective too,
00:50:35 it being hockey day in America,
00:50:37 it just was the perfect storybook ending.
00:50:39 And he said it, Patrick Kane's gonna go down
00:50:43 when he retires as the best American born player
00:50:46 of all time.
00:50:47 I still think that there's potential room for Matthews
00:50:50 to maybe overtake that throne.
00:50:52 'Cause I see him on the trajectory he's on
00:50:55 having the most goals all time.
00:50:57 But for now, let's give Patrick Kane his flowers.
00:51:00 And I don't give a fuck if you're rooting for the Red Wings,
00:51:05 what he did for the city of Chicago,
00:51:07 he deserves for you to give him a tire pump
00:51:09 after burying you guys.
00:51:10 And all he's doing is giving you guys
00:51:13 another first overall pick.
00:51:14 - Yeah, that's the thing.
00:51:15 If the Blackhawks were in like a race for the playoffs,
00:51:18 it would be different.
00:51:19 But they're the worst team in the NHL.
00:51:21 And yeah, it was a special night.
00:51:23 Like the Kane double ovation,
00:51:25 like he had to come back out on the ice
00:51:27 because no one would sit down.
00:51:29 I got a little misty eyed,
00:51:30 'cause he's just, it's just that tight.
00:51:32 I was explaining on Sunday,
00:51:33 like when you have a guy
00:51:35 who always comes through in the clutch,
00:51:37 there's just something special about it
00:51:39 that you'll just always root for him.
00:51:40 - I'm obviously not a Blackhawks fan
00:51:44 or and wasn't a Patrick Kane fan when I was playing
00:51:47 from a sense of like the competition perspective,
00:51:49 but the respect was there.
00:51:51 But the amount of times in key moments
00:51:54 that he was able to step up and score,
00:51:56 but not only just score,
00:51:58 but then like go down the ice, get on his knees,
00:52:00 make the heart and then punch a fucking hole through it,
00:52:03 the heartbreaker celebration.
00:52:04 And even the one the other night,
00:52:07 like being like showtime, baby, showtime.
00:52:10 How he's able to move his hands really fast,
00:52:12 like kind of doing like,
00:52:13 you know how he does with his hands?
00:52:14 He's like, come on, baby, come on.
00:52:16 He's a legend through and through.
00:52:18 And it was such a cool moment.
00:52:20 And he's all time, man.
00:52:22 He's a first ballot hall of famer.
00:52:24 - It was cool seeing all the players that were out there,
00:52:26 all the stars that came out for it.
00:52:27 A little birdie told me that your good friend,
00:52:30 your dear friend, Wayne Gretzky,
00:52:32 he had a hell of a time there.
00:52:34 I heard he may have been kicked out of the box.
00:52:37 Have you heard anything about that?
00:52:40 - No, what are you talking about?
00:52:42 - I heard Wayne was asked to leave
00:52:44 because he wouldn't stop smoking cigars.
00:52:46 - This was not for me, by the way.
00:52:48 - Not from Big Cat, but I heard.
00:52:50 - Yeah, this is not for me.
00:52:51 - I heard they asked him to leave
00:52:52 and that Wayne Gretzky left and he was like,
00:52:54 well, I guess I'm just gonna hit the bar now.
00:52:56 Like, can you? - No.
00:52:57 - Are you allowed to kick Wayne Gretzky
00:52:58 out of a box at a hockey game?
00:53:00 - There's not a chance that happened.
00:53:02 That's a rumor. - I'm gonna say there's not.
00:53:04 - That's rumor boys.
00:53:05 Hashtag rumor boys.
00:53:07 - I like you fitting into your role as Wayne's enforcer.
00:53:09 - Yeah. - Like his goon.
00:53:10 Be like, nope, didn't happen.
00:53:12 - Yeah, him and DJ Collins now.
00:53:13 - Yeah, I know it didn't happen
00:53:15 because I saw Wayne again.
00:53:17 They had like a post party at the United Center
00:53:19 in the atrium area and he was there.
00:53:21 So he definitely didn't get kicked out.
00:53:23 - Not at the arena. - He was having a good time.
00:53:25 - Not at the arena, but apparently he got kicked
00:53:27 out of the suite.
00:53:28 - He was having a very good time.
00:53:30 - So PFT, speaking of Wayne though,
00:53:33 when Chelio said the greatest American born player
00:53:36 of all time, you know who the first person
00:53:38 to start that standing ovation was?
00:53:41 Wayne was the first guy to get out of his seat.
00:53:43 So that's when you know there's truth behind it.
00:53:45 - Yeah. - So Patrick Kane,
00:53:46 officially the greatest American born player
00:53:49 in hockey history as of right now.
00:53:51 But Chelios, I remember I was in Austin, Texas
00:53:54 at the time and the Texas Stars were playing
00:53:57 against the Chicago Wolves, the minor league team.
00:54:00 And Chelios was like 47 years old, 48 years old,
00:54:04 playing for a minor league hockey team,
00:54:06 came out there, scored a goal.
00:54:07 Why did he keep playing so long?
00:54:09 Is it because he just loved hockey that much?
00:54:11 - Well that, he kept in incredible shape.
00:54:15 So Chelios, I don't know if Yanz was talking about him
00:54:18 in length, but just a guy who could go out
00:54:21 and drink 24 pops, but then yet he'd be at the rink
00:54:24 the next day at 5 a.m. riding the bike in the sauna.
00:54:27 So his ability to stay in shape and be such a freak
00:54:31 for as long as he played, that's why he was able
00:54:35 to have that longevity.
00:54:36 Now from what I understand, I wanna say his son,
00:54:39 I think his name's Jake, I played against him
00:54:41 when he was playing for the Carolina Hurricanes Farm Team
00:54:45 in Charlotte, I actually fought him.
00:54:46 He wanted, Chris wanted to keep playing long enough
00:54:50 to the possibility that he was able to play in the NHL
00:54:53 either with or against his son.
00:54:55 That's my understanding of why he ended up playing so long
00:54:59 and kind of dragging along, but in his last year,
00:55:02 he was playing in the minors and then was also called up
00:55:05 'cause Atlanta Thrasher, Chicago Wolves was the farm team.
00:55:09 He got called up to Atlanta to basically be Zach Bogosian's,
00:55:13 like take him under his wing.
00:55:15 And that was their first rounder that year.
00:55:17 I wanna say he went fifth overall,
00:55:20 and then that was kind of the end of it all.
00:55:21 But to play 27 years, especially in the eras that he played,
00:55:26 three Norris trophies he won, it was just a hell of a career.
00:55:31 I don't know how he played that long 'cause at 32 years old,
00:55:35 both my ACLs just exploded in my last season of playing.
00:55:39 And I wanna say he retired at the age of like 47,
00:55:42 longer than Tom Brady.
00:55:44 So just a remarkable longevity,
00:55:48 and he was butt chugging from the fountain of youth
00:55:50 his whole career.
00:55:51 - It was pretty crazy how long he played.
00:55:54 So Biz, back to Wayne Gretzky real quick.
00:55:57 So I was able to get a picture of my son
00:55:59 with Wayne Gretzky, which like it was bigger for me
00:56:02 than my son's four and a half years old.
00:56:02 - Did he know who you were?
00:56:04 - He, I, he was having fun.
00:56:07 I was lucky because his son is a barstool fan.
00:56:10 So his son came up and was like, "Big Cat, what's up?"
00:56:13 That saved me like perfect timing.
00:56:15 - Oh, nice, nice.
00:56:16 - It was just like, "Thank God he's here
00:56:18 so that Wayne doesn't think I'm just
00:56:19 some fucking weirdo stalker."
00:56:21 - Some pigeon.
00:56:22 - Yeah, right.
00:56:22 So that was huge.
00:56:23 But so I walk out of the arena with my son.
00:56:27 I'm like, "You just got a picture
00:56:28 with the greatest hockey player of all time."
00:56:30 And my son's like, "Well, how is he the greatest?"
00:56:32 I was like, "Well, he scored the most goals."
00:56:34 And then my son asked me, "How many goals did you score?"
00:56:37 I was thinking about it.
00:56:38 You scored seven goals in the NHL.
00:56:40 Can I get a couple?
00:56:40 Can I just take a couple and just tell my son
00:56:42 that I scored a couple?
00:56:44 - I think that the Chicago Blackhawks should shine you,
00:56:47 put you on Bedard's line just for the viral content
00:56:50 to revive the fan base and get ticket sales up.
00:56:53 - Yeah.
00:56:54 - And I think that if they put you net front
00:56:56 on a power play for even a full season,
00:56:59 I bet you he put 15 off your ass and in the net.
00:57:01 - Yeah.
00:57:02 - Especially for how wide yours is,
00:57:03 you basically have a full backboard
00:57:05 if you stand on the far side of the net,
00:57:07 which, I mean, Zach Hyman gets 40 playing with McDavid.
00:57:10 I'm pretty sure you can get 20 playing with Conor Bedard.
00:57:13 - Yeah, I just need one or two
00:57:15 'cause that was a tough question when my son was like,
00:57:16 "How many goals did you score in the NHL?"
00:57:18 And I was just like, "Ah, well, hmm, this is not gonna be."
00:57:22 And then I tried to change the subject,
00:57:24 but yeah, maybe I'll do that.
00:57:26 I did see Hosa too, and he didn't think it was very funny,
00:57:29 but I was like, "Hey, big cat, we've met a bunch of times."
00:57:31 And I was like, "Yeah, we won a couple cups together,
00:57:33 "13 and 15."
00:57:34 (laughing)
00:57:35 And he was just like, "What?"
00:57:37 So that didn't go so well.
00:57:39 - No, he was probably thinking in his head like,
00:57:41 "Maybe this guy was like a black ace
00:57:43 "that got a couple games or something
00:57:44 "and got his name on a cup."
00:57:45 And he's like, "Oh, it's been that long."
00:57:47 I mean, Rafi Torres did hit him pretty hard,
00:57:49 so maybe he forgot. - I fucking hate him.
00:57:50 Yeah, that's true.
00:57:51 So, Biz, you are doing a great job on TV.
00:57:55 We love seeing you on TV.
00:57:57 - Oh, thank you.
00:57:57 - It's like the perfect role for you.
00:58:00 You watch probably more hockey
00:58:01 than anyone in the country right now.
00:58:03 What's the big story getting close to the playoffs?
00:58:06 What's the number one thing you're thinking about
00:58:09 when you're watching every night
00:58:10 and storyline that everyone can be attached to?
00:58:13 - Well, I mean, just going back to what we recorded today,
00:58:17 obviously, Chelios's Jersey retirement was number one,
00:58:20 just to give him his flowers.
00:58:22 I would probably say the hottest topic
00:58:26 was this Matt Rempe kid who's with the Rangers.
00:58:30 He's this six, seven mutant young guy
00:58:34 on his entry-level contract,
00:58:35 and he's came in, his first game
00:58:37 was at the outdoor games at the MetLife,
00:58:40 and his first shift of the game,
00:58:41 he ended up fighting Matt Martin.
00:58:43 So that was pretty cool in front of 80,000 people.
00:58:46 And in the NHL, what they do with the rookie lap,
00:58:49 your first game, is the guys kind of hold up at the door,
00:58:52 so you just kind of start warmup
00:58:54 where you do a couple of loser laps by yourself.
00:58:57 So getting to do that in front of 80,000 people, pretty cool.
00:58:59 I ended up meeting his mom and two sisters,
00:59:02 and they were just so amped up for his first game.
00:59:05 And then Matt Martin, for the Islanders,
00:59:07 was kind enough to drop him with them.
00:59:09 But then, since then, he's fought like two more times.
00:59:12 He's been trucking guys, and he's just kind of been this,
00:59:15 almost like a Jeremy Lin type situation
00:59:18 where he's like a household name
00:59:19 around at least New York City right now
00:59:21 after only playing a handful of games.
00:59:24 That was probably the one story.
00:59:25 And I mean, the Rangers in general, man,
00:59:28 I think they've won, what, 11 games in a row?
00:59:31 They're just on an absolute heater right now.
00:59:33 Shostakins back the plan.
00:59:35 So any time the Rangers are in the mix,
00:59:37 that's usually a big story.
00:59:39 And I would probably say they take the cake.
00:59:41 Florida, being the wagon that they are,
00:59:44 they're probably the number one favorite in the East,
00:59:48 is a big story.
00:59:50 I would say that even Detroit being back in the mix,
00:59:53 Motown, the Iser plan.
00:59:55 Steve Iserman took over as GM, what,
00:59:57 probably four years ago now,
00:59:59 and he had an uphill battle to make them relevant again.
01:00:02 And now they're probably looking at a playoff spot.
01:00:04 So the thing about the NHL, it's like,
01:00:06 there's so much parody, and it's such a good league.
01:00:09 And I would say probably the most
01:00:11 competitive regular season.
01:00:13 It's not like one team is a headline hog.
01:00:16 It just gets snapped around
01:00:18 to where there's just so many amazing stories.
01:00:20 The Western Conference,
01:00:22 probably the strongest it's been in a while,
01:00:24 where I think that there's probably six teams
01:00:26 that could realistically come out of the Western Conference.
01:00:29 Rick Tockett, who was my coworker at TNT,
01:00:33 he took over as head coach last year.
01:00:35 It was probably like, not issues in the locker room,
01:00:40 but definitely chemistry problems.
01:00:45 And he was able to go in there and fix all that.
01:00:47 And now they're the top team in the league
01:00:49 going into the last 20 games of the season.
01:00:51 So they're for sure gonna make playoffs.
01:00:54 That to me was one of the biggest stories,
01:00:56 and where a guy who wasn't even a coach
01:00:58 halfway through the year last year
01:00:59 is probably the front runner to win the Jack Adams this year.
01:01:03 But outside of that, man, I mean,
01:01:05 I can keep rifling off stuff,
01:01:06 but the NHL's thriving, and overall,
01:01:10 the growth of the league and where it's at,
01:01:12 I just think it's a, if you're not a hardcore hockey fan
01:01:15 and you're kind of sick of maybe the sport
01:01:18 that you're following, jump on the hockey bandwagon, man,
01:01:21 because it's an amazing league.
01:01:23 - Yeah, it is.
01:01:23 Yeah, you were talking earlier about fighting the guy
01:01:25 and then meeting up with him later and being boys.
01:01:27 What percentage of the fights you've gotten in
01:01:30 do you end up being friends with the person
01:01:32 immediately afterwards versus the ones
01:01:34 where there's actual bad blood,
01:01:36 where you're like, "I don't like that dude."
01:01:38 - So I never really had any rivalries
01:01:41 where I hated guys that much.
01:01:44 You always usually give the pat on the ass after.
01:01:47 And I mean, you wouldn't be playing tummy sticks per se,
01:01:50 where you're like, "Hey man, how the wife and kids?"
01:01:52 Like yelling over on the other side of the box.
01:01:54 But now when I see guys that I fought,
01:01:57 yeah, we just laugh and chuckle about it.
01:01:59 And we did it to survive.
01:02:01 We did it so we could earn a paycheck.
01:02:03 And for me, it wasn't that deep rooted,
01:02:06 unless a guy took a cheap shot at a teammate.
01:02:09 And maybe that's why I would have bad blood.
