00:00 In a final plea to the jury, Kirtley Beale watched his barrister unleash on his accuser,
00:08 with Margaret Caneen SC calling the woman a "very good actress".
00:12 Mr Beale is facing a jury trial after pleading not guilty to sexual intercourse without consent
00:18 and two counts of sexual touching.
00:20 The complainant alleges the former Wallaby groped her buttocks in a Bondi pub in 2022
00:26 and forced her to perform oral sex in a toilet cubicle.
00:30 But the 35-year-old's lawyer argues the sexual act inside the cubicle was consensual, saying
00:36 the woman lied about being assaulted.
00:39 I don't shrink from suggesting that the complainant is a manipulative woman who curated the circumstance
00:45 of the night to turn herself into a victim.
00:49 The woman previously told the trial that Mr Beale had followed her into the men's toilet.
00:54 His lawyer says CCTV shows that the opposite occurred.
00:58 If it was the old days or the CCTV hadn't been working, we would probably have set in
01:03 stone the false account that he followed her into the toilets.
01:08 Prosecutor Geoff Tunks argued that a recorded phone call between Mr Beale and the woman
01:13 suggested that the former Wallaby had a guilty conscience.
01:17 He argued that when Mr Beale was presented with the allegations by the woman, he apologised
01:23 and made direct admissions to specific acts.
01:26 Mr Beale's lawyer says her client's guilty conscience is due to his infidelity and has
01:31 nothing to do with accusations he committed a serious criminal offence.
01:36 The trial continues.
