00:00 Day 3 of hitchhiking from Southampton to South Africa.
00:04 Today started off in Worthing, where after a nutritious breakfast I started hitchhiking towards Dover.
00:09 I waited for about half an hour, before someone pulled over and took me to a petrol station a bit further up the road.
00:14 Here I got picked up by a Polish woman.
00:16 Her steering wheel was on the wrong side, but she took me all the way to Hastings.
00:19 And from there I got two more rides and ended up in a little town named Rye.
00:23 The second I arrived there it started pouring down, and I ended up sheltering in a public bathroom for about 2 hours.
00:29 After that I continued hitchhiking, and within a minute I got picked up by a Lithuanian dude.
00:33 He was on his way home to Ashford, but decided to drive an extra 20 miles down the road to Dover, where he dropped me off at my hostel.
00:39 There's nobody else here, and it feels kinda spooky, but it'll do for tonight.
00:43 Day 8 of hitchhiking from Southampton to South Africa.
00:47 And today I'm hanging out in Brussels with my mate Hugo.
00:50 We hadn't seen each other in 2 and a half years, so it was great catching up with him again.
00:55 Now of course it rained again today, so we couldn't really do much outside.
00:58 We first visited the European Parliament, which, unfortunately, was quite boring.
01:03 Then had a quick lunch, took shelter inside a church, and then visited Menon Capis and Janne Capis.
01:08 For dinner we had some Indian food, and after that I absolutely annihilated Hugo in a game of pool.
01:13 As the day came to an end, it was time for my friend to head back home.
01:16 I appreciate him coming out to see me, even if it was just for a day.
01:20 And we'll have a proper catch up once I make it home from South Africa.
01:25 Day 9 of hitchhiking from Southampton to South Africa.
01:28 Today's mission is to hitchhike more than 300 kilometers from Brussels to Paris.
01:32 And to start the day off, I first had to walk an hour and a half, just to get to the highway.
01:37 On my way there I managed to find some cardboard, and drew myself this absolutely massive sign.
01:42 It might not be the prettiest, but it did the job.
01:44 And once I got to the highway, it wasn't too long before I got my first ride.
01:48 I started with a couple of short rides, all taking me from one petrol station to the next.
01:52 Until eventually someone dropped me off at the border between Belgium and France.
01:56 There were loads of border officers there,
01:58 but luckily they didn't seem to mind me hitchhiking right behind their checkpoint.
02:01 And after about half an hour of waiting, I got picked up by a trucker going to the outskirts of Paris.
02:06 He told me God sent him down to help me, and he blessed the rest of my journey.
02:10 It definitely worked, because seconds after he dropped me off,
02:12 I got picked up by an Algerian guy on his way to the dentist in Paris.
02:16 And as it turned out, his dentist was literally right around the corner from my hostel.
02:20 And just like that, I made it to Paris.