01:02:11 But ultimately there was no scumbags that I truly hated
01:02:16 and still carry any type of grudge against.
01:02:19 - Yeah, I like to hear that.
01:02:20 The biz, this is actually the first time
01:02:22 we've had you on in a while.
01:02:23 So you were a breaking news guy a few months ago.
01:02:26 How's that gone since you broke that entire,
01:02:30 was it with Babcock in Columbus?
01:02:34 How, what is the, is the National Hockey League media
01:02:39 giving you a little more respect that you deserve
01:02:41 'cause you were like dead on with that entire story?
01:02:43 - I mean, I don't really give a fuck about that stuff.
01:02:47 Like the respect and that like journalistic integrity.
01:02:51 Like I tell rumors about trades coming up all the time.
01:02:54 Like I just, I'm like a casual fan
01:02:56 when it comes to that stuff.
01:02:58 It was a pretty wild time
01:03:00 because obviously they were denying it right away.
01:03:03 And I don't know how many people listening
01:03:04 know the backstory.
01:03:05 Long story short is Mike Babcock was a coach
01:03:08 in the National Hockey League, a successful one.
01:03:11 You know, he coached the Detroit Red Wings for a while,
01:03:15 won a Stanley Cup there.
01:03:16 With the roster they had, probably should have won more.
01:03:20 But he had a history of maybe abusing his power too much.
01:03:24 Now there's this, there's this maybe mindset
01:03:27 of some people listening being like,
01:03:29 oh, well like, you know, today guys are too soft
01:03:31 and it's like this like cushy society now where,
01:03:34 no man, I think that establishing accountability
01:03:37 and being hard on players
01:03:39 if they're making mistakes over and over
01:03:41 and you know, sitting them out and bag skating them.
01:03:44 Yeah, that's all normal stuff that I had to go through.
01:03:48 But there was like the verbal barrages
01:03:51 that he would give Fronzen, who was a player
01:03:54 for the Detroit Red Wings where it caused him
01:03:56 like mental issues where even since he's been retired,
01:03:59 he spoke out on it and he said it destroyed his confidence
01:04:03 in his career and he fucking hates Babcock.
01:04:06 At the time he was in Detroit, probably at the time of era
01:04:11 where it could be gotten away with
01:04:12 and given that Babcock had a good reputation
01:04:15 from a coaching standpoint, coached Team Canada,
01:04:18 won gold there, it wasn't something
01:04:20 that was gonna get him fired.
01:04:21 Move on to Toronto where he ended up getting the next job
01:04:24 where he was the highest paid coach in the league.
01:04:27 Mitch Marner, the story came out where when he was a rookie,
01:04:31 he called him in and he said,
01:04:33 "I want you to rank the guys laziest to hard working."
01:04:37 So he was basically forced to do it.
01:04:40 Then Babcock took that list, goes into the locker room
01:04:44 and basically tells the first guy on the list,
01:04:46 "Yeah, Marner thinks you're lazy."
01:04:48 So just suing this guy with his team and abusing his power.
01:04:52 Now, a story that, so there was a few other things
01:04:56 that happened in Toronto to eventually the point
01:04:58 where they weren't having success
01:04:59 and I think that he overstayed his welcome
01:05:02 and they moved on.
01:05:04 One of the things that happened in Toronto
01:05:05 that hadn't come out was one of the power dynamics
01:05:08 was he would have guys come in and he would say,
01:05:12 "What type of person are you?
01:05:13 "Give me your phone, let me see your phone."
01:05:16 And he would start looking through the players' photos
01:05:19 on their phone, like that's just,
01:05:20 I mean, any job you work in America,
01:05:23 if you're a boss and you do that, you're done, right?
01:05:25 Are you getting canned?
01:05:27 - Yeah, I do that to Hank after every weekend.
01:05:29 I'm just like, "Let me see, let me see what you got, Hank."
01:05:32 - You're definitely on the clock.
01:05:34 - Yeah.
01:05:35 - So to the point where they had a designated guy
01:05:38 on the Toronto Maple Leafs as a guy
01:05:40 who would tell the new guys on the team,
01:05:41 "Hey, when you get called in, don't bring your phone.
01:05:45 "Say you left it in the car."
01:05:46 That's pretty fucking crazy.
01:05:48 So he ends up getting canned from Toronto
01:05:51 for a lot of these issues.
01:05:53 He has to go do some personal work
01:05:56 in order to reestablish his reputation,
01:06:00 and then he ends up getting a third chance in Columbus.
01:06:04 Before he'd even coached a game,
01:06:06 he's doing the same things with the cell phones.
01:06:08 So a former player who he did this to in Toronto
01:06:12 reached out to me.
01:06:13 He goes, "Hey, man," he goes,
01:06:14 "This shit's still going on.
01:06:16 "You gotta call it out on the podcast."
01:06:18 So I remember calling Witt and telling him,
01:06:21 I'm like, "Can you believe that this guy's still doing this
01:06:23 "and even did it to begin with?"
01:06:25 So on the podcast, we ended up recording,
01:06:28 Witt reminded me I would have never have brought this up.
01:06:30 And then so I made the, I don't wanna say light of it,
01:06:33 but saying how if he would have called me in,
01:06:35 I would have had a picture of my bin
01:06:36 staring him right in the face.
01:06:37 Like I would have put a picture of my hairy cornhole
01:06:41 where the first few pictures would have been that
01:06:43 and then maybe a double barrel like,
01:06:45 "Fuck you, don't be looking at my pictures."
01:06:48 And all of a sudden we end up posting the clip
01:06:51 and it gets about seven million views.
01:06:53 This thing goes, (imitates explosion)
01:06:55 So I didn't expect it to maybe get as much attention
01:06:58 as it did, but it caught fire.
01:07:00 And then all of a sudden it was a bull rush.
01:07:02 The media went crazy with it and they denied it.
01:07:06 And it was a pretty nerve wracking situation
01:07:09 breaking that news and having to go through that.
01:07:11 But eventually the truth came out
01:07:13 and apparently there was even more worse shit
01:07:16 that he was doing.
01:07:17 And then they said, "Hey, we're parting ways with him
01:07:19 "before you even started the game."
01:07:21 So as far as my breaking stories and breaking news,
01:07:25 I'm gonna probably take a hiatus for a few years
01:07:28 after the emotional--
01:07:29 - But take a rest.
01:07:30 - Yeah, you deserve a rest.
01:07:31 - Yeah, but you guys are a player's podcast
01:07:33 and that's what I appreciate when you,
01:07:34 like that was your message was like,
01:07:36 "Hey, we're gonna stand up for the players.
01:07:37 "Like this is some bullshit that's going on.
01:07:40 "No one else is gonna report it.
01:07:41 "We talk about the players.
01:07:43 "We love this league.
01:07:43 "We were players.
01:07:45 "We have to say something."
01:07:46 - I would have never have even known the story
01:07:49 unless a former player said,
01:07:51 "Hey, this is what was going on with us.
01:07:53 "You need to use your platform to address it."
01:07:56 And I said, "Aye aye, captain."
01:07:57 And like you said, yes, we're a player's podcast
01:08:00 and we try to give them as much voice as possible.
01:08:05 - How'd you feel about the people out there
01:08:06 that were like, "Not normally a fan of these guys,
01:08:09 "but I tend to agree with them on this."
01:08:11 There was a lot of that going on.
01:08:12 Like, normally I hate Paul Bissonnette,
01:08:14 but gotta admit he's right on the,
01:08:16 you had to admit, you had to say, first of all,
01:08:18 like, "I don't usually like spitting chicklets,
01:08:20 "but again, they're right."
01:08:21 - I mean, I could see why people would hate my guts.
01:08:26 I was a pretty big donkey online for a long time.
01:08:29 So for those people, maybe we could kind of just be like,
01:08:32 "Hey, we're neutral now and we can be buddies and move on."
01:08:35 - Yeah, hopefully.
01:08:37 When we had Yandel on and we talked to him a little bit
01:08:40 about the Maple Leafs this year,
01:08:41 and we asked him why they won't win the Stanley Cup,
01:08:44 'cause he didn't include them in the list of teams
01:08:46 that could win, his answer was the fans,
01:08:48 that the fans are the problem in Toronto.
01:08:50 I know that you've been on and off the Leafs bandwagon
01:08:53 a couple times the past years.
01:08:54 You did make a bet, I think, right,
01:08:55 that you would get circumcised if they didn't win,
01:08:59 what, two series or one series of playoffs?
01:09:01 So your hog is still covered with your turtleneck,
01:09:03 to my knowledge.
01:09:04 - It's the only bet I've never followed through on,
01:09:06 by the way.
01:09:07 - I think we can give you a pass on that one.
01:09:08 - I did shave my head on national television.
01:09:10 I made up for it with the Edmonton-Calgary bet
01:09:13 with the Battle of Alberta.
01:09:14 - Yeah, so his analysis was the fans suck in Toronto,
01:09:18 and they're holding the team back.
01:09:19 Would you agree with that assessment?
01:09:22 - Yeah, it's, I mean, I don't know,
01:09:24 it's like any major sport.
01:09:25 When you're in the mecca, every little thing that happens
01:09:28 is the biggest story in the world,
01:09:29 where if you win 6-5, we have a goaltending issue.
01:09:32 If we win 2-1, what's wrong with the offense, right?
01:09:35 They're just trying to fabricate stories.
01:09:37 I mean, so living under the microscope
01:09:41 of playing in Toronto would be very difficult,
01:09:43 and in the past, they've been very, very hard to deal with.
01:09:46 I wanna say there's been a few instances this year
01:09:49 where they've actually tried to elevate players
01:09:51 who are going through difficult times.
01:09:54 The goalie, Samsonov, or Samsonov,
01:09:57 I mean, the way you pronounce it changes every week,
01:09:59 at least for me, but he was having a difficult time
01:10:02 where they started kinda like chanting for him
01:10:04 and getting behind him, so I can see
01:10:06 where Yanz is coming from.
01:10:08 The fan base can be very fickle,
01:10:10 but I think that they're turning a new leaf,
01:10:12 no pun intended. - Ooh, that's good.
01:10:14 - I think that that's why, you like that?
01:10:16 - Thank you. - You like your puns,
01:10:17 don't you? - Yeah.
01:10:18 - Oh, yeah, baby. - That's great, Paul.
01:10:19 - Yeah, you like to do it, you like to do it.
01:10:21 - What are you doing with your other hand?
01:10:24 - I was rubbing my cock.
01:10:25 (laughing)
01:10:27 You know?
01:10:28 - Put that, yeah. - Big J, journalism,
01:10:30 yeah, yeah, yeah. - I love that.
01:10:31 - This looks like a Drake video right now.
01:10:33 (laughing)
01:10:34 - What's, a Drake?
01:10:36 - Yeah, you don't-- - Oh, yeah.
01:10:38 - Yeah. - So I never saw that,
01:10:40 I heard about it, so he's got a big hog?
01:10:43 - We gotta send the video now, yeah.
01:10:45 (laughing)
01:10:46 - Well, you have, yeah, send it right now.
01:10:48 How big's his rope, you got a big rope?
01:10:50 - It's a pretty big, it's a decent rope.
01:10:52 It was big enough to the point where we thought
01:10:53 that maybe he leaked it himself,
01:10:54 because it was a good visual. - Veteran move.
01:10:57 - Yeah. - Veteran move.
01:10:58 If I had a huge hog, I'd leak it too.
01:11:00 - Yeah. - I'd be doing
01:11:02 the old sex tape, get our numbers up.
01:11:03 We'd be the number one sports podcast
01:11:05 if I had a big hog.
01:11:06 - What, hey, how many times, like, in a given week
01:11:09 do the TNT producers are like,
01:11:11 "Hey, Biz, you said that name wrong."
01:11:13 Do they get on you for pronunciations,
01:11:14 or do they just know, "We got this."
01:11:16 - Usually Liam just calls, usually just Liam
01:11:19 just calls me out right next to me.
01:11:20 (laughing)
01:11:21 So that's the beauty of it.
01:11:22 He holds me accountable, for sure.
01:11:25 - Yeah. - But I would say
01:11:26 that I would have to agree with fans, or Yans,
01:11:30 but I don't think that that's gonna be an issue this year.
01:11:33 - Ooh, okay. - Yeah, I'm feeling
01:11:36 the mojo right now. - No way.
01:11:38 - Yeah, they're peaking at the perfect time.
01:11:41 So they had Morgan Riley, who cross-checked
01:11:43 the guy in the face.
01:11:45 I guess you could say a faux pas
01:11:47 is when you have an empty netter in hockey,
01:11:49 that you don't, you just kinda just slide it in.
01:11:52 - Yeah. - Well, there was a kid
01:11:54 for the Ottawa Senators, Leafs Senators
01:11:56 have a Battle of Ontario, and he had
01:11:59 the full net to himself, and he just wound up
01:12:02 and took a clap bomb.
01:12:03 So Morgan Riley skated over, cross-checked him in the face,
01:12:06 got a five-game sussy, and they were a bit thin
01:12:09 on the back end to begin with,
01:12:11 but it galvanized the group.
01:12:13 They were going through a difficult time,
01:12:14 and they ended up rattling off five wins
01:12:16 during his suspension.
01:12:18 I think they're at seven in a row right now,
01:12:20 and I just love that they're peaking at the perfect time.
01:12:24 - Well, what is it? - They got Tyler--
01:12:24 - The perfect time would be like a little bit later, right?
01:12:27 - Yeah.
01:12:28 - Well, time out, though.
01:12:31 They were in a wild-card position
01:12:34 fighting for their playoff lives,
01:12:36 so they need to start rattling off some wins,
01:12:38 and some people say, "Oh, they're peaking too early,
01:12:41 "they're peaking too early," like idiots like you.
01:12:43 But if you go back to last year,
01:12:46 the Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers
01:12:49 are right after All-Star Game is when they started
01:12:51 their peak, they started winning, winning, winning,
01:12:53 winning, winning, leading into playoffs,
01:12:55 so it wasn't just like, "Oh, okay, hit the snooze button,
01:12:58 "hit the snooze button, oh, it's playoffs,
01:13:00 "okay, I guess we'll start trying."
01:13:01 Now, there has to be some method to the madness leading in,
01:13:04 and the Leafs have found that at the perfect time.
01:13:08 - I'm with you, I buy into the Leafs bullshit,
01:13:10 it seems like every single year.
01:13:12 I'm not a fan of the team, but I watch them play,
01:13:14 and I watch Austin Matthews, and I'm like,
01:13:16 "This guy's on a different level,"
01:13:17 and it always feels like they've got
01:13:18 all the ingredients that are ready,
01:13:20 and then I get disappointed every single year
01:13:22 when my bet doesn't hit, because I do it,
01:13:24 and now I'm starting to do it again,
01:13:25 so by telling you that you're full of shit,
01:13:28 I'm really just telling me,
01:13:29 like, don't buy into their bullshit again.
01:13:31 - Yeah.
01:13:32 - I could see why you would think that.
01:13:35 Now, I'm a firm believer in facing your demons head on,
01:13:40 like, go right at the eye of the storm.
