00:03 Sweden's engagement for human rights and sustainability
00:09 stand fast.
00:10 The importance of childhood and education getting there
00:14 can hardly be overstated.
00:17 We're very grateful for having been
00:18 able to work together with all our friends and partners
00:22 here in Malaysia on these issues and launch today's project.
00:29 I want to thank your royal highness for your patronage,
00:34 the Selangor Library and the MBBY for your cooperation,
00:40 as well as the distinguished people who
00:42 will be participating in the program over the course
00:45 of today and in the coming week.
00:49 Finally, with all of you in the audience
00:51 who will be listening and transmitting new knowledge,
00:54 also a warm recognition.
00:58 And with that, I'd like to declare the exhibition
01:01 John Kitabinsan open.
01:04 It stands here in the corner and is a window
01:10 into a Swedish living space filled with books.
01:15 We have the three translated books into Malay
01:19 and then plenty of literature also in English.
01:23 You can--
01:24 [APPLAUSE]
01:28 Through early and sustained exposure
01:32 to the greatness of our nature and of our diverse society,
01:35 we can build norms that will guide them.
01:39 By promoting and enabling intellectual curiosity
01:42 and respectful bonds between people,
01:46 we enable the innovation and cooperation
01:49 they will need to succeed.
01:52 How can we do this?
01:54 Through literature.
01:56 Children's book can transmit knowledge, but also feelings.
02:02 In that way, it serves as a unique language,
02:05 allowing the exchange of ideas over borders on equal terms.
02:10 They focus on the core of the issue.
02:13 When you're talking to children, you
02:14 can hide behind excuses, technocratic details,
02:18 attitudes.
02:20 In this way, children's literature
02:23 spurs open, active, and unpretentious discussion.
02:28 Also between adults, as we are doing today, bintan.
02:34 I like that word.
02:36 Very good notes, open, eye to eye, and frank discussion
02:41 on what we want to see changed.
02:44 The importance of such dialogue can hardly be overstated.
02:49 This is why I support this project.
02:53 I want to thank the Swedish embassy for the initiative.
02:58 Fostering strong culture and educational ties
03:01 between our nations would be beneficial for all.
03:05 I encourage everyone here in your capacities
03:08 as stakeholders, media, educators, and parents
03:13 to continue your engagement for sustainability, health,
03:16 and social rights.
03:19 Overcoming our present and future challenges
03:22 will require active and open discussion.
03:25 It will require curiosity, determination,
03:29 and a deeply rooted sense of value we are striving towards.
03:33 I'm glad that we can gather here today
03:35 to discuss the role of children's literature in this,
03:39 giving our youth the ability and optimism they will need.
