00:00 As Perth swelted through its third heat wave this month, families found reprieve any way
00:08 they could, from suburban park sprinklers to the full glare of the sun at the beach.
00:13 I'm training for rotto so it's actually quite nice being in the water but it's a bit of
00:16 a scorcher if you're out of the pool.
00:18 It's really hot, yeah, just beach, lots of beach.
00:21 Lots of sunscreen, lots of water.
00:23 You've just got to get the right formula and that includes beach, water and shade.
00:29 The maximum set a new record for the city, taking the total number of days over 40 degrees
00:34 to five.
00:35 But with two more 40 plus degree days on the forecast, Perth could almost double its old
00:40 record.
00:41 We'll believe it will get to seven 40s in February at this stage, but it certainly is
00:45 possible that we might see another one before February's over and summer ends officially.
00:49 The record-breaking heat is being driven by an unusual series of troughs forming down
00:54 the west coast immediately one after another.
00:57 While summer hasn't ended yet, there's more hot weather on the horizon.
01:01 Under a changing climate we do tend to see it warmer each year which is not all that
01:05 unusual, but at this stage it does look like it'll be warmer right through that autumn
01:10 period.
01:11 Meaning these Perth beaches will be staying busy.