01:13:42 I am hoping that they draw Boston
01:13:45 as a first-round matchup, because if you go back to,
01:13:49 I don't know the exact year, you guys could maybe look it up
01:13:52 if you have a researcher there.
01:13:53 Is Jake there?
01:13:54 - We don't have a researcher.
01:13:56 He's not here right now.
01:13:57 I can look it up for you. - Okay, well, I wish I had.
01:13:59 They lost to the Boston Bruins.
01:14:01 They were up 3-1 in the series,
01:14:03 and they were up 3 or 4-1 in the game.
01:14:06 That was game seven, and then they ended up
01:14:08 losing to the Boston Bruins,
01:14:10 so I feel much like when the Red Sox went against the Yankees
01:14:14 when they were down 3-0,
01:14:17 they ended up reversing the curse,
01:14:19 and that's when they went on to end up
01:14:20 winning their first World Series,
01:14:22 and I don't even know how long since the curse of the Bambino.
01:14:25 I feel if the Leafs end up matching up
01:14:27 with Boston the first round, I think they'd beat them,
01:14:30 and then they'd go on to March to win the Stanley Cup.
01:14:32 - So 2013, so there's probably a lot of guys
01:14:34 from the 2013 team that are still on this team.
01:14:38 - There's not one player that's still left, though.
01:14:40 - They take it pretty personally.
01:14:41 Also, if you're gonna use an example of a team
01:14:43 that's battled back or had a history recently of 3-0,
01:14:48 you would have to remember that the Boston team last year,
01:14:51 they blew a 3-0 lead, didn't they?
01:14:53 - No, 3-1.
01:14:54 They blew a 3-1 lead.
01:14:57 - 3-1, okay, but they were the one seed last year, yeah.
01:15:00 - They were, the best regular season team in NHL history.
01:15:04 - So the Bruins have to find a way to play the Panthers
01:15:07 in the first round, and the Leafs have to find a way
01:15:09 to also play the Bruins in the first round.
01:15:12 - I think they should do a Chinese checker-style playoff.
01:15:14 Just get three teams on the ice, let's fucking roll, baby.
01:15:18 - A death match.
01:15:19 Medieval times, dinner and tournament, let's go.
01:15:22 - I was gonna say, the one thing I love about hockey
01:15:27 and hockey players is that analytics have come
01:15:30 into all sports, it's changed a little bit,
01:15:33 the human element has been taken out of it a little,
01:15:35 but you said something there that I truly believe,
01:15:37 and I think most hockey guys would agree,
01:15:39 like an issue where you have a guy stand up
01:15:42 for his teammates, cross-check someone,
01:15:45 can galvanize and get all the boys pumped up.
01:15:47 Like, were there moments in your career,
01:15:50 or maybe even you see it right now,
01:15:51 where it's like, hey, a fight, and then that fight happens,
01:15:54 and then boom, they're off and running.
01:15:56 Like, the boys in the locker room need something
01:15:58 to get behind, it's not just playing hockey.
01:16:01 - I just think it speaks more volumes
01:16:04 as to how connected the group is.
01:16:06 And hockey, you can have all the skill in the world,
01:16:09 but if you're not connected as a group,
01:16:11 I mean, you're gonna fizzle out.
01:16:13 There's been plenty of unbelievable teams
01:16:14 that have just found ways to lose,
01:16:18 where you have these, like for instance,
01:16:20 last year, the Panthers,
01:16:21 that's a team who's galvanized together.
01:16:24 It's not just, if their goalie stops a puck,
01:16:28 and one of the offensive zone players,
01:16:30 offensive players from the other team
01:16:32 bumps into their goalie, they're gonna have five Panthers
01:16:35 jumping on that guy's back.
01:16:36 They just are, so the only championship I've ever won
01:16:41 was in the AHL with Mike Stuthers,
01:16:43 and he instilled that in us, and I truly believe it,
01:16:47 where, like Leafs at the beginning of the year,
01:16:51 they had a few issues where things like that had happened,
01:16:54 and guys were just marching all over them,
01:16:56 getting in the way with it, chirping at their bench,
01:16:58 where nobody was answering the bell.
01:17:00 So I felt that that was a major issue
01:17:02 and a major disconnect within the group,
01:17:04 where that's obviously been addressed now.
01:17:07 I feel like guys are stepping up in that situation,
01:17:09 and that's why probably William Nylander spoke to,
01:17:12 hey, I know we're losing our best defenseman
01:17:14 for five games, but we're gonna battle for him
01:17:17 while he's out of the lineup,
01:17:19 and that's really sparked the group internally.
01:17:21 Just one moment like that in a season.
01:17:23 Man, let's go back to last year,
01:17:25 when Florida Panthers were fighting for their playoff lives.
01:17:29 It was Matthew Kachuk's father, Keith Kachuk,
01:17:33 who did a radio hit in Canada.
01:17:35 We had him on our alt-cast,
01:17:39 and it was somewhat of a calculated move,
01:17:41 where he's like, well, he's like,
01:17:43 yeah, I was obviously going on there,
01:17:45 knowing that it was probably gonna create some airways,
01:17:47 but I didn't know it was gonna have
01:17:49 the ripple effect that it had,
01:17:50 but he called out the whole team for playing soft
01:17:53 and playing like a bunch of pussies,
01:17:54 and after that, it was a full-blown mutiny,
01:17:57 and there was nobody who was gonna push over
01:17:59 the Florida Panthers, and they went on
01:18:01 to do what they did last year.
01:18:02 - I love it, I like that.
01:18:03 I like a dad getting involved.
01:18:04 - Yeah.
01:18:05 - Connor McDavid.
01:18:06 - Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
01:18:08 If your dad's some Joe Schmo,
01:18:11 who was just following you through the minor ranks,
01:18:13 being an annoying dad, it's one thing.
01:18:15 If you're Walt Kachuk, who scored 500 goals
01:18:18 in the National Hockey League,
01:18:19 and you should be a Hall of Famer,
01:18:22 it's a little bit different.
01:18:23 So I wouldn't exactly say every dad
01:18:26 should be getting in the mix.
01:18:27 - No, let every dad get in the mix.
01:18:28 - We need a hockey version of Lamar Ball.
01:18:31 - Yeah.
01:18:32 - We need somebody to really stir your shit up.
01:18:33 - Yeah.
01:18:33 (laughing)
01:18:34 - Get it going.
01:18:36 - Yeah, yeah, I don't know, is there one?
01:18:38 Is there an example?
01:18:40 - Is there a helicopter dad?
01:18:41 Who's the best dad in the NHL?
01:18:43 - I got a call from one recently,
01:18:46 who was maybe not happy with what we were talking about
01:18:50 on the podcast, 'cause his kid, basically,
01:18:52 was like, "I don't wanna play for the Philadelphia Flyers."
01:18:55 - Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:18:58 - He's like, "I'm done."
01:18:59 And he refused to even meet with them.
01:19:01 But it's a whole new regime.
01:19:03 I can understand maybe why he's frustrated
01:19:06 with the old regime, but there's a full new awesome regime.
01:19:09 Danny Breyer's there, Keith Jones,
01:19:12 the Flyers are trying to reestablish their culture there.
01:19:15 And for whatever reason, this kid just was like,
01:19:17 "Yeah, I ain't coming."
01:19:19 And they traded him, and I got a phone call,
01:19:22 and he's basically saying that they were lying
01:19:23 about the situation, where I'm like,
01:19:25 "I don't think Danny Breyer and Keith Jones
01:19:27 "are lying about the fact of all this stuff
01:19:29 "happening behind the scenes, but okay, Lamar Ball."
01:19:32 - Uh-huh, I like your use of the word regime, too.
01:19:35 - Yeah.
01:19:36 - It feels real official.
01:19:38 The new regime in Philadelphia.
01:19:39 What's the best regime in the NHL right now?
01:19:42 - Oh, okay, that's a great question.
01:19:45 - Great question.
01:19:45 - I would say a very cool regime,
01:19:51 and one that I would wanna be a part of,
01:19:53 would be part of the Eiser plan in Detroit,
01:19:56 with Steve Eiserman.
01:19:57 - That sounds cool.
01:19:59 - Oh, yeah.
01:20:01 He's got a bunch of the old players
01:20:03 from the Detroit days, when they won cups together,
01:20:07 as part of his development staff,
01:20:10 whether they're working hand-in-hand with players,
01:20:12 whether they're part of the scouting staff.
01:20:14 So being part of that group,
01:20:16 and the brass, the round table,
01:20:19 that would be a pretty cool regime to be a part of.
01:20:21 - Yeah.
01:20:22 - But Stevie is pretty intense,
01:20:25 so if you were late for a Zoom call,
01:20:27 he would ream you out.
01:20:30 If any information of inside the regime gets out,
01:20:34 you're done, walk the plank.
01:20:35 You probably would get beheaded
01:20:37 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
01:20:39 But nonetheless, that would be a ride-or-die regime
01:20:43 that I would love to be a part of.
01:20:45 - That sounds great. - That's great to ask.
01:20:46 What about the worst regime?
01:20:47 - I don't wanna be too negative.
01:20:52 - One regime that needs work.
01:20:56 - It's in transition.
01:20:57 - Regime change.
01:20:59 - Can I get back to you on that at the end of the pod?
01:21:03 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:21:04 - At the end of my interview?
01:21:05 - Marinate on that for a little bit.
01:21:06 - Okay, so--
01:21:07 - I wanna ask you about McDavid real quick.
01:21:09 Is he ever gonna score a goal again?
01:21:11 Is he, like for the best athlete
01:21:12 in the history of the world,
01:21:14 going 10 games without a goal,
01:21:15 seems like a long time, right?
01:21:18 - I think sometimes he probably just gets bored
01:21:21 of doing certain things,
01:21:22 so he says, "Ah, I'm just gonna feed my teammates
01:21:24 "for the next month here."
01:21:26 And in that stretch of time,
01:21:28 he's, I mean, he had a six assist game.
01:21:31 So there's certain situations where he's like
01:21:33 probably looking off scoring a goal.
01:21:35 And he actually could've put an empty netter in the net
01:21:40 going back about a week, maybe a week and a half ago
01:21:42 against the Arizona Coyotes.
01:21:44 But he had a teammate, Fogle, who had been struggling,
01:21:47 who hadn't scored a goal in about eight or nine games.
01:21:49 And instead of taking the empty netter to himself,
01:21:52 he made a play over to Fogle
01:21:54 so he could score the empty netter
01:21:56 to gain his confidence back,
01:21:57 in which he did.
01:21:58 He ended up scoring the next game after that,
01:22:00 and he's been hot ever since.
01:22:02 So he is just the all-time teammate
01:22:05 and a great ambassador for our game.
01:22:07 And another guy who you could probably consider,
01:22:11 if he continues on the trajectory he's on,
01:22:17 it's hard to say he would pass Wayne
01:22:18 'cause Wayne's numbers are just,
01:22:20 they're just untouchable
01:22:21 because he just cracked the code at that time
01:22:23 and the goalies weren't good enough.
01:22:25 But he will probably end up second in all-time scoring.
01:22:28 So--
01:22:29 And an absolute phenom who's lived up
01:22:31 to every bit of expectation.
01:22:33 But if he continues on this trajectory,
01:22:35 he'd have zero Stanley Cups.
01:22:37 That is, so that is something that is weighed heavily
01:22:41 on NHL guys where it's like,
01:22:43 oh yeah, but he didn't win a Cup,
01:22:44 but he didn't win a Cup.
01:22:45 And you could tell that it weighs on him.
01:22:48 I think that you will see way more personality
01:22:51 coming out of him when he gets the job done.
01:22:53 It was the same thing with Sid.
01:22:55 And that's not a knock.
01:22:56 He has personality, but these guys take it so seriously
01:23:00 that they wanna be able to deliver that
01:23:02 and have that in order to think
01:23:05 that their career was complete.
01:23:07 - Yeah, yeah.
01:23:08 - I think that you could say that about every sport,
01:23:11 but I would say in hockey, from a media perspective,
01:23:14 that is something that is held against you.
01:23:16 Look at how long they were holding it against Ovi.
01:23:19 - Yeah, yep.
01:23:20 - That was the one, I mean, you know PFT more than anyone.
01:23:23 That was the, oh yeah, but he's not a winner.
01:23:26 Oh yeah, but he's not a winner.
01:23:27 - Yeah, raises golf bags.
01:23:29 - The golf cartoon that would come out every year
01:23:31 that they'd lose.
01:23:32 And it didn't help that they would win
01:23:33 the President's Cup all the time.
01:23:36 And then they'd get bounced in the playoffs.
01:23:38 It became a narrative that sucked.
01:23:40 And yeah, I mean, if you're a hockey player,
01:23:41 like we say, you don't, how many minutes
01:23:43 does Conor McDavid skate per night?
01:23:45 - 22 or something. - 22?
01:23:47 So you're not really on the ice at all during a hockey game,
01:23:50 even if you're the best player.
01:23:51 And then they hold you accountable
01:23:52 if they don't win the Cup.
01:23:53 - Right, you should probably stay on the ice more.
01:23:56 - And going back to last year and this year,
01:23:59 this is the best group that they've surrounded him with.
01:24:02 And the young guys who they're waiting on to blossom
01:24:06 are starting to blossom.
01:24:07 And the moves that they've made are starting to pay off.
01:24:10 I would say the one area, if Conor McDavid
01:24:12 wants a Stanley Cup, I would say they probably
01:24:14 have to add a defenseman
01:24:16 and probably a goaltender at the deadline.
01:24:19 Not saying Stewart Skinner can't get the job done.
01:24:22 They just maybe need somebody
01:24:24 with a little bit more experience.
01:24:26 There has been rumors that Marc-Andre Fleury
01:24:29 is gonna be on the move somewhere.
01:24:31 I've heard LA is a landing spot.
01:24:34 Edmonton might be a potential landing spot.
01:24:38 But going back to the Boston Bruins,
01:24:40 they have two goalies right now that are studs.
01:24:43 And if the Boston Bruins wanna win a Stanley Cup,
01:24:46 I think they have to end up trading one of those guys
01:24:48 before the deadline to gain a first line center.
01:24:51 - Yeah, all right, Biz, this has been awesome.
01:24:53 Last question, rollback question.
01:24:55 RHOBACK.com, use promo code TAKE,
01:24:57 20% off your first purchase.
01:24:58 Q-Zips, polos, hoodies, joggers, shorts.
01:25:01 Last question, rollback question.
01:25:02 What's the worst regime?
01:25:03 - I'm gonna look at the standings right now.
01:25:09 - One more time.
01:25:10 - Well, it's just hard.
01:25:13 I don't wanna be critical and then speak out of turn.
01:25:16 I look like a donkey.
01:25:17 - Let's do this.
01:25:18 What's a regime that's in transition?
01:25:21 That's a better way to put it.
01:25:23 They're in transition.
01:25:24 That's not good or bad.
01:25:25 That just means they're kinda figuring things out.
01:25:27 - Okay, we'll go back to Columbus
01:25:30 with the fact that the current regime
01:25:33 was the one who vetted,
01:25:35 and I say that with quotation marks,
01:25:37 Babcock to bring him back in.
01:25:39 And then he didn't even end up coaching
01:25:42 a game for that team.
01:25:43 He got fired before he'd even coached a game.
