00:00 More than 300 London Overground workers will take strike action over the next month over
00:06 pay the RMT union has announced. Security, station, revenue and control staff will walk
00:14 out for 48 hours on February 19th and March 4th.
00:20 Arriva Rail London, which has the contract to run London Overground, has offered a below
00:26 inflation pay offer and members voted for action, an RMT spokesman confirmed.
00:32 General Secretary Mick Lynch said that the London Overground workers do an important
00:37 job delivering services for TfL and supporting passengers on journeys throughout London.
00:43 He continued that members are furious that they have been given a below inflation pay
00:47 offer and want to see an improvement that represents the value they bring to the company.
00:54 Steve Best, Managing Director at Arriva Rail, said that they are hugely disappointed to
00:59 hear the RMT union's decision to stage industrial action on the London Overground in February
01:06 and March. But how will this industrial action impact Londoners that use the Overground?
01:11 "Yeah, I know, definitely. I mean, London Overground at the moment for Crystal Palace
01:16 is one of the options apart from the train. So if there is a rail strike and there is
01:21 no Overground available then I'll be struggling to get to work central London, isn't it? So
01:27 yeah, it does make a huge difference if we don't have the public transportation, especially
01:31 in an area that we're already limited and we don't have a lot of options. So yeah, going
01:36 to work is going to be challenging. So I'll probably be working from home then."
01:39 "It won't affect me particularly too much because I don't have a structured routine
01:44 where I need to get into certain places. But I certainly support strikes. It's happened
01:48 to me a few times where I've been inconvenienced. But you either stand, believe in a cause or
01:53 you don't. So in other words, it is frustrating. But sometimes there's a bigger goal or something
01:59 that's more important. So I'm quite happy to tough it out because it's not really that
02:03 hard really. It's just you can adapt as buses or I feel sorry for some people, but it's
02:08 just life. You have to suck it up."
