00:00 Tech CEO Sanjay Shah dies in a freak accident at his company's anniversary party in India.
00:06 According to CBS affiliate WBBM-TV and The Times of India,
00:11 Shah, a Chicago-area tech executive, was marking the silver jubilee of his software company Vistex,
00:17 along with company president Raju Dhatla, on January 18.
00:22 Per Fox Business and WBBM-TV, both men were inside a suspended cage above the stage
00:28 when the chain holding the cage broke on one side, causing both men to fall 15 feet.
00:34 A police official tells The Times of India,
00:36 "At the time of the accident, music was being played,
00:39 and Shah and Raju were waving to their staff while being lowered."
00:43 According to a CBS affiliate in India, 700 people were in attendance at the event.
00:49 The New York Post reports that Shah died at a hospital following the terrifying incident,
00:53 while Dhatla, who sustained a severe head injury, remains in critical condition.
00:58 Per the outlet, officials are now investigating the accident,
01:01 which occurred during Vistex Asia's 25th anniversary celebration,
01:05 being held over two days at the famous Ramoji Film City.
01:09 E! News has reached out to Vistex for comment and has yet to hear back.