01:25:47 The Yarmouk-Kekelein and the GM
01:25:50 was just fired not too long ago.
01:25:53 And they're in the midst of looking for a new GM.
01:25:56 And then Davidson is currently stepped in.
01:26:00 So I would say Columbus right now
01:26:02 is one that is looking to reestablish,
01:26:04 but they've had a tough go for as long as I can remember.
01:26:09 So they've never really had an incredible regime.
01:26:13 Although I think that Yarmouk did a great job there,
01:26:16 and I heard he's an unbelievable guy,
01:26:18 that is just one that is facing some turbulence right now.
01:26:21 - That's a good answer.
01:26:22 If Mike Babcock saw you on the street,
01:26:24 would it be on site?
01:26:25 Would he try to fight you?
01:26:26 - I don't know.
01:26:28 I got nothing against,
01:26:29 I have nothing personal against this guy other than,
01:26:32 bud, you got fired for being a fucking idiot
01:26:35 and abusing your power.
01:26:36 You went away and said,
01:26:38 you dug deep.
01:26:42 You went and did some soul searching,
01:26:43 and you figured it all out.
01:26:45 And then now you're looking at dick pics
01:26:46 in your players' phones.
01:26:48 You're seeing your players' wives' mama-jamas
01:26:52 jammed up when they're on the road,
01:26:53 and maybe they wanted a little pick-me-up
01:26:55 for a tug at the hotel room,
01:26:57 and now you're looking at it.
01:26:58 Come on, man.
01:26:59 - So maybe that's the lesson in all of this,
01:27:01 don't get help.
01:27:02 If he had never gone and got help,
01:27:04 and just been like, yeah, I'm still a dick,
01:27:07 then there's no story.
01:27:08 - I, hey, chestnut checkers, right?
01:27:12 (laughing)
01:27:13 You're onto something there.
01:27:14 - He's like, hey, guys, I'm Mike Babcock.
01:27:16 I'm a huge fucking asshole.
01:27:17 - What kind of help do you get where you go,
01:27:19 you're like checking the therapy,
01:27:20 and you're like, yeah, I can't stop looking at pictures
01:27:22 of my players' cell phones.
01:27:24 That's not, I don't think that's something
01:27:25 that psychiatrists are equipped to deal with.
01:27:28 - That's true.
01:27:29 I think that's a one-off.
01:27:31 And going back to what you said, Big Cat,
01:27:33 then I guess you would just be Urban Meyer.
01:27:35 - Yeah, that's true.
01:27:37 Yeah, no, just stay being a dick.
01:27:38 Yeah, yeah. - Just own it.
01:27:39 - Just own it.
01:27:40 - Biz, I have one theory I wanna throw at you.
01:27:41 I get one caps question per hockey interview.
01:27:45 - I love it.
01:27:45 - With the OV goal chase, which is,
01:27:47 that's what I'm rooting for now,
01:27:48 is I'm an Alexander Ovechkin fan.
01:27:50 I wanna see him score, I wanna see him pass Wayne Gretzky.
01:27:53 It feels like the league has not really been all in,
01:27:56 like promoting the accomplishment when you weigh it
01:27:59 against how great of an accomplishment that it is.
01:28:01 It feels like-- - Buddy, we're fucking
01:28:02 two years away from him breaking it.
01:28:04 What are you talking about?
01:28:05 - I don't know if it's two years.
01:28:06 How many more goals does he have left?
01:28:08 - He needs to get a little over 50.
01:28:10 I wanna say he's at like 51 or 52.
01:28:13 At his age, he's not scoring 50 goals next year.
01:28:17 - My theory, though, is that the NHL is not promoting
01:28:21 as much because of the whole Putin connection.
01:28:24 What do you think about that?
01:28:26 - No, because every time we have Washington
01:28:28 on the broadcast and we do,
01:28:30 it's the first thing we talk about.
01:28:32 We put him on the ISO cam on the ice.
01:28:34 This guy's about to break the record.
01:28:36 Like, what do you want them to do?
01:28:37 - I'd like a parade every time he scores a goal.
01:28:40 I'd like just--
01:28:41 - Well, the other thing, too, is what one of the stories
01:28:44 was at the beginning of the year.
01:28:45 He wasn't scoring and he was looking slow
01:28:47 and all of a sudden people were worried
01:28:49 as to whether he would even break it.
01:28:51 So, if anything, they were helping him out
01:28:52 by not drawing too much attention to it.
01:28:54 - Yeah.
01:28:55 - And now-- - I should be thanking you.
01:28:57 Thank you, Paul.
01:28:58 Thank you. - Thank you.
01:28:59 - You're welcome.
01:29:00 But as of late, he went on an eight-game goal-scoring streak.
01:29:03 So now he's back in that trend.
01:29:06 So he's got two years left after this year on his contract.
01:29:10 I think next year he'll probably get, whatever,
01:29:12 30, 35 goals.
01:29:14 And then the following year is when you're really
01:29:16 gonna see this kind of parade, as you're describing, start.
01:29:20 It's gonna be a stroke-off, fast double-wrister,
01:29:23 (imitates gun firing)
01:29:24 every goddamn game that he's on the broadcast.
01:29:26 - I love that you did this whole interview in your bed.
01:29:28 - I'll put mascara on it and give him the double-wrister
01:29:32 right before you, buddy, okay?
01:29:34 - All right, appreciate that.
01:29:35 Thank you, Biz.
01:29:36 - Give him a, what's up?
01:29:37 - No, I appreciate that.
01:29:39 I was gonna say thank you.
01:29:40 - Yeah, no, you can keep going.
01:29:41 - Speak it up.
01:29:42 (imitates gun firing)
01:29:42 Did you guys send the Drake video?
01:29:44 How big's his heart?
01:29:45 - I will send it, but it's a federal crime to send it.
01:29:47 I'll still send it, though.
01:29:49 - Oh, you can't.
01:29:51 Oh, how about this one?
01:29:52 I don't know if you guys heard this story.
01:29:53 So, guy who got picked off by waivers
01:29:58 for the Arizona Coyotes, they had a gala night
01:30:02 to raise money for charity.
01:30:03 I think he'd only played three games for the team.
01:30:06 And I don't know if he was trying to send this video
01:30:09 to his buddies via DM.
01:30:11 I don't know if he was trying to text it to 'em,
01:30:13 but he was just so banged up.
01:30:15 But he had a video of a plate of cocaine with his Amex card.
01:30:20 And then he showed it and then switched it around
01:30:24 to the selfie style, and then he's chomping on the vial
01:30:27 that had more cocaine in it.
01:30:29 - Oh, no.
01:30:30 - He's engaged.
01:30:30 He got put on waivers.
01:30:32 He's done.
01:30:33 And the team was 0-9 and won their last 10.
01:30:38 You can't be flexing vials like Kuznetsov.
01:30:41 Like you just won a medal at the Olympics or something.
01:30:44 Only Caps players can get away with that, right, PFT?
01:30:48 - Yeah, no, that's a Putin connection.
01:30:50 Again, yeah.
01:30:51 All right, well, Piz, hopefully we see you soon, right?
01:30:54 Are you gonna come to the office?
01:30:55 We're gonna see you soon?
01:30:56 - Yeah, if I'm not too tired.
01:30:58 - Okay, all right.
01:30:58 (laughing)
01:31:00 He did do this in bed, so you can go,
01:31:01 you can just shut your eyes right now
01:31:03 and take a little nap.
01:31:04 - You might have mono.
01:31:04 - That's actually all I do now.
01:31:06 I do interviews on podcasts, and then the minute I'm done,
01:31:09 I go back to sleep and go to my next one.
01:31:11 (laughing)
01:31:12 - Well, we love you, Piz.
01:31:13 Thank you, we'll have you back on come playoff time,
01:31:16 and you're the best, man.
01:31:17 - I love you guys.
01:31:18 Hey, guys out there, don't be posting
01:31:20 your coke habits on Instagram.
01:31:23 - Yeah, no.
01:31:24 - And don't be doing it in general.
01:31:25 Too much fentanyl out there.
01:31:26 - Yeah.
01:31:27 - Smoke some dope.
01:31:28 - Yeah. - Good point.
01:31:28 - Good point.
01:31:29 That's your drug message for Piz.
01:31:31 (laughing)
01:31:31 - All right, see ya, Piz.
01:31:33 Okay, we now welcome on a recurring guest,
01:31:35 very special guest.
01:31:37 It is Jay Billis from ESPN.
01:31:38 You can hear him.
01:31:39 It is his time of year.
01:31:41 We're getting closer and closer
01:31:43 to March Conference Championship Week.
01:31:45 College basketball is front and center.
01:31:48 Jay, I wanna do this 'cause we like you.
01:31:52 I wanna do this in as respectful way as possible
01:31:56 to have this debate.
01:31:57 Why are you trying to arrest college kids?
01:32:01 - I'm not trying to arrest college kids.
01:32:03 (laughing)
01:32:05 And I'm sure you guys are among the masses
01:32:07 for which nuances this thing you can't grasp.
01:32:12 But all I said was, we're not changing court storming.
01:32:15 It's not gonna stop.
01:32:17 They don't wanna stop it.
01:32:18 So when they say they do, they're not telling the truth.
01:32:21 If they wanted to stop it, they could stop it tomorrow.
01:32:24 That's when I said the thing about,
01:32:27 you could just issue citations.
01:32:29 Nobody would do that anymore.
01:32:31 If they wanted to stop it, it's not that big of a deal.
01:32:33 They don't wanna stop it
01:32:34 because they like the visual of it.
01:32:36 And it sounds like you guys do too.
01:32:39 But I mean, being completely honest about it,
01:32:41 it's not part of the game.
01:32:43 Like the game's over.
01:32:45 And if you think about, like, let me ask you guys,
01:32:48 what's the best place in America and the most passionate,
01:32:52 and the one place you'd wanna see a basketball game?
01:32:55 - The USS Intrepid.
01:32:58 - I would say-- - Aircraft carrier.
01:32:59 - I would say Wake Forest standing at center court
01:33:02 after they beat Duke.
01:33:03 (laughing)
01:33:05 That'd be the number one.
01:33:07 - So it wouldn't be Allen Fieldhouse at Kansas?
01:33:09 - I guess, yeah, Allen Fieldhouse.
01:33:10 Yeah, that would be pretty good.
01:33:12 - When was the last court storming they had there?
01:33:13 - Well, they're really, really good.
01:33:16 When was the last time Kansas has been court stormed on?
01:33:18 Yeah, because they're really good.
01:33:20 - I guess if Kansas was an underdog at home
01:33:22 and you had like the number one team
01:33:24 in the country coming in,
01:33:25 and Kansas was ranked somewhere between 10 and 25,
01:33:28 and they won at home, I could see them storming the court.
01:33:30 - No, 'cause that's happened.
01:33:32 That's happened there.
01:33:33 It doesn't happen.
01:33:34 - Okay, what if Kansas sucks for a decade?
01:33:36 - They beat UConn.
01:33:37 They beat UConn early in the year.
01:33:38 It doesn't happen.
01:33:39 - Yeah. - My point is,
01:33:40 it's the best environment for a game,
01:33:43 and they don't have that.
01:33:44 It doesn't change the fact that it's incredibly passionate.
01:33:47 Have you guys been there?
01:33:49 - I have not, I want to.
01:33:50 It's a bucket list for me, for sure.
01:33:52 - It's freaking unbelievable.
01:33:53 It's unbelievable.
01:33:54 Before the game, there are very few places I go
01:33:57 to broadcast a game, where right before the game,
01:34:00 I have my phone up to get video of it,
01:34:04 'cause it's so cool.
01:34:05 The court storming thing, look,
01:34:08 I'm not gonna talk people out.
01:34:09 If you love it, I'm not trying to talk you out of it.
01:34:12 My perspective is fans don't belong on the court ever,
01:34:16 and players don't belong in the stands ever.
01:34:19 I don't think that's a controversial thing.
01:34:21 If you guys want to do that, then do it.
01:34:23 I'm not trying to talk you out of it,
01:34:25 but don't tell me we can't stop it.
01:34:27 - Yeah. - If we want to.
01:34:28 - It's interesting, because every conference
01:34:30 has such different rules when it comes
01:34:32 to enforcing penalties about court storming.
01:34:34 Like, you've got some conferences,
01:34:36 I think the SEC is the most hardcore,
01:34:39 where they fine you like $100,000
01:34:41 for the first time you do it.
01:34:42 And then there are some conferences where it's like,
01:34:44 yeah, we just don't have rules about that.
01:34:46 If there was like a uniform rule,
01:34:48 that might help a little bit, but I think,
01:34:50 you're right, it's not-- - Wouldn't help at all.
01:34:51 Wouldn't help at all, because the SEC,
01:34:54 they're happy to pay it.
01:34:56 Did you guys see what happened
01:34:57 in South Carolina earlier this year?
01:34:58 South Carolina wins a game, I don't know who they beat.
01:35:00 Maybe they beat Kentucky, I don't even remember.
01:35:03 They stormed the court.
01:35:04 One of the people storming the court
01:35:05 was the President Emeritus of the university.
01:35:08 And he put out video, he put out--
01:35:10 - That rocks. - Yeah, that's cool though.
01:35:12 - That's rock. - Social media.
01:35:13 - Can you admit that that's-- - Go ahead.
01:35:14 - That's kind of awesome. - You can like it
01:35:16 or not like it.
01:35:17 All I'm saying is, don't tell me that they want to stop it.
01:35:22 They don't.
01:35:23 They said they were happy to pay the fine.
01:35:25 - Okay. - They want the visual.
01:35:27 They use it in recruiting.
01:35:28 They love it, great.
01:35:30 You can love it.
01:35:31 I'm not trying to talk anybody out of loving it.
01:35:34 Love it all you want to.
01:35:35 And but like when they say,
01:35:37 "Oh, the NBA doesn't have the same kind of passion."
01:35:39 How old are you guys?
01:35:40 You guys remember the 1980s
01:35:41 when Larry Bird couldn't get off the floor
01:35:43 after they beat the Lakers in the garden?
01:35:46 Like they stopped all that stuff
01:35:47 'cause it's dangerous, man.
01:35:49 - Yeah, it is. - And it's dangerous now.
01:35:51 And we've had significant injuries over the years
01:35:55 to fans, some to players.
01:35:57 And we've already had two instances this year
01:36:00 with Kaitlin Clark and Kyle Filipowski.
01:36:02 It's something bad's gonna happen.
01:36:04 And when it does,
01:36:05 we're gonna have the audacity to be surprised at it.
01:36:08 - No, I will not be surprised.
01:36:11 I won't be a hypocrite.
01:36:13 We should say though, Kaitlin Clark and Kyle Filipowski
01:36:15 both did not get injured.
01:36:16 Kyle Filipowski did not get injured.
01:36:18 He's sore.
01:36:19 He was an ankle. - That's an injury.
01:36:21 - It was an ankle, then a knee,
01:36:24 then no-- - No, it wasn't.
01:36:25 No, it wasn't.
01:36:27 John Shire misspoke.
01:36:29 It was a knee.
01:36:30 He misspoke at a press conference
01:36:31 'cause he didn't have all the information.
01:36:33 - Well, he's playing on Tuesday.
01:36:34 - And neither did we.
01:36:35 - He's playing tonight.
01:36:36 The only thing with the Kansas thing,
01:36:38 I think that's a little disingenuous
01:36:39 because Kansas is Kansas and there's only one Kansas.
01:36:42 There are certain blue bloods in the country.
01:36:44 - It's not disingenuous.
01:36:45 It's not disingenuous.
01:36:46 - But there's certain blue bloods in the country.
01:36:49 - Disingenuous means lying.
01:36:50 - Okay, but there's certain blue, no, but okay.
01:36:52 So then tell me whatever word that you want to use there.
01:36:55 I think that you're using a very specific example of Kansas
01:36:59 to prove a wider point
01:37:00 that doesn't really apply to anyone else.
01:37:02 Kansas is Kansas.
01:37:04 Like they are a blue blood.
01:37:06 They have a storage tradition.
01:37:07 Court storming, yeah, of course it doesn't happen at Kansas.
01:37:10 It happens everywhere else.
01:37:11 It's fun.
01:37:12 It's college sports. - It doesn't happen
01:37:13 everywhere else. - Okay.
01:37:14 - It does not happen
01:37:15 everywhere else. - It doesn't happen
01:37:16 with the blue bloods.
01:37:17 You're right.
01:37:18 It doesn't happen with the blue bloods.
01:37:19 It happens in 90% of the stadiums in the country
01:37:22 and it is fun.
01:37:22 - You were just disingenuous there.
01:37:24 You said it happens everywhere else.
01:37:26 - All right, it happens 90%.
01:37:28 That's better.
01:37:29 All right, and Kyle Filibowski did not get injured.
01:37:32 It is part of college sports.
01:37:33 It's college fans being passionate.
01:37:36 It is unique to the sport.
01:37:38 It's partly why I love the sport,
01:37:41 that you have this idea of an underdog at home.
01:37:44 I know Wake Forest was an underdog,
01:37:46 but a team knocking off a ranked opponent
01:37:49 and this big, incredible celebration of the game.
01:37:54 And I love it. - Can I interrupt for a second?
01:37:55 - I love every part of it. - Can I interrupt
01:37:56 for a second? - Yes.
01:37:57 - Can I interrupt for a second?
01:37:58 - Yes.
01:37:59 - What did I say at the beginning?
01:38:00 If you like it, I'm not gonna talk you out of it.
01:38:03 - Yeah. - I don't care
01:38:04 whether you like it or not.
01:38:04 That's great.
01:38:06 We can talk about ice cream flavors,
01:38:08 if you want next, and I like chocolate,
01:38:10 you don't, I don't care.
01:38:12 If you like it, that's great.
01:38:14 I'm not trying to talk anybody out of it.
01:38:16 If you wanna have court stormings at your school,
01:38:18 go ahead.
01:38:19 I don't care.
01:38:21 Just don't tell me you can't stop it.
01:38:23 Because that's what people are saying.
01:38:24 - That I agree with. - We can't stop it.
01:38:25 - No, that I agree with.
01:38:26 You could stop it.
01:38:27 I don't want them to stop it, but you're right.
01:38:28 You could stop it, so we can agree on that.
01:38:30 And I also think that the-- - But that's all I said.
01:38:33 - Kaitlin Clark and Kyle Filipowski did not get hurt.
01:38:35 So I was like-- - Kyle Filipowski, okay.
01:38:38 Now you said, first you said injured.
01:38:40 - Yeah. - So how do you define injury?
01:38:42 He got treatment over it.
01:38:45 So that doesn't mean injury.
01:38:46 - Don't think it's treatment after every game?
01:38:48 - It wasn't a, no, they don't.
01:38:49 It wasn't a catastrophic injury.
01:38:52 - Got it, sore. - But he got injured.
01:38:55 - I think that there will be a time
01:38:57 when something bad happens on the court.
01:38:59 And then I don't think that we're gonna look back
01:39:02 and say like, oh, we had no idea this would happen.
01:39:04 It's not, you're right, it's not part of the actual game
01:39:07 of basketball, but it's part of the bigger spectacle
01:39:10 of college basketball, which is,
01:39:13 I think it's good for the sport to have a fan base
01:39:16 so enthusiastic that they go on their court,
01:39:18 they celebrate with their team.
01:39:19 I actually have a way to solve this
01:39:21 that might be better than your idea of arresting everybody.
01:39:25 My idea is that you just allow the players
01:39:28 to punch people in the face if they get too close to them.
01:39:31 So you let the players defend themselves on the court,
01:39:34 and then you think twice,
01:39:35 then it becomes more of a fair fight.
01:39:37 - Well, I know you're joking, but--
01:39:39 - No, I'm actually serious.
01:39:41 - It would be kind of-- - They can do that now.
01:39:44 Like if Kyle Filipowski had decided,
01:39:46 or any player had decided they were gonna muscle
01:39:48 their way off the court, and they injured a fan,
01:39:51 there would be no, people would criticize it,
01:39:53 but there would be no action taken,
01:39:55 'cause Kyle Filipowski or whatever player
01:39:58 belongs out there and the fans don't.
01:40:00 So you talk about assuming the risk.
01:40:02 - Yeah, exactly, as a fan--
01:40:03 - But there's one thing that happened there.
01:40:06 We showed all that in slow motion,
01:40:08 and people were trying to break it down
01:40:10 like the Zapruder film.
01:40:11 When you show it in fast motion,
01:40:13 they were coming at him in a hurry.
01:40:15 I don't know what was said or what,
01:40:18 all the stuff that went into that,
01:40:20 but I know that the way everybody reacted,
01:40:24 that was not just people passing by each other
01:40:26 like they were in a New York City street.
01:40:28 - Yeah, no, I don't put any blame
01:40:30 on Kyle Filipowski in this.
01:40:31 I think that, we can agree on that.
01:40:34 Like people who are breaking it down
01:40:36 being like he shoved this guy.
01:40:37 Like you can look at that situation
01:40:41 and you could ask 100 people
01:40:42 and it could be 50 people seeing it one way,
01:40:44 50 people seeing it the other.
01:40:45 People will never agree on that.
01:40:47 Is there a part of you though, Jay,
01:40:49 like you played at Duke, obviously.
01:40:51 You weren't part of the student section.
01:40:54 Is there a part of you that might have
01:40:55 a little bit of a blind spot?
01:40:56 Like we're speaking from the perspective
01:40:58 of the regular fan.
01:40:59 Like I remember when I was at Wisconsin,
01:41:01 we stormed a court for a game,
01:41:03 stormed a football field for a game.
01:41:05 Like those are memories that I'll have forever.
01:41:08 Is there maybe a little bit of a blind spot here
01:41:10 where you're the player's perspective,
01:41:12 we're the fan's perspective
01:41:13 and that's where the disconnect is?
01:41:15 - No.
01:41:16 - Okay.
01:41:17 - I mean, I don't know how many times I can say this.
01:41:20 I'm not trying to talk you out of liking it.
01:41:22 If you wanna do it, I'm not gonna stop you.
01:41:25 I don't care.
01:41:26 Go ahead.
01:41:27 You know, I don't understand what the problem is
01:41:30 in this discussion.
01:41:31 You know, you seem to be coming at me with--
01:41:33 - No, I'm not.
01:41:34 I'm not. - My perspective.
01:41:35 I don't think it's necessary.
01:41:39 I tend to put the participants' safety above,
01:41:43 you know, like your liking it or your memory and all that.
01:41:47 If you wanna do it, that's great.
01:41:48 - Yeah.
01:41:49 - But so there are a lot of different solutions
01:41:51 we could have.
01:41:52 We could say, you go with some of the people who've said,
01:41:55 "How about we have a one minute period
01:41:57 to let everybody get off the floor?"
01:41:59 You know, why just one minute?
01:42:00 You know, they can't shake hands,
01:42:02 they can't interact afterwards.
01:42:03 Players can't sort of celebrate together.
01:42:05 I don't know.
01:42:06 So we're gonna put a shot clock on it
01:42:09 or then we say, "Okay, we'll cordon off the players,"
01:42:11 which some do so they can do their handshake line,
01:42:13 everybody can jump around.
01:42:15 There are a million things that you could do
01:42:18 to make it a little bit safer.
01:42:20 Million things you could do.
01:42:22 All I said was, "Don't tell me we can't stop it."
01:42:26 They don't wanna stop it.
01:42:27 That's my main point.
01:42:29 They don't wanna stop it.
01:42:30 They want the visual.
01:42:31 They're not worried.
01:42:33 Like the administrators don't care
01:42:35 about the fact that you liked it.
01:42:37 They don't care.
01:42:38 They want the visual of that
01:42:40 'cause they take pictures of it and video
01:42:42 and they put it up all over their materials
01:42:44 and their locker rooms and all that stuff
01:42:46 so they can sell it.
01:42:48 That's the business they're in.
01:42:50 But you can't, like, I think it's contradictory
01:42:54 to say player safety is number one,
01:42:56 but where court stormings are okay.
01:42:59 Those two things don't go together
01:43:01 'cause the players are gonna get hurt
01:43:02 and the fans are gonna get hurt.
01:43:04 And the fact that it doesn't happen more often,
01:43:06 we've been lucky.
01:43:07 We've been lucky.
01:43:08 - Yeah.
01:43:09 I do think we disagree to disagree on parts of this,
01:43:11 but I'm not trying to come at you.
01:43:13 I respect where you're coming from
01:43:15 where it's like you are right
01:43:16 that if they wanted to stop it, they could stop it.
01:43:18 We totally agree on that.
01:43:19 - And it seems like they're setting themselves up
01:43:22 for a future lawsuit,
01:43:24 the way that you're framing this right now,
01:43:25 the way, if you think about it
01:43:26 from the perspective of a college administrator
01:43:29 and they are turning a blind eye to it
01:43:32 and you're saying at some point
01:43:33 somebody's gonna get hurt,
01:43:34 there's enough of a paper trail there
01:43:36 that exists already to the point
01:43:38 where they could be held liable
01:43:40 for an injury that happens to a player on the court
01:43:41 like you should have known better,
01:43:43 which is why I think that they eventually will change.
01:43:45 I know that they like it.
01:43:46 They like the visual,
01:43:47 but I do think that the rule is gonna change
01:43:49 just because now you've got lawyers
01:43:51 that are going to be involved
01:43:52 and you should have known better at the time.
01:43:53 - They've already been involved.
01:43:54 They've already been involved.
01:43:55 They've known this for decades.
01:43:58 They know it.
01:43:58 So do we stop short of terror?
01:44:01 What do we do in football?
01:44:02 Is it okay to tear the goalposts down and carry those off?
01:44:06 I don't know.
01:44:07 Do whatever you want.
01:44:09 That's their school.
01:44:10 I don't care what they do.
01:44:11 That's their school.
01:44:13 But it would be in my role
01:44:16 when somebody asked me my opinion, I give it.
01:44:18 And I'm not trying to talk,
01:44:21 again, I'm not trying to talk you out of liking it.
01:44:23 People can think that that's the greatest thing ever
01:44:25 and I wouldn't watch a game
01:44:27 if they couldn't storm the court.
01:44:28 That's fine.
01:44:29 Do whatever you want.
01:44:30 But my thing was, it's pretty simple.
01:44:33 Players don't belong in the stands
01:44:35 and fans don't belong on the court.
01:44:38 And are they allowed to run out 10 seconds before
01:44:41 while they're dribbling out the clock?
01:44:43 Where do we draw any lines here?
01:44:46 What about, and I asked this of a friend of mine.
01:44:48 I said, what if in the Duke Carolina game
01:44:51 in Chapel Hill earlier this year,
01:44:53 what if Duke had won?
01:44:54 Could their fans have run out on the court
01:44:55 and celebrated the Duke win?
01:44:57 They would have been wrestled to the ground by security.
01:45:00 - That would have been funny.
01:45:01 - That would have been fun.
01:45:02 Wouldn't that have been a fun thing?
01:45:04 What a great memory for them.
01:45:05 - Yeah.
01:45:06 No, that would have been fun.
01:45:07 That would have been fun to watch
01:45:08 like a smattering of Duke fans try to get out there
01:45:13 and just have like a battle royale.
01:45:14 That would have been fun.
01:45:15 - It would have been great.
01:45:16 (laughing)
01:45:18 - Can we find some common ground
01:45:19 when it comes to storming fields, storming courts?
01:45:21 Because you mentioned tearing the goalposts down.
01:45:24 When Tennessee did that the other year
01:45:26 and they carried the goalposts with them
01:45:27 through downtown Knoxville, threw it into the river.
01:45:30 Can we just admit that that was awesome?
01:45:32 That's pretty fun.
01:45:33 - It's fun.
01:45:35 I mean, it's fun to do a lot of things.
01:45:39 It's fun to do a lot of illegal things.
01:45:40 - Yeah, it's fun to do hood rat shit with your friends.
01:45:43 - Yeah, no, it is.
01:45:44 - Like I'm not arguing any of these points.
01:45:48 I'm not gonna tell you what you think is fun.
01:45:50 You can think whatever is fun that you want.
01:45:52 - Okay, I actually think we agree more
01:45:54 than we disagree here.
01:45:55 Like I respect your-
01:45:57 - Took you a long time to get there.
01:45:58 - Well, I think you also kind of got,
01:46:00 you kind of, you conceded that we're funny
01:46:02 and we have some good ideas.
01:46:04 - You got here.
01:46:04 We're both getting there.
01:46:05 We're switching back and forth, but we're getting there.
01:46:07 - No, this happened, you met us.
01:46:10 No, no, you met us a little bit
01:46:11 'cause I think you, you know, if you were a fan,
01:46:14 you would storm the court.
01:46:15 I know you would.
01:46:16 - I also think, Jay, maybe-
01:46:17 - I've never been a fan.
01:46:18 - Right, see, you haven't.
01:46:20 - Maybe a little bit.
01:46:21 Maybe just a little bit of it has to do
01:46:24 with the fact that you went to Duke.
01:46:25 Maybe a tiny, tiny bit.
01:46:27 - All right, I hate to break this to you,
01:46:30 but we talked about this three weeks ago
01:46:33 on college game day.
01:46:34 You can go back and look at it.
01:46:36 It's all out there.
01:46:37 It's all over social media.
01:46:39 And I said the exact same things I told you.
01:46:42 Players don't belong in the stands.
01:46:44 Fans don't belong on the court.
01:46:45 Somebody's going to get hurt and we're going to act surprised
01:46:47 and it's going to be an issue for a little while.
01:46:49 And then we're never going to stop it.
01:46:50 I said this three weeks ago.
01:46:53 And then it just so happened, three weeks later,
01:46:57 like I'm not an I told you so guy,
01:47:00 but all of it came true.
01:47:01 - Well, except for the hurt part.
01:47:02 - Now he got hurt and maybe the injury wasn't enough for you.
01:47:07 So I'll come and sprain your knee
01:47:11 and then you claim that I'm fine.
01:47:13 - I don't.
01:47:13 - I live life with two sprained knees.
01:47:15 - Yeah.
01:47:16 - Yeah, all right.
01:47:17 So I've been healthy for years.
01:47:18 - So Jay, let's talk a little other college ball.
01:47:21 We'll put this to bed.
01:47:22 What you obviously, you call the games, you watch the game.
01:47:26 You're part of the game.
01:47:29 Give me a team or two that you've seen.
01:47:32 There are always, it always happens late February,
01:47:34 early March, that is starting to play their best ball.
01:47:37 And maybe there's a national thought of like,
01:47:41 oh, we saw this team in Thanksgiving.
01:47:43 We saw this team early in January.
01:47:44 They aren't good.
01:47:45 But if you're not watching out for them,
01:47:47 they're starting to put it all together
01:47:49 night in and night out.
01:47:50 - I think Illinois is starting to trend in that direction.
01:47:53 I thought they were really good at the start of the year.
01:47:55 And then Terrence Shannon Jr.
01:47:57 was charged with a felony in Kansas.
01:47:59 And then through some legal maneuvering, got reinstated.
01:48:04 They're starting to look like
01:48:07 they could do some real damage there.
01:48:08 They don't have a true point guard,
01:48:09 which some people think is a big problem.
01:48:11 I don't think it's a big problem.
01:48:13 South Florida is another team that's trending
01:48:15 a little bit like Florida Atlantic did last year,
01:48:17 even though they're in a bigger conference this year
01:48:19 than Florida Atlantic was last year.
01:48:21 And actually, I think Florida Atlantic's probably
01:48:23 a better team this year than they were last year.
01:48:26 They're in a different league.
01:48:28 So their record isn't quite as good.
01:48:30 They've played a much more different schedule
01:48:32 than they did last year,
01:48:33 but they've got basically the same players.
01:48:34 And not many teams have a seven footer like Vlad Golden
01:48:38 that he can go toe to toe with anybody.
01:48:40 As long as he stays out of foul trouble,
01:48:42 their efficiency numbers are off the charts.
01:48:45 Those are the ones that come to mind,
01:48:46 but the real surprises, you can't call out in advance
01:48:50 'cause they're surprises.
01:48:52 But there are some teams that I think have a better chance.
01:48:57 I'll be interested to see, this year it's been,
01:49:00 we've had more sort of top 10 teams,
01:49:04 which we go by the eight people,
01:49:06 which I'm not sure is a very good measure, frankly,
01:49:09 but that have been beaten by unranked teams this year.
01:49:13 And I think we're getting toward the record,
01:49:16 but it seems like there have been more than normal.
01:49:19 And so we're saying a lot of,
01:49:20 man, the tournament's gonna be wild.
01:49:23 And anytime we say the tournament's gonna be wild,
01:49:25 it isn't wild.
01:49:27 And anytime we think we got it knocked, then it's crazy.
01:49:30 So we'll see what happens,
01:49:32 but the tournament is a different animal
01:49:34 than the regular season.
01:49:35 And people tend to forget this,
01:49:37 but when the thing's bracketed
01:49:40 and you've got your path, your first two weekends,
01:49:45 in your region, one of the things to remember
01:49:48 is 75% of the best teams in the country
01:49:50 aren't in your region.
01:49:52 And last year, Florida Atlantic
01:49:53 should have been out in the first round.
01:49:55 They were one egregious Memphis turnover
01:50:00 at the end of the game for being out in the first round.
01:50:02 And then they move on to the second round
01:50:04 and Purdue inexplicably got beat by Fairleigh Dickinson.
01:50:09 So that's a pretty good first weekend to survive Memphis
01:50:12 and then have to play a 16 seed in the second round.
01:50:15 So things happen in the tournament that are unusual
01:50:18 and you get a benefit by kind of what happens
01:50:22 in your bracket.
01:50:23 - Yeah, Jay, I want to give you credit for something
01:50:26 and not come at you at all for this.
01:50:27 In fact, we've kind of agreed with you
01:50:29 over the last several years.
01:50:30 You've been fighting the good fight
01:50:32 about players getting paid,
01:50:33 about the NCAA artificially deflating
01:50:35 players' value and worth
01:50:37 and all the stuff that they've been up to
01:50:39 for the last, feels like 40, 50 years.
01:50:42 So you were ahead of the curve on that.
01:50:43 You were the loudest, I think,
01:50:44 in the media that's been speaking about it
01:50:46 for the longest amount of time.
01:50:47 Now we're in a place where it's kind of like no rules
01:50:50 and the NCAA still feels like
01:50:53 they have a need to enforce rules that don't exist.
01:50:56 If you were the commissioner of the NCAA,
01:50:59 if you were in charge of everything,
01:51:00 where would you go moving forward
01:51:02 in terms of setting any rules up regarding NIL?
01:51:05 Is it your place to do that
01:51:07 as a collegiate sports organization?
01:51:09 Or what do you think that the future should look like
01:51:12 with players and their ability to get paid
01:51:13 and how it affects their college careers?
01:51:16 - Yeah, it's an interesting question.
01:51:18 There wouldn't be any rules.
01:51:20 I would have it operate just like normal business does.
01:51:23 If there were no rules
01:51:24 and the schools could just pay the athletes directly,
01:51:28 the natural consequence of that or probable consequences,
01:51:31 they would sign the players to multi-year contracts.
01:51:34 So you put a contract in front of a player.
01:51:35 If you can sign them to scholarship papers
01:51:38 and a national letter of attend,
01:51:40 you can sign them to a contract.
01:51:42 Sign them to a contract and say, if I'm signing one of you,
01:51:47 I put a contract in front of you and I say,
01:51:48 "Hey, here's a four-year deal for $500,000 a year
01:51:51 plus a scholarship."
01:51:53 And you would say, "I'm not sure I wanna stay four years.
01:51:55 I'll sign a two-year deal
01:51:57 and then we'll decide what to do that.
01:51:58 Or I'll give you an option for a third.
01:52:00 You negotiate that out."
01:52:01 And then I'll say, "But I wanna buy out in there."
01:52:05 So if you leave, if you go to the NBA
01:52:09 or you decide you wanna transfer to another school,
01:52:11 you're gonna owe me $500,000 a year.
01:52:14 - That's interesting. - Buy out, just like...
01:52:17 It would be normal business.
01:52:19 It's really not that difficult.
01:52:20 And then another school could say,
01:52:22 "We'll pay you 550 a year."
01:52:24 And then you have to determine which offer do I wanna take?
01:52:26 If money is the deciding factor.
01:52:29 Money is just a factor.
01:52:32 Maybe a lower offer isn't gonna stop you
01:52:34 from going to Kansas or Yukon or whatever.
01:52:37 It's really not that difficult.
01:52:39 And that way, the transfer portal is not as big of an issue.
01:52:42 It may not be an issue at all,
01:52:44 but at least that way you have some roster certainty
01:52:46 and cost certainty and everybody knows
01:52:48 what everybody else is worth.
01:52:49 It's not that big of a deal.
01:52:51 We do it with coaches, administrators.
01:52:53 And it's amazing how the rest of American business
01:52:56 can operate without guardrails
01:52:58 and Congress and all these things.
01:53:01 It's all nonsense.
01:53:02 The NCAA just wants to be able to continue
01:53:04 to violate federal antitrust law in doing their business.
01:53:07 And they're not gonna be able to do that anymore.
01:53:08 - That's it. - Yeah.
01:53:09 - It's an interesting take.
01:53:10 And I can see a world where that works.
01:53:12 Now, if that world does exist
01:53:14 and you're giving players multi-year contracts,
01:53:17 there would be an unintended consequence to that rule.
01:53:21 You would get five, six teams that are stacked,
01:53:24 loaded with talent, the ones with the big budgets.
01:53:27 And then it would just be a competition
01:53:29 between those five or six teams
01:53:30 every single year it feels like.
01:53:32 Now, that's not something that I don't think,
01:53:34 the law has no place.
01:53:36 Our laws in America have no place telling a player
01:53:38 what they're worth, what they're not worth.
01:53:40 But that is something that the sport
01:53:41 would have to reckon with,
01:53:42 would be just an overload of talent at the top.
01:53:44 And then the also-rans wouldn't have as much of a chance.
01:53:48 - I differ with that viewpoint.
01:53:50 I think most reasonable economists would tell you
01:53:53 that's not how it's going to work.
01:53:55 What money, what being able to pay is going to do
01:53:58 is spread talent around more.
01:53:59 It is not gonna concentrate talent.
01:54:02 If that were true,
01:54:03 all the best coaches would be on the same coaching staff.
01:54:08 - Yeah.
01:54:09 - They're not gonna do that.
01:54:10 - Well, I think-
01:54:11 - Nobody's gonna pay that way.
01:54:13 It's just simple economics and simple business.
01:54:15 Nobody's gonna do that.
01:54:16 You're not gonna have the three best quarterbacks
01:54:18 going to the same school.
01:54:19 Then that's not gonna happen.
01:54:21 What will happen, and it's more,
01:54:24 now you may have individual decisions
01:54:25 that vary a little bit.
01:54:27 But generally what will happen is
01:54:29 smaller schools with smaller budgets
01:54:31 can afford to pay more for somebody else's third best player
01:54:36 than they're willing to pay for that third best player.
01:54:39 And so you can be the best player somewhere else
01:54:42 and make more money
01:54:43 than if you're the third best player somewhere
01:54:45 at a bigger place and make less money.
01:54:49 And did I say less money before?
01:54:50 More money.
01:54:51 You make more money as the best player
01:54:53 at a smaller budget school
01:54:55 than you can make as the third best player
01:54:57 at a bigger budget school.
01:54:58 They might not be willing to pay you as much.
01:55:00 Talent will be spread around.
01:55:01 We've already seen it with NIL.
01:55:03 - Yeah.
01:55:04 - NIL and the transfer portal had spread talent around,
01:55:06 not concentrated it.
01:55:08 - I agree with you too just in the fact that
01:55:10 when everyone freaks out about NIL and they're like,
01:55:12 well, this school's gonna just pay every single recruit
01:55:15 this amount of money.
01:55:15 And it's like, well, where's the money coming from?
01:55:17 And will there be a point where
01:55:20 the people who are paying the money are like,
01:55:21 hey, you know what?
01:55:22 Investing in the 18 year old and their future
01:55:25 like in this situation, this two, three year situation
01:55:29 is maybe not the soundest investment over and over
01:55:32 where it's like they get a little gun shy
01:55:34 and then you have it kind of return to a normal level
01:55:37 where not one school is just paying
01:55:39 millions and millions of dollars every single year
01:55:41 to 18 year olds that are unproven.
01:55:43 - Well, they're going to do it.
01:55:45 They do it in the NFL, the NBA, they're gonna do it.
01:55:48 They're gonna pay for the best talent.
01:55:50 - The NFL is a little different because it's like you,
01:55:52 I mean, well, it's actually set up with contracts.
01:55:54 - I think it's already happening in college.
01:55:56 - We're talking about contracts.
01:55:57 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:55:58 It's already happening in college football a little bit
01:55:59 where you have these NIL collectives and--
01:56:02 - Correct.
01:56:03 - They get players in and they put a lot of money
01:56:05 towards them and then they can go into the portal.
01:56:07 - Right.
01:56:08 - With this and then they're like, wait,
01:56:08 I just paid $500,000 for one year of a player.
01:56:12 In this situation where you have the contract
01:56:14 in front of you, I actually do agree with you.
01:56:16 I think that multi-year contracts
01:56:18 and setting it up like any other business in America
01:56:20 is probably the best way to go about it.
01:56:21 But I also think that the NCAA and the group,
01:56:25 the school presidents that get together inside these rules,
01:56:27 they like having as much control
01:56:29 over the players as possible.
01:56:31 And they're not gonna give that up lightly.
01:56:33 So they keep inventing new rules for themselves to enforce.
01:56:35 - Yeah, but the problem is they violate
01:56:38 federal antitrust law by doing it.
01:56:40 And there's a court case coming down the tracks,
01:56:43 Adam, called the House case.
01:56:45 They're going to lose that case and that's for revenue.
01:56:49 The players are suing for revenue.
01:56:50 So the NCAA stands to lose about four to $5 billion
01:56:54 in that case and they're going to lose and they know it.
01:56:58 That's why they're begging Congress
01:56:59 for an antitrust exemption and for federal law.
01:57:02 They're gonna lose.
01:57:03 And when they do lose, who's gonna pay it?
01:57:07 How are they gonna get the money?
01:57:08 Where's the money gonna come from?
01:57:10 They're gonna take it from the member institutions.
01:57:12 And there's still inertia
01:57:15 and there's still a lack of movement for,
01:57:18 one, they should go to Jeffrey Kessler
01:57:20 who's litigating that case on behalf of the players.
01:57:24 They should go and try to settle that case
01:57:26 and work out a framework with Kessler
01:57:28 that everybody can live with.
01:57:29 But if this keeps going the way it is,
01:57:32 the NCAA is, they could cease to exist at some point.
01:57:35 - What about who's gonna pay it?
01:57:36 Courtstorming fines.
01:57:38 - Well, that comes from the individual schools.
01:57:40 - Yeah. - Yeah, yeah.
01:57:42 - Okay. - And they love it.
01:57:43 - Now we got a perfect ecosystem.
01:57:45 - Set up an NIL collective.
01:57:47 I just want to cover all the courtstorming.
01:57:49 - Yes, yes.
01:57:50 - The courtstorming collective.
01:57:51 - Yes.
01:57:52 - And then it sounds like all the fans like you
01:57:55 that have this great memory will pony up.
01:57:58 So I think you should make a donation.
01:58:00 - I will. - Right now.
01:58:01 - I'll leave it for the front. - 10%.
01:58:02 - Yeah. - Yeah, 10% of your salary
01:58:04 a year should cover it.
01:58:05 - Done. - Yeah.
01:58:06 - Easy. - I do think,
01:58:08 so Jay, I mean, we can admit that like
01:58:10 the act of storming a court, it can be fun for some people.
01:58:14 Some other people don't like it,
01:58:15 but let's not discount the fact that it does add
01:58:18 to the environment of college sports, right?
01:58:21 It improves, I think, the sport overall,
01:58:24 the image that we have of college basketball.
01:58:27 It's hand in hand with this fan passion
01:58:30 and the memories that people do have
01:58:32 when they're at schools.
01:58:33 They become, the love for the sport
01:58:35 becomes more ingrained in them for the rest of their lives.
01:58:37 And it ends up helping the sport a little bit
01:58:39 with revenue over the next 20, 30 years.
01:58:42 Big Cat's still a huge Wisconsin fan,
01:58:44 not because he stormed the court,
01:58:45 not because he stormed the field,
01:58:47 but it adds into that collective memory
01:58:49 that he has about his time there.
01:58:50 - Yeah. - And makes more passionate fans
01:58:52 in the longterm, which I do think is beneficial
01:58:55 for the overall game.
01:58:56 - Good point. - Thank you.
01:58:58 - I don't agree with that.
01:58:59 I think if it ended tomorrow,
01:59:01 we would see the same passion and the same ratings
01:59:04 and the same level of engagement that we always see.
01:59:07 We don't lead with that.
01:59:10 It's an interesting thing that happens.
01:59:13 They do like the visual, but they use it individually.
01:59:17 Each individual school uses it for their own purposes.
01:59:19 That's great, keep doing it.
01:59:21 I mean, I don't think it matters one bit
01:59:26 because it hasn't changed anything
01:59:28 in the popularity of the NFL.
01:59:29 They used to storm the field in the NFL.
01:59:31 They don't do it anymore because they've stopped it.
01:59:35 They deem player safety and the safety of others
01:59:38 more important, fan safety, all that, that's more important.
01:59:41 So that's fine.
01:59:42 I mean, look, I'm not arguing with you.
01:59:45 I'm not trying to change your perspective
01:59:49 on what you like and what you don't like.
01:59:52 That's fine with me.
01:59:53 Now, the thing about whether it,
01:59:57 we're gonna see a dip in fan interest if we stop it.
02:00:02 I don't think we will,
02:00:03 'cause the overwhelming majority of the games
02:00:04 don't have one anyway.
02:00:05 - Yeah, all right, I got two last questions for you, Jay.
02:00:08 We appreciate it.
02:00:08 This is a good discussion.
02:00:09 We're agreeing to disagree.
02:00:11 We're having a very respectable discussion here.
02:00:14 - It's a healthy debate. - Healthy debate.
02:00:16 This might not be as healthy.
02:00:18 I saw a tweet that there was a dog that ran on the court
02:00:21 in a game in Chile.
02:00:24 Do you want that dog put down?
02:00:26 - No, I want the dog's owner put down.
02:00:28 - Okay, well, that's fair.
02:00:29 That's fair.
02:00:30 - Yeah, I mean, if you have,
02:00:32 like, I don't know if you saw that,
02:00:34 but somebody could have been bitten on the ankle
02:00:36 and injured very badly.
02:00:38 - Or yeah, or like Kyle Phil Palsky
02:00:40 could have gotten his tail wagging out my leg.
02:00:43 - I think you make, you know,
02:00:45 you guys making fun of this is really unseemly.
02:00:48 Like that Cujo type creature running out on the court,
02:00:52 putting everybody at risk.
02:00:53 - Yeah.
02:00:54 I would have tasered the dog and then euthanized the owner.
02:00:59 - And my dog probably saw this video and was like,
02:01:02 oh, I can run on a court now?
02:01:03 It sets a bad example.
02:01:04 - Yeah, exactly, exactly.
02:01:06 You're just encouraging bad pooch behavior.
02:01:09 - Yes, all right.
02:01:09 - And I would have clubbed that dog like a baby seal
02:01:12 and it all would have stopped.
02:01:14 (laughing)
02:01:15 - All right, so my last question, rollback question,
02:01:17 rhoback.com, use promo code TAKE,
02:01:19 20% off your first purchase, Q-Zips, polos, hoodies,
02:01:22 joggers, shorts, everything.
02:01:24 Rhoback.com.
02:01:26 This is a tough question and I'm putting you on the spot,
02:01:28 but can you give me your top three coaches
02:01:32 in college basketball right now?
02:01:33 Not from resume, not, oh, this guy won a title 20 years ago,
02:01:37 but in terms of what they're doing right now,
02:01:39 schematically and how they're coaching the game.
02:01:43 Do you have that?
02:01:45 - Yeah, Josh Schertz at Indiana State would be number one.
02:01:48 I don't know if you've watched that.
02:01:50 It's like watching a European pro team
02:01:53 that's been together for a long time.
02:01:54 It's just magnificent.
02:01:55 And he's a great example of a division two coach,
02:02:01 kind of like Bo Ryan was at Wisconsin Platteville,
02:02:04 kind of operating in near anonymity.
02:02:06 And while all these college assistants are getting jobs,
02:02:09 they're ignoring this.
02:02:12 I get it, it's difficult to identify all these guys,
02:02:14 but I would say Josh Schertz, number one,
02:02:16 Nate Oates at Alabama, I would put up there.
02:02:20 Nate is doing an amazing job at Alabama.
02:02:22 He's putting out a ton of NBA prospects,
02:02:24 but also the way they play, it's sort of analytics based.
02:02:28 And if you notice now, a lot of what they're doing,
02:02:30 they're catching the ball on the run.
02:02:33 So they're just not catching it,
02:02:34 getting triple threat position
02:02:35 like everybody coached years ago.
02:02:37 They're catching on the run.
02:02:38 They're really hard to guard when the ball moves.
02:02:40 Offensively, they're ridiculous.
02:02:42 And then I think Tommy Lloyd is doing that at Arizona.
02:02:47 And he was an assistant at Gonzaga for 20 years.
02:02:50 And one of the big reasons that Gonzaga
02:02:52 has been so successful all these years.
02:02:55 But off the top of my head, I would say those three,
02:02:57 that wouldn't be sort of the traditional,
02:02:59 Bill Self's resume or Tom Izzo's resume,
02:03:01 guys that are doing something different
02:03:04 that are elevating the game and kind of evolving it.
02:03:07 - That's a good answer, I like it.
02:03:08 - Great answer, Jay.
02:03:09 - Yeah. - Thank you for joining us.
02:03:10 - Yes. - It's been a good debate,
02:03:12 good discussion.
02:03:13 - Seriously though, Jay, I appreciate you joining us
02:03:15 because I think you probably knew
02:03:17 we would disagree at points.
02:03:18 And I do think it's lost in sports media
02:03:22 where people just scream at each other
02:03:23 and no one ever listens to each other.
02:03:25 And I'm happy you came on and explained your side.
02:03:28 And we found a little bit of common ground.
02:03:31 - Screaming at each other is not lost in media.
02:03:34 I don't know what you guys are watching.
02:03:35 - No, I'm saying it's lost.
02:03:37 I'm saying that that's all anyone does,
02:03:39 actually having a discussion.
02:03:40 - Oh, I see. - Yeah, yeah.
02:03:41 And talking about it and hearing someone else's side,
02:03:43 whether you agree or disagree, just talking about it,
02:03:46 that is lost.
02:03:48 - Yeah, I mean, and that's why I think we do agree.
02:03:51 Like I don't, you can like it, not like it.
02:03:55 I don't care.
02:03:56 I mean, I respect that fact.
02:03:59 I think my position was pretty clear,
02:04:02 but in today's world, people take it
02:04:04 and do other things with it.
02:04:05 And I'm good with that.
02:04:06 I'm not clapping back at people.
02:04:08 I don't really care.
02:04:09 They can take it and do what they want with it.
02:04:11 What I said was pretty clear.
02:04:13 So I don't have a problem with any of it.
02:04:14 I do have one problem though
02:04:16 with your use of agree to disagree.
02:04:19 I've never understood what that means.
02:04:21 Why can't we just disagree?
02:04:23 No, we don't have to agree to disagree.
02:04:25 - Because if you agree to disagree.
02:04:27 - I don't need an agreement.
02:04:28 - No, we did agree.
02:04:29 - I don't need an agreement to disagree.
02:04:29 - Oh, well now this is getting contentious again.
02:04:31 Now if you take away the agreement,
02:04:33 then we just disagree and we hate each other.
02:04:35 - I disagree to agree now.
02:04:37 - Yeah.
02:04:37 - I haven't signed any paper
02:04:40 that indicates an agreement to disagree.
02:04:43 - No, there was a little line that you missed
02:04:46 when you joined the Zoom that said that any--
02:04:48 - Oh, is that right?
02:04:49 - Yeah, any disagreements we agree
02:04:50 to disagree on at the end.
02:04:52 - Well, I'm glad we agreed to disagree.
02:04:54 - I don't--
02:04:55 - Oh, PFT said it back to me.
02:04:57 - No, I disagree--
02:04:58 - If we just disagreed, what would happen?
02:04:59 - I disagree to agree with you now.
02:05:01 And Jay, a little tip--
02:05:02 - Well, if we disagree, if we just disagree,
02:05:03 then it's on site.
02:05:04 If I see you, it's on site.
02:05:06 - I disagree to agree.
02:05:07 - Yeah, use that next time.
02:05:08 Also, if you just want to get your word out
02:05:10 to the unwashed masses,
02:05:11 if you want to get your point across,
02:05:12 you can just say, I think court storming is overrated.
02:05:16 And then you'll have a debate, overrated or underrated.
02:05:17 - Exactly, overrated or underrated.
02:05:20 - Yeah.
02:05:20 - And judging court storms and should they storm.
02:05:23 Was this a storm worthy game?
02:05:24 - Yeah, was this category five?
02:05:27 - Yeah.
02:05:28 - Where's it fall on the Fujita scale?
02:05:29 - I also don't, Jay, I also, 'cause you know,
02:05:31 now you did the agree to disagree thing.
02:05:33 I don't really like the fact that you're like,
02:05:35 Mr. Smarty Pants Duke guy who's just saying,
02:05:37 oh, that's not what that word means and all that stuff.
02:05:40 - Well, but disingenuous is calling somebody a liar.
02:05:43 - Well, not exactly.
02:05:44 I went and looked it up, it said slightly dishonest
02:05:46 and insincere, which I think I kinda nailed.
02:05:49 - Dishonest?
02:05:50 - Slightly, slightly dishonest and insincere.
02:05:53 Not, I didn't call you straight up liar.
02:05:56 - Okay, so I'm just a slightly dishonest person.
02:05:58 - I call you, you're, all right, listen,
02:05:59 you're a disingenuous with the Kansas thing.
02:06:01 You're an actual liar when you say
02:06:03 Kyle Filipowski was hurt.
02:06:05 That make sense?
02:06:07 - No.
02:06:07 (laughing)
02:06:09 - I actually think that big guy was paying you a compliment
02:06:11 when he called you disingenuous,
02:06:12 because he knows that you're smart enough
02:06:15 to understand the difference between Kansas fans
02:06:18 storming the court and maybe like a University of Rhode Island
02:06:21 knocking off a top 10 team at home.
02:06:23 - Thank you, P.F.
02:06:24 - And their fans storming the court.
02:06:25 You're too smart for that, Jay.
02:06:27 You're smart.
02:06:28 - No, I think what it meant is not only did you not know
02:06:29 what disingenuous means, but you had to look it up.
02:06:32 - No, well, you didn't.
02:06:34 - I actually knew what that meant when I was in high school.
02:06:36 - No, you actually still don't know.
02:06:38 - You didn't understand why I brought up Alan Fieldhouse.
02:06:41 - Oh, I did.
02:06:42 And it was disingenuous.
02:06:43 - No, you didn't.
02:06:44 - It was disingenuous.
02:06:46 All right, well, Jay Bills, thank you very much.
02:06:48 - Can you be ingenuous?
02:06:50 - Yeah, you can be ingenuous.
02:06:51 I think Einstein was ingenuous.
02:06:52 - Yeah, he was.
02:06:53 - Ingenious?
02:06:54 - Yeah.
02:06:55 - Oh, yeah, good point.
02:06:56 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:06:57 All right, yeah, okay, fine.
02:06:58 You read books and all that stuff.
02:07:00 That's fine.
02:07:00 (laughing)
02:07:01 All right, thank you so much, Jay.
02:07:02 We really do appreciate it.
02:07:03 We'll have you back on for March.
02:07:05 - Always a pleasure.
02:07:06 That was awesome.
02:07:07 - All right, see you, man.
02:07:08 - Take care, Jay.
02:07:09 (whooshing)
02:07:11 - Okay, let's wrap up the show with, pardon me, your take.
02:07:15 Listener submitted takes.
02:07:17 Henry, Henri, doing some reading.
02:07:22 - Just trying to find it.
02:07:23 - Read it up.
02:07:25 Go on and read.
02:07:26 Go on with your bad self.
02:07:27 Come on, read.
02:07:29 And ready, set, go read.
02:07:33 Come on, come on, come on.
02:07:37 - Come on.
02:07:38 - Come on, come on.
02:07:38 - What is the worst sports scandal
02:07:40 you would want to team, not me, them.
02:07:44 What is the worst sports scandal
02:07:47 you would want to team to experience
02:07:50 in exchange for winning a Super Bowl/championship?
02:07:52 - What?
02:07:53 - What is the worst sports scandal
02:07:54 that you would want your team--
02:07:55 - It's not a take, folks.
02:07:57 - To experience?
02:07:57 It's a good question.
02:07:58 It's a good thought starter.
02:08:00 Big Cat, would you exchange three Stanley Cups
02:08:05 for a really bad scandal about a trainer?
02:08:09 No, yeah, I would.
02:08:10 - Yeah, you would?
02:08:11 Having your superstar support the leader of a country
02:08:16 that is invading a sovereign nation
02:08:18 and slaughtering people.
02:08:19 I think I would take that for a Stanley Cup.
02:08:21 - What about a Super Bowl,
02:08:22 but then they found out that you videotaped it?
02:08:25 - No, so there's a line.
02:08:27 By the way, Peter King apologized.
02:08:30 He was interviewed today
02:08:30 and he said his biggest regret in his career
02:08:32 was how he handled the Flakegate.
02:08:33 - Wow.
02:08:34 That actually feels good, doesn't it?
02:08:36 - No, I mean, fuck them, but at least he's honest.
02:08:39 - What's the biggest scandal?
02:08:40 This is a weird question.
02:08:41 - One thing people don't talk about enough
02:08:43 is the fact that Robert Kraft had a Super Bowl ring stolen
02:08:46 by Vladimir Putin.
02:08:47 - Yeah, he did.
02:08:48 - When he visited him.
02:08:49 He showed him the ring.
02:08:50 - I don't think it's stolen.
02:08:51 - Well, here's what happened, okay?
02:08:52 'Cause I read about this the other day.
02:08:53 I read back on it 'cause I was like,
02:08:54 "Oh yeah, we don't talk about that anymore."
02:08:56 He was visiting Putin, showed him the ring.
02:09:00 Putin took the ring from him and just put it in his pocket.
02:09:03 And then Kraft was like, "What do I do now?"
02:09:05 Then they escort Robert Kraft out of the room.
02:09:07 He's like, "Fuck, Vladimir Putin has my ring."
02:09:09 He gets home and he starts talking about the story
02:09:12 and the White House or maybe the State Department
02:09:16 calls him up and they're like, "Hey, it'd be great for us
02:09:18 "if you could just say that it was a gift to Putin
02:09:20 "and stop telling everybody that it was stolen."
02:09:22 - Yeah.
02:09:23 - Putin took his ring.
02:09:24 - Yeah.
02:09:25 All right, so back to this question.
02:09:26 I think the big thing is you wouldn't want it
02:09:28 to be a scandal that puts in doubt, like,
02:09:30 Astro scandal bad.
02:09:32 - Yes.
02:09:33 - I don't know.
02:09:34 What's the worst?
02:09:36 - Patino.
02:09:37 - Yeah.
02:09:37 - I was just saying that is one that got
02:09:39 technically taken away.
02:09:41 - Yeah.
02:09:42 Big Cat, would you trade having allegations
02:09:44 that you filmed your Super Bowl opponent,
02:09:46 allegations that you filmed all your opponents--
02:09:48 - I mean, Super Bowl is an in-documentary.
02:09:48 - Allegations that you inflated a bunch of footballs.
02:09:50 - That's false.
02:09:51 - Allegations that you're tied in--
02:09:53 - Inflated footballs, all the reporters have come out
02:09:54 and apologized.
02:09:55 Biggest regret of Peter King's career.
02:09:56 - I'm not done yet.
02:09:57 Murdered three people.
02:09:58 - No.
02:09:59 I'm gonna say no.
02:10:00 - All these allegations.
02:10:01 - He never won a Super Bowl, so.
02:10:02 - I'm just curious if you would take these allegations.
02:10:06 - No, I think Max is right.
02:10:08 I think it's gotta be like a--
02:10:09 - Patino.
02:10:10 - One of the ones they take away,
02:10:11 college one they take away, who cares?
02:10:13 - Yeah.
02:10:14 - Who fucking cares?
02:10:15 - You know what would suck?
02:10:16 - Like Michigan was a perfect example this year.
02:10:17 'Cause that's like one that people will,
02:10:19 yeah, talk shit, and you'll be like,
02:10:20 I don't care, we won.
02:10:21 - You know what would suck?
02:10:22 If you won the World Series and your opponent
02:10:24 that you beat, it came out that eight of them
02:10:27 were gambling heavily to throw the World Series.
02:10:30 Like, we talk about the Black Sox,
02:10:31 who won that World Series?
02:10:33 - The Reds.
02:10:35 - Who did the Black Sox lose?
02:10:38 - Yeah, no one, 'cause all they think about is--
02:10:41 - Oh, it was the Reds.
02:10:42 - Yeah, there we go, Hank.
02:10:43 - Seamhead.
02:10:44 - I knew that.
02:10:45 - Yeah.
02:10:45 - What the fuck?
02:10:46 - Yeah, good job, Hank.
02:10:47 - Way to go.
02:10:48 - Hank remembers the Reds.
02:10:49 We should remember the Reds.
02:10:50 - You're a real Frank the Tank over there.
02:10:50 - That was crazy.
02:10:51 - The 1919 World Series, Hank just walking around
02:10:54 with that information.
02:10:55 - Nice.
02:10:55 - Hello, Big Kitty, PFT, Bonk and Honk,
02:11:01 Cake Marsh and Two Soda Boy, and of course, Pug.
02:11:06 Pug.
02:11:07 - Wow, memes, no love.
02:11:08 - Someone, this is a good idea,
02:11:10 I don't know where I saw it, but we should make a shirt,
02:11:14 like maybe part of my take on the front,
02:11:16 and then the number's 99 with Pug as the name.
02:11:19 - I think it should just be--
02:11:21 - Just 99 or 99.
02:11:22 - 99 Pug in the front, nothing on the back.
02:11:25 Just 99 Pug.
02:11:26 - 99 Pug is actually a good name for a brand.
02:11:29 - Yeah.
02:11:29 - Like, you could wear that, and if you know
02:11:31 that it's part of my take, you get it,
02:11:32 and if you don't, it's just cool.
02:11:34 - All right, we got 99 Pug merch coming.
02:11:36 - I have the take that Korean barbecue places
02:11:40 are the worst concept of a restaurant ever made,
02:11:42 and I'm so confused how nobody else agrees
02:11:44 and wants to know y'all stance.
02:11:45 - Idiot.
02:11:46 - In my opinion, you go to a restaurant
02:11:47 for other people to cook your food,
02:11:48 because I'm too lazy to do it myself,
02:11:50 but Korean barbecue method goes against all these standards
02:11:53 and forces you to pay to cook your own meat.
02:11:55 I get it's supposed to be a social experience,
02:11:58 but I find the whole thing to just be another form
02:11:59 of manual labor, and even worse,
02:12:01 that I'm paying others to do the work.
02:12:03 So now, many of my friends want to have celebrations
02:12:05 at these Korean barbecue places,
02:12:07 and I am forced to miss out on birthday dinners
02:12:09 because I refuse to equivocate my opinion on the matter.
02:12:14 Please help me call a big Korean barbecue
02:12:16 when it actually is.
02:12:16 - No, no.
02:12:17 Here's the problem, that they're missing.
02:12:20 'Cause I've heard this take before.
02:12:22 Why would I go, cook my own food,
02:12:24 I cook my own food at home.
02:12:25 Dishes.
02:12:26 Dishes.
02:12:27 You don't have to do the dishes.
02:12:29 - Wagyu.
02:12:29 - The dishes is what the,
02:12:31 the worst part about cooking at home is the dishes.
02:12:33 - What do you mean Wagyu?
02:12:34 - I think the best meal I've ever had in--
02:12:38 - BFT got a little upset.
02:12:39 - Well, I didn't understand what you were saying.
02:12:40 - What do you mean by Wagyu?
02:12:42 No, no, no, finish that thought, Wagyu.
02:12:44 - It was a fancy ass, like, super, super nice
02:12:47 New York Korean barbecue place.
02:12:48 So obviously, nice restaurants, doesn't matter what it is.
02:12:50 The food's always really good.
02:12:52 But it was, I think, the best meal I've ever had.
02:12:53 - It's incredible.
02:12:54 - And it was Wagyu melt in your mouth.
02:12:56 - I wouldn't want to go every day, but it's awesome.
02:12:57 - That's why I think Korean barbecue,
02:12:59 I think Wagyu melt in your mouth.
02:13:00 - Why were you upset about Wagyu?
02:13:01 - I just didn't know where he was going with that.
02:13:02 - Isn't that the whole point?
02:13:03 They do like meat that you just have to cook for a second?
02:13:05 - You can get Wagyu like anywhere now.
02:13:07 Wagyu's all over the place.
02:13:08 - Yeah, but not Wagyu you cook yourself.
02:13:10 - Yes, true.
02:13:11 - Touch it down, touch it down.
02:13:12 - Dishes is the big thing.
02:13:13 - Not in your mouth.
02:13:14 - Dishes is big, and also the sides are fantastic.
02:13:16 And it's a social experience.
02:13:18 - Right.
02:13:18 - You're cooking the food, you're talking about the food.
02:13:20 Everyone at the table's like, "Oh, flip it over now."
02:13:22 Okay, he gets other conversations going.
02:13:24 It's a fun place to go.
02:13:26 A lot of protein, good place to go
02:13:27 if you're on a high protein, low carb diet.
02:13:30 - This guy, I'll say this right now,
02:13:33 you're gonna wake up one day, 10 years from now,
02:13:35 you'll be like, "Man, that was really stupid
02:13:37 "that I was that passionate about Korean barbecue
02:13:39 "that's very fun to do
02:13:40 "and a fun thing to do with your friends."
02:13:41 Again, not every night.
02:13:42 If someone said, "Hey, let's go to Korean barbecue
02:13:44 "every night," I'd be like, "No, I don't wanna cook
02:13:47 "every night," but it is fun to do.
02:13:49 - It's very fun.
02:13:50 - Wagyu.
02:13:51 - Wagyu.
02:13:52 - Wagyu.
02:13:53 - Dishes, you don't have to do the dishes.
02:13:53 Just think about how you don't have to do the dishes
02:13:55 and it will change everything in your brain.
02:13:58 - Also, every time you go to a Korean barbecue place,
02:14:00 it's such a big crap shoot on what you're ordering
02:14:02 and how much it is.
02:14:03 - Get the Wagyu.
02:14:04 - Get the Wagyu.
02:14:05 - All right, last one.
02:14:07 Some of these aren't takes.
02:14:10 We need takes, folks.
02:14:11 Bring some takes.
02:14:13 This is a good one.
02:14:14 The playing games for March Madness,
02:14:15 oh, it's not really.
02:14:16 The playing games, I don't wanna spoil it.
02:14:18 - Okay, all right.
02:14:18 - I don't wanna spoil it.
02:14:19 - The steak sucks, buddy.
02:14:20 - No spoilers.
02:14:22 The playing game for March Madness
02:14:24 should be immediately after the bracket drops
02:14:25 on selection Sunday.
02:14:26 Should be all the potential 11 seeds show up
02:14:29 to play at a neutral site.
02:14:30 - I love it.
02:14:30 - And some get to play in,
02:14:31 some don't make it to the tournament and go home.
02:14:32 - I love it.
02:14:33 - Games tip off 50 minutes after they've
02:14:35 burned their opponent. - I love it.
02:14:36 - 16 seeds get auto-bid into tournament
02:14:38 and don't play in playing game.
02:14:40 We would know the bracket right away
02:14:41 rather than having one day in between playing games
02:14:43 and the actual tournament.
02:14:44 - I love it.
02:14:45 - That's a fantastic idea.
02:14:46 - But it's actually, you can do this idea
02:14:48 and not take away from the 68.
02:14:51 It should just be the bubble.
02:14:53 Like the last four bubble should have to play
02:14:56 on Sunday night and then they get to play
02:14:57 in the playing game.
02:14:58 So like, 'cause you wouldn't have been
02:14:59 in the tournament anyway, it's a bonus game.
02:15:02 That would be great 'cause then you don't have
02:15:03 to complain about the bubble.
02:15:05 Although the bubble, complaining about the bubble
02:15:06 is very fun.
02:15:07 But here's the thing about the bubble.
02:15:09 We always complain about it going up to it.
02:15:11 And the minute the bracket's out,
02:15:13 no one gives a fuck who didn't make the tournament.
02:15:15 - No, well you get the residual,
02:15:17 like the clips of the teams that are disappointed
02:15:19 they didn't make.
02:15:20 - But there's like a very short shelf life
02:15:22 because everyone just wants to see the bracket.
02:15:24 They wanna put the bracket in their hands,
02:15:25 they wanna fill out the bracket.
02:15:26 Like, oh Clemson didn't make it?
02:15:28 They get maybe like two minutes from someone
02:15:31 on the desk being like Clemson should have been in.
02:15:33 Okay, who cares, bracket.
02:15:34 - I like the idea of the bubble tournament.
02:15:36 That's a very good idea.
02:15:37 And you have it in a bubble somewhere
02:15:39 and you're ready to go.
02:15:40 And do you make the team stick around to watch
02:15:42 that aren't playing in it?
02:15:43 So if there's every team that's like a possibility
02:15:47 to get that seed and they announce which four teams
02:15:50 it's gonna be in that tournament,
02:15:52 do you make the other team stick around
02:15:53 and watch the other teams play
02:15:56 for the right to go to the tournament?
02:15:57 - Wait, so the teams that didn't get in have to sit down?
02:15:59 - So how many teams is this guy saying
02:16:02 are on the bubble during this announcement?
02:16:03 - I think it's--
02:16:04 - They have to fly all of them.
02:16:05 - I think it's two games.
02:16:07 - No, no, you're right.
02:16:08 It's two games but you have to fly all the teams there
02:16:10 for the announcement.
02:16:11 - Yeah.
02:16:12 - And then those teams have to be ready to go
02:16:14 and they go play.
02:16:15 - Yeah, I think you have eight teams there,
02:16:19 four teams make the game.
02:16:21 So then the other four, womp womp.
02:16:24 And they have to take a bus back.
02:16:26 - Yeah.
02:16:26 - No matter where.
02:16:27 - I like that.
02:16:29 - And Frank the Tank drives.
02:16:30 - But if there's a dunk contest
02:16:31 and then that gives your team the right
02:16:33 to go to the tournament.
02:16:35 - Okay, I like it.
02:16:36 - Okay.
02:16:37 - This is a good one, that's a good take.
02:16:38 I like that 'cause instant games would be great.
02:16:40 - Yeah.
02:16:41 - And it doesn't screw up your bracket
02:16:42 because you could do the same thing
02:16:43 where you'll find out right after the game
02:16:46 who's now in the play-in game.
02:16:48 So it's like bonus games.
02:16:50 I like that idea.
02:16:51 - A lot.
02:16:52 I also think they should play the NIT.
02:16:55 I think they should rebrand the NIT
02:16:59 and they should play it at like 8 a.m.
02:17:01 on Thursday and Friday.
02:17:02 Appetizers.
02:17:04 - As appetizers?
02:17:04 - Yeah, yeah, just ease us into some games.
02:17:07 - Yeah.
02:17:07 - It's like two games at like eight o'clock
02:17:08 that you could just be like,
02:17:09 you know what, I'm just gonna get my feet wet.
02:17:11 - How many different tournaments are there now?
02:17:12 There's the NIT, NCAA.
02:17:14 - There's only three now, CIT is done.
02:17:16 - Oh.
02:17:17 - We have the CBI.
02:17:18 - CBI.
02:17:19 - CIT is done?
02:17:19 - But like the NJIT or something.
02:17:21 - That's the golden pineapple trophy.
02:17:23 - That's the name of a team, Hank.
02:17:25 The Highlanders.
02:17:26 - I always had a soft spot for CIT and CBI
02:17:29 because it's the whole reason,
02:17:31 I'm like part of the reason why I'm here at Barstool
02:17:33 and not, didn't fail out of business school
02:17:35 was I paid way too much money for a GMAT class
02:17:39 and I was sitting in the GMAT class
02:17:40 and I was sitting in the back watching,
02:17:42 I think it was Oregon State in a CIT game on my phone,
02:17:45 not a smartphone, a flip phone, checking the score.
02:17:48 And I was like, why am I going to business school?
02:17:50 I just want to gamble.
02:17:51 - This is, you learn more from that business class
02:17:54 than anybody else though.
02:17:55 - Yeah, I used to drive by this place all the time.
02:17:56 - The CIT ended in 2019.
02:17:58 - Oh.
02:17:59 - COVID shut it down for 2021.
02:18:01 It was relaunched and rebranded as the Basketball Classic
02:18:04 in 2022 and it lasted a year.
02:18:06 - We should really, we should try to do a tournament here
02:18:10 where it's like, we're not even,
02:18:12 it'd be great if we did a tournament here
02:18:13 where we're like, we're not going to broadcast it,
02:18:16 we're not going to do anything,
02:18:17 we just want to gamble a little,
02:18:18 so just like show up or don't.
02:18:20 - A private underground.
02:18:22 - Yeah, show up or don't, we don't care.
02:18:24 - Just cockfighting at halftime.
02:18:26 - Yeah, winner gets to use the golf simulator.
02:18:28 - I like that.
02:18:29 - Yeah, okay.
02:18:30 Numbers,
02:18:34 eight,
02:18:35 40.
02:18:36 - 18.
02:18:38 - Three.
02:18:39 - 77.
02:18:40 - 99.
02:18:41 - Actually 88 for Patrick Kane, 88.
02:18:43 - No, no, no.
02:18:43 - This will suck if I get 77, fuck.
02:18:45 - 21.
02:18:46 - I didn't even put myself in the spot.
02:18:47 - Max, do I do 77 or 88?
02:18:50 - I'm not answering that.
02:18:51 - No, come on, Max.
02:18:53 - Pug says 77.
02:18:54 - Max, 77 or 88?
02:18:55 - Pug said 77.
02:18:56 - Max, 77 or 88?
02:18:58 - 77, Pug.
02:19:00 - All right, I'm going 77, Max said it.
02:19:02 - I'll take 88.
02:19:03 - Oh no, you dirty, dirty person.
02:19:05 46.
02:19:13 Wait, wait.
02:19:16 46, 46, 46.
02:19:18 - Love you guys.
02:19:20 (whooshing)
02:19:22 (whooshing)
02:19:24 (whooshing)
02:19:27 (whooshing)
02:19:29 (whooshing)
02:19:31 (whooshing)
02:19:34 (whooshing)
